Following more on the Catherine Herridge story. Now CBS says they never withheld her materials and is simply waiting for her lawyers to come by and pick it up.

I wonder if they let the FBI have a look in the meantime. Is the Smernov business now revealing MSM reporters working for Russia? Her firing was out of the blue.

It would be irresponsible not to speculate.

actually, now that I think about it, (I’m just going to pretend the last thread never ended), I haven’t put thin sliced pork on toast with gravy over it in 40 years, and I don’t think it’s because I decided there was anything wrong with that. Toast is one of the food groups, right? Carbohydrates, maybe?

I’ve been resigned to a Biden re-election campaign since the midterms. That would have been the time for him to announce he wasn’t seeking re-election. At this point, he’s the nominee and those of us who might prefer someone else are just going to have to accept that he’s the least bad choice in this election. Because the only way it’s not Biden is if something very bad happens - by which I mean “riderless horse leading a parade” bad.

re: #157 Mike Lamb

It’s funny—I sit on Earth, and occasionally think “How can you miss something the size of a planet?”

But then when I overlay the distances traveled in space, the speeds of the objects being intercepted, and that a planet or moon is just a speck of dust in space, it’s like “Oh…right. There’s a reason why ‘rocket scientist’ is a synonym for genius.”

This space is 50 inches wide:

To make a scale of the Earth and Moon, one on each side, the Earth model would be 1.25 inches, and the moon would be 3/8ths of an inch.

Rumors:

On February 19, the Sci-Fi Fantasy Gazette reported a rumor that Apple was circling Robert Pattinson to play Case in a Neuromancer series. That would contradict a 2022 QuietEarth rumor that suggested Miles Teller was up for the role. To be clear, Apple hasn’t even confirmed that Neuromancer is being made, which makes these casting rumors even less substantial.

The dog finally caught the car. They got Dobbs, now they’re left with… nothing. They have Trump, but he’s not going to be there. They have anti-“woke” and anti-LGBTQ platforms, but those don’t get people riled up to the point of attending conventions the way abortion did. Now they’re seeing how crazy it all appears, and they’re like, “I’d rather stay home and not have anything to do with this.”

To all the Republicans who “haven’t read the ruling” or about their own state shutting down all the IVF services, what the fuck did they have that was more important than reading it? No votes today. No reason to rush to CPAC to Schlap Matt.

This is their job.

And yes, I know they’re lying about it. But I wish someone would ask them that question.

“What did you have to do today that was more important than finding out why all the IVF services in your state are now suddenly closed?”

My vote for best B&W film is split between Fail-Safe and Doctor Strangelove. The former was produced right around the same time as Kubrick’s film. It was a classic film, playing the risks of nuclear war completely straight. But it lost the zeitgeist to Kubrick.

Nevertheless, the film was so well remembered that Noah Wylie got CBS to produce a live remake (!!!) one summer. It was a very good production.

1/ In the linked exchange, Justice Engoron denied Trump defendants’ attempt to delay entry of the judgment of $355M (plus interest - taking it to $460M), which will be entered tomorrow, starting a 30 day clock for Trump to appeal and post 120% of the amount in security. If not, NYAG can enforce.
iapps.courts.state.ny.us

2/ There are many inaccurate reports that Trump must post the money to appeal. That is not correct. Trump can appeal without posting the money, but under those circumstances NYAG James could enforce against Trump’s assets while the appeal is pending, seizing bank accounts and personal property.

3/3 If Trump eventually won the appeal, the NYAG would be required to refund the money seized (plus interest) to Trump. That would be little comfort to Trump, because the disruption of losing over $500M in assets would not be reversed by getting the money back.

Lisa Rubin thinks that the reason it seems to be taking so long for SCOTUS to release a ruling on Trump’s immunity claims is that one of the Justices is writing a dissenting opinion.

“Irrespective of where that comes out, the fact we’re still here a week after Trump submitted his reply brief, suggests to me that somebody has something to get off their chest that doesn’t involve where the majority of the court is on this,” Rubin said.

When Menendez asked if a decision could come as soon as Friday, Rubin said it was very possible.

