I picture the Judge and his cronies after Roy Hobbs hits the final home run in The Natural.

Aw, man, I so wanted to like that movie, but I had read Malamud’s novel at least twice before then, and it’s one of the classics, one that any baseball fan or for that matter any American should experience. In it, at that critical moment, Hobbs “struck out with a roar.” I just couldn’t stand the saccharine heroic happy twist Hollywood had to stick on the ending.
