there is no logical reason why someone born with a cleft palette cannot also be an idiot. Maybe God thought, “This kid is gonna be an idiot. Better give him a cleft palette so he has a ready excuse for that.”

That’s true, but he usually gets dragged as an idiot for his speech patterns, which he really has no control over.
