I’m always struck by how comedians in the 70’s and 80’s were able to have a more honest discourse on race. Look at Eddie Murphy on SNL with Mr Robinson’s Neighbourhood, or the famous Richard Pryor/Chevy Chase sketch where a racist white employer gives a black applicant a word association test.
Those skits were all bitingly funny and offered real social criticisms, and many of them couldn’t be made now.
