The -ist universe of news sites is essential to knowing what’s going on in many major metro areas. I rely on gothamist quite a bit to know what’s happening in NYC. It’s powered by wnyc.org. If that goes… so goes another local news outlet, when the NYT is already abdicating their local news, and the Daily News and NY Post are almost always facing bankruptcy.