“A lot of miscellaneous orders from the court in recent weeks have come on Fridays,” Rubin said. “So I think there is a chance we get it Friday. We also know the court conferences on Friday. Trump’s reply brief was announced last Thursday. They could have conferenced it last Friday, meaning that they gather around a table and discuss what they’re going to do with this motion. It’s possible that they didn’t do that last Friday, they do it tomorrow, and we hear from them soon after.”

If I were a betting man, I’d wager that Thomas and Alito sided with Trump on this matter. So who knows, maybe we’ll see a Friday SCOTUS news dump sometime later today (it’s early Friday morning in my part of the world).

A temporary lake has bubbled up in the park’s Badwater Basin, which lies 282 feet below sea level. What is typically a dry salt flat at the bottom of Death Valley has for months been teeming with water after record rains and flooding have battered eastern California since August.

SO, watched the highlights of the InterMiami MLS game from last night on my AVP. Holy crap. I can make the screen so that it fits my entire field of view at a distance of about 10 feet. And it is so clear I can read the Adidas logo on the ball when they show slow motion. I can even read the tatoos on the players ;-)

A lot of fun. Going to be interesting when Apple starts showing some 3D in the presentation.

Lisa Rubin thinks that the reason it seems to be taking so long for SCOTUS to release a ruling on Trump’s immunity claims is that one of the Justices is writing a dissenting opinion.

If I were a betting man, I’d wager that Thomas and Alito sided with Trump on this matter. So who knows, maybe we’ll see a Friday SCOTUS news dump sometime later today (it’s early Friday morning in my part of the world).

I doubt even they believe the appeal will succeed, but there is value in granting cert if only to delay the trials until June at the earliest. So they’re not arguing that they genuinely believe Trump will succeed, but instead they should at least hear him out for…reasons.

IMO, the conservative SCOTUS majority granting cert on Trump’s obviously frivolous immunity claim should be enough for all parts of the legal profession not on Leonard Leo’s payroll to dismiss this SCOTUS majority as partisan hacks.

So, Odysseus’ landing was delayed by two hours when the laser range finders failed and they used a lidar system sent up for testing instead to handle the touchdown…pretty fuckin’ cool.

Intuitive Machines delayed the landing by two hours to perform an additional orbit of the moon. The company said that it determined that laser rangefinders on the lander, a key instrument to enable a precise landing, were not working properly. Controllers uploaded a software patch to enable to the lander to use in their place use a NASA Doppler lidar payload originally intended to be a technology demonstration.

“Basically, it is the primary system to help provide the velocity and altitude information,” said Prasun Desai, NASA deputy associate administrator for space technology, of the NASA payload during the landing broadcast.

Which is the real reason this is going nowhere, because none of those arguing in favor of granting cert can articulate a reason for doing so that outweighs the headache of bringing the circus to town. Their colleagues aren’t convinced the appeal can succeed, any arguments about “duty” or “obligation” to hear the appeal are falling flat, and the months of increased furor from both sides is not worth it. So what we’re going to see is the majority of the bench saying “We deny certiorari” and the 1-2 fascism fetishists saying “We really wanted to hear this appeal, but the others on the bench were a bunch of meanies so no can do.”

New study shows fewer suicide attempts in women using hormonal contraceptives

This was the most recent study I could find. It looked at almost 600,000 women. Here are the results:

The research team found that attempted suicide rates between hormonal contraceptive users and non-users were similarly high in women between 15-19 (in general, suicide rates are higher in younger women and decrease with age), but suicide rates dropped in older age groups, with a greater drop in hormonal contraceptive users relative to non-users in the 20-24 and 25-29 age groups. In total the researchers saw 474 cases of attempted suicide in women who didn’t use hormonal contraceptives, with only 344 attempts in women who used hormonal contraceptives. Women not using contraceptives had a 37% greater odds of attempting suicide in comparison with those using hormonal contraceptives.

There is no consensus as Musk states.

