re: #300 Kragar (Proud to be Kafir)

She’s in third grade, but many of her skills are at early or mid 2d grade level. She gets frustrated and has problems paying attention. She’ll do the work fine one time, then the next day, she’ll forget how to do it until she is shown. She also inverts numbers and letters as she is writing. We’re waiting to hear back from the school psychologist and also seeing what kind of help my work benefits can give us.

The inversion is a very classic sign of dyslexia (forget I said that, the one thing they tell you from day one is that you aren’t qualified to diagnose). I would do some extensive testing, and see what the school can suggest.

Main thing to remember with an IEP is that it’s only as good as the people using it. If it just sits in a file, it’s not much good to anyone, at least until college. It should be something that makes the kid’s life easier, not harder.
