Angle camp bans TV stations from election party
LAS VEGAS -- Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle's campaign is banning two Las Vegas television stations from covering the candidate's election night party as punishment for asking questions without permission.
Journalists from the local CBS and NBC news affiliates surprised Angle at McCarran International Airport on Friday to ask her questions about national security and unemployment. Video footage shows the GOP Senate candidate telling the reporters she will answer questions once she is elected.
Hours later, Angle spokeswoman Ciara Matthews told the news stations they are no longer invited to the election night party.

As to the ones that get elected to the Senate or House, they are probably right. The committee system will bury those people. All they will be able to do is hold crazy press conferences. They won't chair committees or subcommittees, so they won't have the ability to get legislation to the floor.

TANCREDO: It is an attitude that you see all the time. Yes, I spent 10 years in Congress. I could certainly see it there. There is a sort of an elitist idea that seeps into the head of a lot of people who get elected. And they begin to think of themselves as, really, there for only one purpose and that is to make laws. And why would you make laws? Well, because you know, better than anybody else what to do.

War. War never changes. When atomic fire consumed the earth, those who survived did so in great, underground vaults. When they opened, their inhabitants set out across ruins of the old world to build new societies, establish new villages, form new tribes. As decades passed, what had been the American southwest united beneath the flag of the New California Republic, dedicated to old world values, democracy and the rule of law.
As the Republic grew, so did its needs. Scouts spread east, seeking territory and wealth, in the dry and merciless expanse of the Mojave Desert. They returned with tales of a city untouched by the warheads that had scorched the rest of the world and a great wall spanning the Colorado River. The NCR mobilized its army and set it east to occupy the Hoover Dam and restore it to working condition. But across the Colorado, another society had arisen under a different flag. A vast army of slaves, forged in the conquest of 86 tribes: Caesar's Legion. Four years have passed since the Republic held the Dam, just barely, against the Legion's onslaught. The Legion did not retreat. Across the River, they gathered strength. Campfires burned, training drums beat. Through it all, the New Vegas Strip has stayed open for business under the control of its mysterious overseer, Mr. House and his army of rehabilitated Tribals and police robots.

I almost feel some personal sympathy for her on an entirely personal level, she is a rather simple, uncomplicated person with a vulnerable side who seems to feel safe being part of a big family or a movement.
That does not at all imply that I find her fit to hold public office, although from her record, she is not fit to hold down a job in the private sector either...
But once the campaign is over, she will have a career made as some sort of public figure/news speaker, etc., until she totally implodes. At which point I will have to feel sorry for her as a person.

How do these people feel like they know anything about Angle I can understand hating or not loving Reid but still.

Yes. The wingers are always whining about ACORN, SEIU, and other fabrications of voter fraud. Now look at this:
'Operation Alaska Chaos': Right-Wingers Pushed Flood Of AK-SEN Write-In Candidates
The flood of write-in candidates in the Alaska Senate race was pushed by Big Government's Dan Riehl and the conservative group Conservatives 4 Palin in an attempt to hurt Sen. Lisa Murkowski's own write-in campaign and give Republican nominee (and tea party favorite) Joe Miller a boost.
Beginning on Riehl's Big Government blog and dubbed "Operation Alaska Chaos" by C4P, Miller supporters were encouraged to file as write-in candidates so Murkowski's name would be buried on the official list of candidates. It worked.
Things had been going well for Murkowski's campaign, with the Alaska Supreme Court this week overturning a lower court's ruling that would have prevented voters from seeing a list of write-in candidates when they go to the polls. Now it seems that might have been a mixed blessing for Murkowski.
The filing deadline for write-in candidates was yesterday, and the full list came out today, with well over 100 names.
Continues.
Dan Riehl and Big Government promoting unethical activities. What a surprise.

Failing Upward: Breitbart To Be Featured in ABC's 2010 Election Coverage
October 29, 2010 5:33 pm ET by Matt GertzMedia Matters has confirmed that noted propagandist Andrew Breitbart will provide analysis for ABC News during their election night coverage.
After Breitbart's BigJournalism.com website reported that Breitbart would "be bringing analysis live from Arizona" for ABC, Media Matters confirmed his participation in a town hall meeting anchored by ABC's David Muir and Facebook's Randi Zuckerberg that will be featured in the network's coverage.
Asked about Breitbart's history of unethical behavior and misinformation, ABC News' David Ford told Media Matters: "He will be one of many voices on our air, including Bill Adair of Politifact. If Andrew Breitbart says something that is incorrect, we have other voices to call him on it."

Write-ins flood Alaska Senate race list
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- The number of write-in candidates for Alaska's U.S. Senate seat has swelled to about 150 amid an effort by conservatives to target the write-in candidacy of GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski.
The number by Thursday's write-in deadline had grown from just a handful earlier this week.
Murkowski mounted her bid after losing the primary to tea-party backed Joe Miller, and some conservatives have urged Alaskans to make their own write-in runs
Those conservatives include Dan Riehl, who issued a call on Andrew Breitbart's Big Government website to "highlight the chaos brought about by Lisa Murkowski's seemingly unending quest for power" with her campaign...