That’s because, like I noted above, their arguments are basically the arguments they used for decades to impose various restrictions on abortion in the name of “women’s health.” They just scratched off the serial number and are now trying to sell you the same arguments as the reasons to ban/restrict safe and convenient birth control medication. And just like back then, they keep sending mixed signals by saying they’re worried about women…which is why they want to punish them with unwanted pregnancies.

Life really would get more efficient if everyone who is not a right wing nut job, especially the mainstream media, would get in the habit of dismissing all right wing arguments, apologetics etc. as worthless because axiomatically dishonest.

The error rate really would be negligible, and most right wing positions are so awful that to debate them is to give them more legitimacy than they deserve.

Of course, a policy like this would need to be ended if/when there is a significant fraction of right wingers who aren’t pathological liars and/or self-deluded fuckwits but, at least in the US, that’s a long ways off.

A big part of the problem is that we are decades behind where we should be wrt women’s health. For example, adolescent women on the pill may have a slightly greater chance of suicide than those not on the pill. But that may very well be caused by social activities (ie immature views of romantic relationships) not something due to the Pill’s biochemistry. Older women actually have lower suicide rates when on the pill.

And using the Pill can greatly reduce the chances of getting ovarian or uterine cancers. In fact, other comorbiditites (such as overweight or smoking) saw a greater benefit from the Pill. Musk does not mention that.

TL:DR - I am a genius too.
______________________________
I see the snark tag but who is to say I am not a genius? I’m just not a rent-seeking, sociopathic monster who steals companies from others, treats people like shit and misleads all the time. Or feels I need to be worshipped.

Let me make the case ;-)

I spent my life doing a longer term project (human health) than software. It takes decades to commercialize a new drug, not months. So I had less time to leverage my successes into billions. But I was able to generate enough money to make my family and I comfortable. Without having to do anything scummy. And I suspect my work may well save more lives than anything Musk has done.

I helped research, develop and bring to market two major category-defining biomedical approaches. One was Enbrel, which changed the way we deal with Arthritis in fundamental ways. The first really engineered biological (we did not just produce a natural protein at high levels; we created an entirely new protein that never existed before), we had to stop the blinded clinical trial because we could tell who was getting the drug - they stood up from their wheel chairs and walked. Ironically, I have been taking Enbrel off label for the last 7 years to control my auto-immune disease.

The other approach was researching and developing a novel Adenovirus vector to deliver specific genes, and their resulting proteins, to the immune system. Instead of injecting large amounts of the gene as mRNA (like the COVID vaccines) this system uses a non-replicating virus carrying cloned genes. SO the body reacts like it is a viral infection and raises antibodies and cell-mediated responses, even though the virus cannot replicate.

It allows us to specificaly modulate the immune system. It can be used for vaccines, especially cancer vaccines and the first major study using it it well along. It has the possibility of being even better than the mRNA vaccines as they have to suspend the refrigerated RNA in a squalene adjuvant than can be costly. Our adenovirus technology allows us to create a specific vaccine at full production levels in less than 60 days of the sequencing of the infectious agent. It will allow us to tailor a cancer vaccine specifically towards the tumor in an individual, rather than use a treatment for the masses. like chemo. And the vaccine can be stored at room temperature so it can easily be used in developing countries.

I made enough money off of these to live a very pleasant life, put my son through school and live in a house I adore with the wife I love. I do not need billions to show others how big my dick is. I realized 20 years ago that I did not want to be a serial entrepreneur because to do so successfully you really had to become an awful person.

By doing so, You did have to not really worry about meeting payroll or all those people losing their jobs.you love presenting stuff to the VCs because they would fund a fraud if it would make them money (viz Theranos). Everything was about pushing others down to raise themselves. You had to be a sociopath.

And then we make them into superstars.

Prison, in general, is unpleasant. Even Club Fed is not a walk in the park. Some places are worse than others, but overall, one of the great injustices of the system is the borderline inhumane conditions prisoners are kept in - even people who have not yet been convicted of their alleged crimes. This is doubly true when you consider the appalling rate of false convictions in this country, based on bad science and preconceived notions.

