Here We Go Again: FBI Will Review New Emails in Hillary Clinton Case

Politics • Views: 51,714

Eleven days before the election, FBI director James Comey has announced they’re reviewing newly discovered Hillary Clinton emails.

An amazing number of news sources are reporting that the FBI is “reopening the investigation,” and of course Donald Trump and his people are delightedly crowing the same thing, but that is not what the actual statement says. It says they’re reviewing the emails, not reopening the investigation. It may seem like a small distinction, but it’s part of a pattern we’ve seen throughout this overblown story, in which the details are wildly exaggerated to falsely impute wrongdoing to Hillary Clinton.

These are the actual words used by FBI director Comey:

“In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation … I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation,” he wrote.

This is in the “Politics” category because it just stinks of it.

I’ve reached Peak Election, at least temporarily. My anxiety level is getting to the point where it’s affecting my ability to get work done.

I’m going to start muting various accounts on Twitter and stop actively looking for election news; that includes LGF.

I would suggest various other Lizards do the same.

See you on Monday at the earliest, folks. I’m out.

Of course, Comey’s letter has been interpreted by Trump to mean that his faith in the FBI and DOJ have been restored. They aren’t rigged and corrupt as he has been saying since his lifeline to HRC emails failed in a torrent of bleach.

Right until the moment the FBI clarifies and states that there’s no criminality found in Clinton emails and that we should carry on as though the Comey letter doesn’t exist.

This wont stop Trump from claiming that the emails are Watergate Part 2 (did this a few minutes ago), nor other partisan hacks from claiming this will finally take Clinton down.

Yep. IIRC, the Romans used it in deserts. Sugar is sweet. You need it to live but too much will kill you. Lead tastes sweet but will always kill you once you eat enough. Interesting comparison…

It does, if I recall correctly, it was used as an artificial sweetener during the Roman empire.

Yup, probably why most Roman Emperors got a reputation for insanity.

Romans used a fruit syrup to flavor a lot of their foods, and they learned that lead cauldrons produced the sweetest syrups, which naturally were highly sought after.

Comey is a corrupt hack who crafted a deliberately vague letter to try and influence the election. ALL Republicans are trash utterly lacking in even the most basic principles, they want to turn the US into a banana republic.

14
lawhawk  Oct 28, 2016 • 11:14:29am

Comey is required to inform Congress that there’s new/more information that has come to light since he testified. GOP automagically assumes this means charges forthcoming or game-changer. Too bad there’s nothing to suggest this is the case. Not in the emails to date, not in the stolen DNC or Podesta emails. Nothing.

15

re: #8 William Lewis

ugh

Like other lead(II) salts, lead(II) acetate has a sweet taste, which has led to its use as a sugar substitute throughout history. The ancient Romans, who had few sweeteners besides honey, would boil must (grape juice) in lead pots to produce a reduced sugar syrup called defrutum, concentrated again into sapa. This syrup was used to sweeten wine and to sweeten and preserve fruit. It is possible that lead(II) acetate or other lead compounds leaching into the syrup might have caused lead poisoning in those who consumed it.[7] Lead acetate is no longer used in the production of sweeteners in most of the world because of its recognized toxicity. Modern chemistry can easily detect it, which has all but stopped the illegal use that continued decades after legal use as a sweetener was banned.[8]

I don’t think it’s a conspiracy either, but from the vagueness of the statement, the timing, and the information now coming out that these are not even Clinton’s emails he’s talking about, it really does look like he’s trying to influence the election.

No. Comey doesn’t get a break for that, because that was part of a Comey-initiated circus about the decision to not press charges.

I don’t think it’s a conspiracy either, but from the vagueness of the statement, the timing, and the information now coming out that these are not even Clinton’s emails he’s talking about, it really does look like he’s trying to influence the election.

I left a comment directed at Nyet in the last thread wondering if Comey is just trying to get back in the good graces of the Republicans he has been said to let down with his presser where he announced no indictments.

I think this all stated with Chaffetz getting a rise when he found he may have wiggle room to look into a perjury charge. Maybe since that time Comey has been looking for a way to please the party and this is his opportunity.