The new law will eliminate fees paid to private banks to act as intermediaries in providing loans to college students and use much of the nearly $68 billion in savings over 11 years to expand Pell Grants and make it easier for students to repay outstanding loans after graduating. The law also invests $2 billion in community colleges over the next four years to provide education and career training programs to workers eligible for Trade Adjustment aid.
The only tie to health care was Lamar Alexander's claim
The senator said students would be overcharged on their loans with the proceeds used for the health care law.
Oh, I believe Lamar Alexander. Never.
Help for students = bad. Help for the loan business = good. That's all I see from the GOP et al.

As Reid Falters, Schumer Subtly Stands in the Wings
Yet given his own deep political ambitions and drive, Mr. Schumer is also very carefully laying the groundwork to move on a moment’s notice to try to secure the top Democratic job if Mr. Reid is defeated on Tuesday.

Schumer is not someone who should be in the top Democratic job.
It should belong to Al Franken, an unabashed Policy Wonk with a the guts to take it to his political foes when needed.

After delivering this rapier analysis, Sharron Angle then returned to her porch rocker, eating baked beans out of a shoe. A child in overalls strummed a banjo nearby. A dog barked somewhere in the darkness.

By Elizabeth CrumThe Sharron Angle campaign has just confirmed that Senator John McCain will join Angle at a get-out-the-vote rally at the Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas this Friday night. Michael Reagan and actor Jon Voight will also speak.
Sharron Angle: policy wonk.

I know... that big bad corporation charges 82.00 dollars a person to enter any of their Florida parks. And I noticed that the company is like some kind of corporate cult. There were employee after employee who had taken the Mark of The Mouse, and wearing large oversized white gloved hands... and they kept trying to wave their hands at me, lulling me into a hypnotic trance.
The whole Disney empire is a prime example of capitalism gone out of control.

"And I'd like to interject a note of balance here. There are times when we all get in high dudgeon. We ought to be reasonable about this. I think there are probably very few people in this room or in America who would say that torture should never, ever be used, particularly if thousands of lives are at stake. Take the hypothetical: If we knew that there was a nuclear bomb hidden in an American city and we believed that some kind of torture, fairly severe maybe, would give us a chance of finding that bomb before it went off, my guess is most Americans and most senators, maybe all, would say, "Do what you have to do." So it's easy to sit back in the armchair and say that torture can never be used. But when you're in the foxhole, it's a very different deal."

Franken's got the guts and brains. What he doesn't have is the tact or experience. And do you really want another Dem leader in Congress who's gonna be vulnerable when his seat comes up?
The GOP is smarter about this--their leaders in Congress tend to come from states like KY, MS, TN, etc., deep red states where they aren't likely to face stiff reelection challenges.

This is a continuation of the culture war and the right's attendant persecution complex.
Angle won't talk to any media except Fox because she and the tea party have decided that all other outlets lean so far to the left that they can't be trusted (i.e., they might actually expect an answer to a difficult question.) Indeed, to them all media besides Fox, WSJ and a few other papers, and talk radio deserves to be vilified.
This meme has been around for decades. Ironically, now with media diversification, the right's argument is weaker than ever before. But if they can win using Fox and ignoring the rest of the media, why not?

I was thinking more in terms of congress men and women then senators.
O am sure there will be some sort of uprising if the Tea Partiers really try to get rid of earmarks or spending in GOP districts. I think that is what Obama is hoping for too which is why he keeps talking about compromise and open to working with.
Congress is crazier than the senate. There was 1 GOPER out of x hundred who voted for the healthcare legislation, from louisiana if i recall.

He's in a squeaker now, but if he wins he's got 6 years before he has to worry about it again... and I'm not so sure a majority leader should last more than 6 years anyway.

The fact that she would treat the voters with such disdain, that she would be so dismissive of the public and the press to suggest that they will know her views on foreign policy only after they elect her is the absolute height of arrogance. If they elect this woman, they deserve every bit of pain it results in.

I realize this thread has pretty much ended, but I just have to note that besides moral problems with torture, studies over the years have shown it just doesn't work. So as much as we might feel better torturing someone to elicit a life saving answer, it probably is the least effective method of gathering useful information.

National Republicans support Angle mainly to see the Democrat Majority leader defeated. I read an article in the Las Vegas Sun that pointed out they should be more careful what they wish for. Republicans are not very likely to gain majority control of the Senate, and a Reid loss in the election means that the Democrats would need to get a new majority leader. The point of the article was that all of the leading contenders are significantly to the left of Reid in the political spectrum, and a lot less desirable to Republicans as majority leader than Reid would be.