Created by Food Service Direct — an online store for chefs and restaurant operators — National Hospitality Workers Appreciation Day on February 23 appreciates the hard workers of the service industry who strive tirelessly to bring the best in comfort and luxury. The hospitality industry is often confused with the hotel industry, which is not the case. The latter is a branch of the former. The hospitality industry is broad and includes hotels, restaurants, bars, theme parks, tourism, and more. The presentation, creativity, entertainment, and quality of these businesses are all thanks to their hospitality workers, which is why we are celebrating them today!

So what we’re going to see is the majority of the bench saying “We deny certiorari” and the 1-2 fascism fetishists saying “We really wanted to hear this appeal, but the others on the bench were a bunch of meanies so no can do.”

there has to be more than duty or obligation to hear it
it has to be more than just ‘an argument’
there has to be merit, coherence.
there has to be some logic for how the argument would actually succeed

unless one of them can clearly articulate how the argument could win, then they’d just be jerking off

I suspect that is the argument they’re left making, that even if none of their colleagues believe Trump has any chance whatsoever of succeeding, the Court has some “duty” to at least allow him the opportunity to make it. That history will look kinder on them and the whole process if they enter the last ruling on the matter, even if they’ll basically be cribbing from the DC Appellate ruling when doing so.

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. I know we’ve been speculating about how Trump’s going to be able to put up the money owed in both the E Jean Carroll and NY AG cases, where he owes roughly $500 million with interest, but here’s another angle to consider.

Carroll and the AG can both seek to liquidate the properties owned by Trumpworld, including places like Trump Tower. But how much equity is actually there for those properties. If Trump has leveraged all of these properties with mortgages to acquire other properties, then the amount Trump can use to satisfy the judgment escrow requirements needed to appeal - so while Trump Tower could potentially be worth $500 million, but if it has multiple mortgages against it, then the equity that Trump can use to satisfy the judgment will be far less, and will require still more properties to be sold to satisfy.

The house of cards will come crumbling down.

Expect to know more on Monday, when the 30 day period ends for the Carroll case.

But cert denied is an outcome where all avenues of appeal are exhausted. The Court can simply find that the appellate court (or State Supreme Court below) ruled correctly and that the Court wont touch it because they agree with the outcome/ruling/analysis, etc.

I don’t see that happening here because of the novel issues involved, and the Court should step in to rule against Trump across the board on all these cases. But the fascist five (I know there’s a sinister 6, but the five are truly fascist - Roberts is the swing), may try to slash and burn the 14A3 to claim that he should still be on the ballot despite the fact that it clearly states the only way someone can get on the ballot after engaging in insurrection (which a majority of both the House and Senate found; and the GOP introduced resolutions) is to get 2/3 of both the House and Senate to remove the disqualification.

That means it is up to the states - no different than the state refusing to put someone who isn’t 35 or a natural born citizen. It’s up to the states to do so; and the 14A3 allows a means to override the disqualification, which the other constitutionally required minimum qualifications to be POTUS does not - you can petition Congress to get 2/3 of each chamber to override.

My comments still apply - the immunity case is a novel application and likely should be picked up for the SCOTUS to make clear that it has precisely no basis in law or fact and deny the immunity claims in a strongly worded decision. You could cert deny it based on the rationale of the court below, but Trump could then try the same claims again in a different circuit that might be more favorable to him. Difference of outcome depending on the circuits would mean the Court would have to take the case.

But doesn’t that play into Trump’s delaying tactics? OK, SCOTUS grants cert….but then we don’t get a decision out of them until the end of the calendar in June. The 2 cases going to SCOTUS are the immunity case and the 14A3 insurrection disqualification case.

Trump should lose both on the merits and the law. He’s lost at the lower courts on all of his claims, but SCOTUS is more likely to eviscerate the 14A3 to “grand bargain” the immunity case against him.

The Court could expedite the rulings on both. Should we count on that? Perhaps, because the 14A3 case has deadlines to get on the ballot, and that will play into the ruling timeline.

