Didn’t (doesn’t) matter. In that it happened, people took the necessary precautions for their children, THE most important job as a parent. If the “tradition” could be replaced as I described (church/ school trunk or treats, etc) and the kids have a great time, why not?

Because it is fear based social engineering masquerading as a public safety crisis that does not exist? Putting “tradition” in quotation marks doesn’t make it less of one.