All I know is this has been one fucked up election. I get the feeling the next week is going to be really crazy.

I don’t want to end up sounding like the Drumpfskindanhangers.

They are the ones who rant about the evil media.

“The media”, which is really a noun that is too poorly defined, are just people who make money by getting people to listen to them or read them. There has always been a wide range of quality when it comes to “the media.”

I think what we’re really upset at here is how gullible so many of our fellow citizens are, or perhaps even more so, how lazy there are.

Everyday there are those stupid image-memes that pop up on my Facebook wall that, if one simply took a minute to do some basic research online, can be shown to be outrageously false.

But the meme sharers, like the chain-mail writers of old, don’t really care. They are going through an exercise in reinforcing their already-held beliefs.

Yes, though I believe that we are skipping over something important: being President is not so useful if Congress is determined to shut you down.

And all this puffery about EMAILS! is about keeping the frothing masses worked up to get them to turn out and at least vote for Republican congressmen, if not for Drumpfskind personally.

I believe seriously that if the Republicans keep control of Congress then the next 4 years will be nothing but investigations. And as already noted, these attempts will be for nothing else but to trap people perjuring themselves, which will be used to justify even more investigations.

Well there’s one area where sanity seems to be prevailing:

The Air Force Now Plans To Keep The A-10 Warthog Flying Indefinitely

Considering that the USAF was planning on making the F-35 assume the A-10 role despite lacking similar firepower or survivability, to say nothing of having a gun that has a fraction of the capacity of the A-10 Avenger gun, and this is the best possible outcome pending a new ground-pounder aircraft built mission specific for close ground support.

I am more and more in agreement with those who think it won’t matter. I was just checking a FB page dedicated to PSAs and police reporting in Manchester, NH. There is the predictable warning about avoiding the area because of traffic gridlock. Most who bother to comment there are generally tea party and conservative types, but there was quite a bit of “stay out, Donald.” Those who played up the emails are clearly already convinced that HRC should be behind bars. It does, if I recall correctly, it was used as an artificial sweetener during the Roman empire.

I had always been told that they didn’t use it in food intentionally. They used it in their plumbing, which meant the upper classes were all being poisoned. The evidence for this is partly what we know about lead-soldering in ancient times, and also the fact that the Romans ate various sauces that we would find utterly noxious. Why? Because the lead had mostly destroyed their sense of taste, so they had to eat incredibly pungent stuff if they wanted to actually taste what they were eating.

Then Rush came back on and, as he sometimes does, threw a crazy sort of spitball. My guess - and consider it only a guess - is that the FBI is treating this new cache of emails to be relevant only because HRC was either a recipient or sender, and therefore they need to be evaluated for relevancy.

Odds are that this will be a big nothingburger, because in the 30k+ emails previously reviewed, there was no criminality despite the FBI’s own awful handling of the matter (not getting that (c) in the wrong place means that the document wasn’t properly classified for instance).

The bureau told Congress on Friday that it had uncovered new emails related to the Clinton case — one federal official said they numbered in the thousands — potentially reigniting an issue that has weighed on the presidential campaign and offering a lifeline to Donald J. Trump less than two weeks before the election.

nytimes.com

The “thousands” of emails may not be “new” but it will no doubt require some time to cross reference with other emails in FBI/DoJ possession

It’s already been reported the emails weren’t from Clinton, so presumably they must have been from Huma to her.

Yep. The thing about emails, they tend to lay around on outside servers for a long time. And depending on how your email server and client are set, they could be still on a server without your knowledge because you thought they were being downloaded to your device and cleaned off the server.

If so, then it was gross malfeasance for Comey to do what he did with his letter. Anyone sincerely interested in investigating or building a case would have waited until the new information was well enough in hand for the FBI to provide a complete and conclusive report to Congress regarding the new emails.

But that wouldn’t be helpful for Team (R) in the election.

Trump gets lucky like a squirrel finding a buried nut. The FBI found emails that might relate to Clinton in the Weiner emails.

As I stated above, I doubt anything of import will be found in Weiner’s emails.

I also think that Huma’s emails have previously been reviewed, so unless there was additional devices located, this isn’t going to affect Huma.