I suspect that the bargain is that the liberal justices agree to punt on the ballot issue in exchange for their conservative counterparts agreeing to deny cert on the immunity case without too much of a fuss. There’s nothing to be gained by dragging out the latter until June if they’re just going to agree with the DC Appellate ruling, all they’ll do is piss both sides off by burning up four months just to acknowledge that the lower court got it right in the first place.

Welcome to Florida!! 🤔

With a brief memo, Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo has subverted a public health standard that’s long kept measles outbreaks under control.

On Feb. 20, as measles spread through Manatee Bay Elementary in South Florida, Ladapo sent parents a letter granting them permission to send unvaccinated children to school amid the outbreak.

The Department of Health “is deferring to parents or guardians to make decisions about school attendance,” wrote Ladapo, who was appointed to head the agency by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, whose name is listed above Ladapo’s in the letterhead.

Ladapo’s move contradicts advice from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“This is not a parental rights issue,” said Scott Rivkees, Florida’s former surgeon general who is now a professor at Brown University. “It’s about protecting fellow classmates, teachers, and members of the community against measles, which is a very serious and very transmissible illness.”

When you’re scraping the bottom of the barrel…

Democratic Presidential Candidate Dean Phillips Says He’s Open to Being Nikki Haley’s Running Mate on a ‘Unity Ticket’

mediaite.com

After WCCO radio host Chad Hartman asked Phillips whether he would vote for Haley over Biden if she were to somehow become the 2024 Republican nominee, Phillips said:

Wouldn’t all your listeners be more compelled by maybe Nikki Haley and Dean Phillips getting together on a unity ticket and actually doing for the first time, perhaps in our country’s history, what most Americans really want, which is cooperation, collaboration, participation, decency, common sense, leadership? So I’m gonna turn the question that way because there’s no way Nikki Haley will become the nominee in the GOP, and the fact of the matter is right now the Democratic Party doesn’t want competition and seems to want to coronate Joe Biden.

“Let’s say she ran as an independent, you would run as her VP?” questioned Hartman.

Phillips replied, “I think it’s a conversation Ambassador Haley and I should have, if that’s what this comes down to.”

He continued:

In the event of a Donald Trump victory this November, which is almost certain if Joe Biden is the nominee, I think any American who opposes that should celebrate, encourage, and inspire an alternative that can actually win and lead our country in the way that people want, and I think anybody, including myself, should keep open minds and hearts about that. I hope Nikki Haley does and I think America could be very well served by some type of a bipartisan ticket that restores faith in government and most importantly demonstrates to the world, to the world, that America can work together and restore its extraordinary brand around the entire world.

Phillips concluded, “That’s my aspiration, Chad. One way or another.”

I rather suspect that is the root of Orange Julius’ fears, that once the curtain is drawn back the people will learn that he really “owns” nothing. That all of his “success” evaporates over night and we all learn that he’s mortgaged up to his eyeballs and couldn’t actually liquidate any part of his “empire” without a bank or loan shark going “Now hold on there…”

This is likely true, but also old news: that the “Trump Empire” (outside of the golf properties) is basically a huge pile of debts with a flimsy, if gaudy, facade has been reported on for a long time. Oh, Donald has plenty of money: he’s always been adept at raking off the max, but yeah, his “net” -I.e. unencumbered - worth has always (even ignoring his megalomaniac overvaluations) been less than popular imagination (and Trumpian PR) has made it. There’s a reason why his business rep was in eclipse even before
The Apprentice, and it’s likely that even had he not ran for (and, disgracefully, been elected) President, he might have ended up in front of Judge Engoron for his frauds anyway.

Not that the red-hat crowds slavering at his rallies are going to know or care, they’ll likely buy into Trump’s “victim” narrative the same way they’ve unquestioningly bought every other line of bullshit he’s peddled them.

I love how all these guys have confidently declared themselves the arbiters of “the point of sex.” Nowhere in the Bible does it declare that sex is only procreative - only that adultery is bad. In fact, the Bible doesn’t even specifically declare that premarital sex in and of itself is bad, only that Christians are not to engage in “sexual immorality” - the meaning of which is up for debate. I tend to lean toward an interpretation that means that if sexual activity is drawing you away from God’s purpose, or (in the context of the time in which the passages were written) you are participating in sexual rituals to pagan gods, it is immoral. And again, louder, for the idiots in the back: None of this should be illegal. Christian moral code should not be law; that way is legalism.

