I have never figured out why the religious right is so scared. I’m an atheist myself and I’m not unduly scared about life in general. It seems to me that if you really believe God is looking after you, you should be even more confident.

Most of them have had it beat into them by twisted self hating uptight fucked in the head stone cold black hearted soul less cretins. It is written.

What was the spark if you don’t mind me asking?

The civil war in Iraq and Katrina. Fucking Hurricane Katrina.

I saw Shep Smith on a freeway overpass against a mustard colored sky and there was a dead body wrapped in cloth left there.

I lost it. I was crying and it was rage and disbelief and horror. This was America and refugees were fleeing and leaving the dead behind on bridges and we were watching it while Bush did nothing…

I picture the Judge and his cronies after Roy Hobbs hits the final home run in The Natural.

Aw, man, I so wanted to like that movie, but I had read Malamud’s novel at least twice before then, and it’s one of the classics, one that any baseball fan or for that matter any American should experience. In it, at that critical moment, Hobbs “struck out with a roar.” I just couldn’t stand the saccharine heroic happy twist Hollywood had to stick on the ending.

Trump? ME ME ME ME ME ME…

Perhaps my memory is flawed. However, coming out of Carters days, the thing about Reagan was his optimism, and the dire predictions of his worst critics.

Today feels the same but with the parties switched. The Democrats and their candidate are the party of optimism, hope and a sense of a greater America. They reject the right and the far left in the same breath. Trump just rejects all sense and sensibility.

A lot of people think they’re being cute that they can say that they too have parents of modest means and cut Hillary down. Right wing women too.

They don’t get it. This is more than just Hillary giving her recitation of her cv. This is letting girls know that they too can grow up from Peoria to Prudhoe Bay, and be on the doorstop of being President of the US.

That’s something that until now no other woman had even been close to doing. Others have run, but no one got more than a handful of delegates. Third party runs and minor party candidates have tried, but gotten little more than an asterisk in national elections.

In just about 100 days, Hillary Clinton can receive word that she has won the popular vote and the Electoral College vote, making her Madame President Elect.

That’s huge.

And she’ll be the first - and definitely not the last.

I kind of agree with Brian. I absolutely see his viewpoint is not received well here on that specific issue, but Hillary has tried her hardest to unify the group, and there is just a subset that wants to Bern everything. She might have been better off kinda edging them off, their concerns were already in the DNC platform anyway. I trust her, and her support staff, and I am not concerned, just…Obama had to hit a point where he gave no fucks to overcome his opposition, and at this point, Hillary could do the same for the Busters.

Hillary is a woman. They nurture. They protect.

She wants to do that for the Berners too.

Thank you. In many ways we do agree. HRC wants to build on points of agreement, like us in our kindly corner here. Donald just wants a fight built on lies and fear and anger. Bereft of decency or hope. There is a phrase family will use for someone in the family who really turns bad. Maybe a killer or a rapist. They will say he is dead to them. When I first registered to vote, an impossibly long time ago, I was in a place where to make your vote mean much you had to be a Democrat, so I registered that way. It was pleasant that I also mainly agreed with them. I now live in a place where a Democratic vote is almost always just pissing against a hurricane of hateful shit, but I never saw any reason to change. And I’ve never been prouder of my party than tonight.

I’ve been a Democrat a long time, and I’ve never seen a convention like this. Trump is a weakness that was exploited relentlessly tonight and yesterday in particular, and absolutely contributed to what we saw.

And I wasn’t trying to minimize how spectacular this week has been compared to other conventions. It is great when the other side just hands it to you on a silver platter. :)

re: #502 kirkspencer

Sorry for the confusion, I was actually listening to the speech, I don’t think your point counters mine. Obama is absolutely the President of all people, and he had to learn to do for them even against what they perceived to be their best interests. Hillary will be better for the Busters (the people protesting all the wrong things at the wrong time), I was saying she could not worry about navigating to scoop up that fringe. It didnt seem to me that Brian was saying anything fundamentally different than ‘Haters gon hate, you do you’. That doesn’t make her any less of a nurturer, right?

I’ve been discussing the convention with my 89 year old grandmother. I finally get why she was so excited for Hillary eight years ago. I mean I preferred Obama but I thought she was being pigheaded by ignoring the good things about Obama. Truth is, we just had two different perspectives on how to get to the same place in the road.

I saw what Garry Kasparov said in the tweet above, and it’s like, “but she’s not running against Putin, she’s running against Trump. Plus this is something she or her surrogates will deal with.”

I pulled out my plastic and gave money to the Clinton campaign, then checked to see how much money I can give to the campaign directly, and am thinking of raiding my savings. Because the short-fingered vulgarian CANNOT become president.

Because flag pins are what we use to determine how much someone loves our country. And lol at the dingus who thought the Hebrew was Arabic. Probably harasses Israelis thinking they’re Arab.

Like Obama’s presidency, the country will now divide between those thatare willing to correct their comments and actions around Clinton women and those that won’t.

Edited.

I just re-watched Babylon 5 over the past couple of months.

Too many of the cast are gone: Andreas Katsulas, Richard Biggs, Michael O’Hare, Jeff Conaway, and now Jerry Doyle have gone beyond the Rim…

I still love that the NC GOP attempt to school Kaine on wearing a Honduras pin that was actually a USMC parent pin. Oopise guys! Maybe you’re not as patriotic as you think1

I signed in to FB tonight to drop a comment about how thrilled I was about convention week. My youngest sister was a Bernie person who didn’t think Hillary being the first female candidate was anything for her or her 10 year old daughter to find even remotely interesting. I’m not sure how over it she is yet, but I don’t feel like talking to a debbie downer right now.

I don’t blame you. My brother was in the same boat. I do want to make the point to him that this does mean something for his daughter. I really think he’s someone who could benefit from seeign waht Clinton’s actually done. He hasn’t had time for the convention due to his job hours.

I’ve dealt with many *many* dogs being skunked. The rumor is true, tomato juice.

The animal’s disposition when getting slathered in tomato juice, that’s another story.

Ask your local barkeeper for some Timsen. A lot of bars use Timsen solution as a drink glass rinse.

It’s what I used on my dog when she got skunked. .

It’s also a food safe *bactericide* & deodorant used to clean dairy milking equipment.

Effective on cat urine as well.

Here’s one URL:

cleanxsolutions.com
TIMSEN(r) products are a multi-use germicidal disinfectant, sanitizer and true deodorant. - TIMSEN(r) is Effective against the HIV-1 (Aids Virus) on environmental …

Your local veterinary supply house should have it in stock.
