So part of the Biden economic recovery plan passed in 2021 was the Affordable Connectivity Program.

ACP was intended to help bridge the digital divide and offered low income people monthly discounts on internet service ($30 standard, $75 for those on Tribal lands).

The bill included what at the time was believed to be enough funding for five years, but, due to more widespread enrollment in the program than expected, it will run out of money in approximately 90 days unless Congress passes an extension.

And your friendly neighborhood Republicans are doing all they can to make sure that doesnโ€™t happen. They think ACP is a failure because a decent portion of enrollees already had internet service beforehand and the program did not achieve its goal of connecting the unconnected.

So millions of people will start paying more for Internet in April unless something changes. The FCC is suspending new enrollments in about a week.