“Premarital sex is bad” is an interpretation of the Biblical phrase “sexual immorality” that came about as a counter-revolution to the Sexual Revolution of the 1960’s. Christians of the time looked at all the hippies having a good time with drugs and sex and how it drew people away from the “old-time religion,” and declared they weren’t about all that. Thus arose purity culture, a revitalization of the old patriarchal value of female chastity that layered on rules about drug use, piercings, and tattoos in order to set themselves up as the guardians of culture, forever warring against the rebellious younger generation.

Here’s from the BBC on Germany’s legalization of cannabis.

The German parliament has backed a new law to allow the recreational use of cannabis.

Under the law, over-18s in Germany will be allowed to possess substantial amounts of cannabis, but strict rules will make it difficult to buy the drug.

Smoking cannabis in many public spaces will become legal from 1 April.

Possession of up to 25g, equivalent to dozens of strong joints, is to be allowed in public spaces. In private homes the legal limit will be 50g.

Already police in some parts of Germany, such as Berlin, often turn a blind eye to smoking in public, although possession of the drug for recreational use is illegal and can be prosecuted.

Use of the drug among young people has been soaring for years despite the existing law, says Health Minister Karl Lauterbach, who is instigating the reforms.

He wants to undermine the black market, protect smokers from contaminated cannabis and cut revenue streams for organised crime gangs.

But legal cannabis cafes will not suddenly spring up all over the country.

While I understand your point, as a Christian who intends to fight back against the growing tide of white nationalism that is sweeping across my religion, it’s important to articulate what the Bible - our supposedly authoritative guide to our religion - actually says, and where and when these misinterpretations to which they subscribe come from. I am fighting my own culture war here; a war for the soul of Christianity, a religion that is being overtaken by Christofascists who believe that they, and they alone, are the rightful rulers of the world, and wield the power of God and anime in their crusade. I post it here because it’s really the only place I have to put my ruminations on theology and historical Christianity, and because you guys are so goddamn good at fact-checking me, a youngster who didn’t live through most of the times where these things came about.

I’m mostly ok with “my religion requires me to do this.” “My religion requires you to do this” is the bad part.

I want these asshats, almost uniformly men, to understand that they have NO IDEA what it’s like and how it feels to realize you might be pregnant and it’s absolutely Not The Time. Pretty much every person who can get pregnant has had that experience. Men will NEVER have the experience of “Oh, God, what do I do now?”

If they think women are going to stand idly by while our birth control is taken from us, they have another thing coming. Mai ghod, rolling back to prior to 1960, NOPE.

Vice Media’s New Owners to Lay Off Hundreds, Cease Publishing on Website

The ownership group that bought Vice Media out of bankruptcy last year is preparing to eliminate the bulk of the once-colossal digital publisher’s staff over the next few days, Vice CEO Bruce Dixon announced Thursday. He said the company will “fully transition to a studio model” and no longer publish its digital content on Vice Media’s flagship website. Additionally, Dixon said ownership is in advanced talks to sell the entertainment website Refinery29. The news came hours after rumors of the site’s shuttering—which executives did not immediately address—gripped Vice’s editorial staff. Vice Media was once valued at $5.7 billion following investments from Disney and A&E Networks but has been reduced to a shell in recent years as the digital landscape has crumbled. After suffering yearly layoffs and losses, Vice filed for bankruptcy last year and was purchased by private equity firm Fortress Investment Group. Rather than reinvest in the company, Fortress has decided to institute the deep and sweeping cuts trending across digital media. The layoffs at Vice come as other prominent news outlets including the Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal have either slashed payrolls or closed shop altogether.

