You know, the coercive force that’s the reason that a tiny number of national operators could play proxy war games on the rest of the world?

Like, the actual lesson of the Cold War is that nuclear weapons threaten simply by existing, by being the bottom floor of what is possible in any international crisis. They’re terror weapons and always have been: either using them is an atrocity or the user has adopted an understanding of total war so broad that atrocity does not exist.

I’m not surprised that people are individually, or collectively, terrified.

Being scared is no excuse for objectively stupid thinking that can only increase the risk.
