May I play devil’s advocate. If it is so practical why don’t any of the other western countries with single payer or some other form of universal coverage offer coverage for undocumented immigrants? In Canada even if you migrate legally with a preexisting condition they are likely to deny you access to the national healthcare if the cost for your care is going to be more than $20000 a year.
The question is whether undocumented workers can purchase health insurance. Given how this country has long relied on these workers to pick our crops, care for the elderly and disabled and children, provide housekeeping services, maintain our lawns, work in our restaurants, etc, it seems unfair not to allow them to purchase the same insurance that should be available to our citizens.