First Vice closes down it’s internet page and now this…

NPR Affiliate Shutters Local News Site DCist

NPR affiliate WAMU announced on Friday that it would shutter local news site DCist, which it had acquired in 2018. The call came from station manager Erika Pulley-Hayes, who in about 10 minutes told all staff employees that WAMU would slash DCist’s newsroom as part of a strategy change to focus primarily on audio journalism. She took no questions. DCist joins the ever-extending list of digital media outlets shuttered in just the first two months of 2024, its announcement landing the day after Vice’s mass layoff. CBS News and the Wall Street Journal made significant cuts in early February, and Business Insider, the Los Angeles Times, Sports Illustrated, and Pitchfork all faced major layoffs in January. The Messenger CEO Jimmy Finkelstein axed hundreds of employees without severance pay when he shuttered the site last month, callously calling their GoFundMe “wonderful.”

Special prosecutor Nathan Wade visited Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D) at her condo at least 35 times prior to when they claim their relationship began, according to an analysis of cell phone data compiled by an investigator working with former President Trump’s legal team.

The new document, filed on Friday, raises questions about the veracity of Willis and Wade’s testimony regarding the timeline of their relationship.

Trump and his co-defendants are attempting get their historic election racketeering indictment tossed by disqualifying the district attorney’s office over the duo’s romantic ties, claiming it created conflict of interest. Willis’s office has acknowledged the relationship but insists there is no conflict.

I’m not a business person, but isn’t there a process for registering a corporation in a specific state? Wouldn’t the business’s state of incorporation be the most relevant factor in determining if a state has jurisdiction to seize its assets?

Update:

With the “original” two 40a relays, voltage drop was 1/2 a volt across the distribution panel.

That’s a lot when you’re starting with 12 volts.

When I swapped out the relays for two ssrs it was a whopping 2 volts. A massive loss.

Now with one heavy duty relay and more efficient wiring, voltage drop across the distribution panel is near zero.

Stay tuned

What’s your opinion on Trump using those addresses in FL? I suspect he was trying to pull a fast one, hoping the AG wouldn’t read them too closely, then his lawyers would try to argue in a FL courtroom that NY has no jurisdiction.

It most certainly is an attempt to circumvent the NYS monitor and ability to attach. However, the state has clearly found a pattern of behavior by Trumpworld and its business organizations’ properties around the nation routinely inflating values to members/creditors, while lying about the valuations to tax authorities. The businesses were NY businesses at the times the crimes occurred, so it will still be able to attach conditions to those properties and the businesses that operate them (the small business corporations - the LLCs, LLPs, S corps) that Trump set up for each. It is possible that Trumpworld thinks that moving them to FL will allow the FL AG to interfere and thwart the outcome.

It just gets better and better.

Bipartisan ethics regulators in Wisconsin have recommended felony charges against one of Donald Trump’s fundraising arms and other Republicans in a scheme that they say was meant to circumvent campaign finance laws to take out a powerful GOP lawmaker who has turned against Trump.

The prosecution referrals became public Friday and add to the legal troubles of the former president, who is already facing 91 charges in four cases in other jurisdictions. The website WisPolitics first reported on the referrals in Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin Ethics Commission this week found probable cause that Trump’s Save America committee and several state and local Republican officials committed felonies and recommended several district attorneys investigate and prosecute them, according to records released Friday. The commission’s investigation centers on the 2022 primary race between Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, one of the most powerful Republicans in Wisconsin, and Adam Steen, a political newcomer who embraced Trump.

Individuals and most political entities can give a maximum of $1,000 each to candidates for the Wisconsin Assembly under state law, but arms of political parties can give them unlimited amounts. The commission alleges Steen, Steen’s campaign and three county Republican parties arranged to sidestep campaign finance laws by having donors give money to one of the county parties, which would then steer it to Steen’s campaign or his vendors, according to the records released Friday.

Trumpworld should be sanctioned for trying to circumvent the asset seizure and monitoring. That’s just my hot take. They are NY businesses and these changes are being done to try and avoid the civil fraud judgment in NY. Courts and the DOS of each state shouldn’t take kindly on that kind of action, especially when reciprocity on enforcement is a keystone of interstate relations. You want to be able to seize assets in another state to enforce judgments in your state just as the other state wants to be able to seize in your state to enforce their judgments.

