Every school year, my kids bring home poem books. This is one of my daughters poems:

I Don’t Understand

I don’t understand why people are so mean to animals.
I don’t understand why the earth is turning and we aren’t,
I don’t understand why some boys judge girls from there outside, not there inside.
I don’t understand why we can’t light a fire in space.

But most of all I don’t understand why some people are homeless.

What I understand most is why we have to go to school.