When Oliver heard that Charlotte, the daughter of American Vice President Mike Pence, had written a children’s book about Pence’s pet rabbit called Marlon Bundo, he decided to ask Jill Twiss to write a book about Marlon too. The purpose was to write a book with genuine appeal to children but which also strongly supports same-sex marriage - to which Pence is fanatically opposed. A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo is the happy result.

Ex-KGB agent played Pompeo for a fool

Ex-KGB agent handed Mike Pompeo ‘dirt’ on Biden at a 2019 Beverly Hills gala: report

At a gala on May 11, 2019, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was handed a thumb drive from a “foreign national” with “dirt” on Hunter Biden and the Ukrainian energy company, Burisma, according to a new report.

An exclusive report from Insider cited “two sources with direct knowledge of the incident, who explained that the thumb drive was given to Pompeo’s aides by an FBI informant, and former KGB agent, with the code name “Rollie.” Insider said it had decided not to print the informant’s real name.

When asked about it, “Rollie” first denied the claim and, when shown photos of him with Pompeo, he wrote over WhatsApp, “You can publish. It’s advertising for me. I’m not interested in the past.”

He denied handing over the thumb drive.

On the drive was the same information he gave months earlier to Justice Department officials in Los Angeles, Insider reported.

The documents contain “poorly sourced allegations” from old news articles and links from Ukrainian and Russian websites saying Hunter Biden was laundering money. They frequently refer to President Joe Biden using his first name but misspelling it “Josef,” Insider wrote.

“They contain no evidence of criminal activity,” the report said.

Rudy Giuliani is known to have given Pompeo a folder of documents containing unproven allegations he got while in Ukraine in March 2019. It’s also when, as Insider characterized him, “right-wing investigative reporter John Solomon” also began writing about Burisma and the Bidens for The Hill.

Johnson didn’t disclose any bank accounts, doesn’t mean he doesn’t have any. Congress only needs to disclose interest bearing accounts with more than $5000 in it. So a checking account that doesn’t pay interest or savings accounts under $5000 don’t need to be disclosed.

Mr. w once took an old slogan, one nuclear bomb can ruin your whole day, and made it a new one, based on his personal history, one nuclear family can ruin your whole life.

Now ask yourself why every last Trumpworld figure keeps taking photos of suspicious situations and encounters? It’s because everyone knows they’re up to no good and want to document it in case they’re investigated or indicted. All of them.

They know they’re in deep shit, but they’re all engaging in CYA and ready to throw others under the bus all while trying to show fealty to Trump (which is another reason they’re doing this - to show bad acts/bad loyalty to Trump to Trump).

Looks like the Ukrainians took down another Beriev A-50 (Russian equivalent of AWACS).

It is official. Russian A-50 has been downed. The Ukrainian Air Force in cooperation with the Main Directorate of Intelligence take responsibility in this operation. This information has been released by Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleschuk.

The loss of another plane of this type, which btw. cost 350 million USD, is a severe setback for Russia and gives the Ukrainian Air Force, which in foreseeable future will engage Russian forces with F-16, an immeasurable advantage.

Maybe flares dropping?

That is what it looks like. Decoy flares to confuse SAM’s. And it appears that the first missile missed the plane and took out a flare at 0:53. But that another missile got something large, like an A-50. And there seems to be a third SAM or something at the top of the screen that was also missing the target.

I’ve been pondering Trump’s VP pick. He will pick some version of Mike Pence. Someone who won’t have more press coverage than his orangeness would be his first priority in picking a running mate.

As far is picking a woman or person of color, I think that’s a non-starter in Trump’s addled brain. I might be giving him too much credit, but I assume he understands that the VP could potentially replace him. No way does he want to give the impression that a woman or person of color could replace him.

Pence was basically Reek in Trumpworld (until Jan. 6), but at least he’s a white man.

That’s the part the I have trouble including in my thinking. I imagine narcissists don’t spend much time contemplating their mortality.

Anytime I try to come up with a person, my mind goes to motherfucking Jared. Not sure why. Maybe Trump has admiration for the dude banging his daughter?