Prosecutors are supposed to follow the evidence wherever it leads. In this case, the unrelated Weiner case revealed emails that might be relevant to the Clinton email kerfuffle. So, the FBI has to review those emails to see if they’re even relevant, let alone support any contention of wrongdoing.

The GOP has jumped to conclusions that this is the smoking gun proof of criminality, when the 30k emails that the FBI has thus far reviewed found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing or anything worthy of prosecuting.

The GOP will continue jumping to conclusions, because this is what they do. It’s what Trump does.

He could have been less vague, and less directed at Clinton. He was trying to use this to hurt Hillary.

Got it. So the facts of 1-3 are correct….some emails were found in the course of an ongoing criminal investigation that are about or to Hillary (we’ll remove the from). They’re under review as part of that investigation.

That’s it. THAT is the story.

Then it got spun into threaded bullshit 5 different ways by desperate Republicans but the essential story is above.

Eric Garner’s Daughter Blasts Hillary Clinton Campaign Over WikiLeaks Emails About Her Father

The daughter of a New York City man who died after he was placed in a chokehold by city police lashed out against the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton over purportedly hacked emails released by WikiLeaks that show campaign aides weighing whether to refer to her father’s death in a planned newspaper op-ed.

Erica Garner, whose father Eric Garner’s death in July 2014 sparked widespread protests, on Thursday tweeted her disapproval over what she apparently sees as the campaign considering “using” her father’s death to promote a political viewpoint.

“I’m troubled by the revelation that you and this campaign actually discussed ‘using’ Eric Garner … Why would you want to ‘use’ my dad?” read one of Garner’s tweets.

I know there were many opinions expressed by people who were not part of the investigation—including people in government—but none of that mattered to us. Opinions are irrelevant, and they were all uninformed by insight into our investigation, because we did the investigation the right way. Only facts matter, and the FBI found them here in an entirely apolitical and professional way. I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this organization.

Groups of heavily armed young Turks and Arabs routinely beat white youngsters into pulp, especially their faces and teeth, while filming the whole episode for distribution among their mates. The juvenile court judge provides the grisly details www (dot) youtube (dot) com/watch?v=1DHJouSioDU

YouTube: Well known source of accurate information. That’s where I go to learn how evil I am as an atheist liberal.

West Berlin ceased to exist upon the fall of East Germany: There is only Berlin.

Or this:

A police spokesman points out Berlin’s ever-worsening ultraviolent ghettos on a map www (dot) youtube (dot) com/watch?v=2CbXjKCJLAg. In a few decades, he won’t need to be so precise and can just wave in the general direction of Berlin. The operative word is demographics - a concept alien to German Leftists, who suffer from a severe case of innumeracy.

Pete Williams said because these were found in a separate investigation, the FBI must get warrants for the these emails. Comey was probably just doing due diligence in informing congress, but Chaffetz decided to go nuclear.

What happens to gun sales if Trump wins?

From the first 5 responses:

“Needs to repeal the NFA rules so we all can buy full auto suppressed belt feds.”

“Sales level off. Still need defense against the ferals.”

“Depends on whether the SJW’s decide that rioting is in order. The more violent they become, the faster guns sell.”

There you have it in a nutcaseshell: Legal machine guns and fear of liberal violence will keep the business healthy.

What’s useful for the goose is good for the gosling?

Libertarian Johnson seizes on FBI’s new Clinton probe

Libertarian Gary Johnson seized Friday on the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s decision to investigate new emails as part of its probe into Hillary Clinton’s private server, saying voters deserve an honest presidential candidate with integrity.

The FBI’s decision comes 11 days before Election Day and offered Johnson a chance before and during a scheduled campaign rally Friday at Cobo Center to remind voters that they have a choice beyond Clinton, a Democrat, and Republican rival Donald Trump.

“Integrity, honesty and treating all Americans with dignity are actually important,” Johnson said in a statement ahead of the 6 p.m. rally in Detroit. “Is it too much to ask that our president should possess those minimum qualifications?”

Updated: Trump in Manchester: System ‘might not be as rigged as I thought’

Shortly after news surfaced that the FBI is reviewing new emails related to its investigation of Hillary Clinton’s personal email server, an obviously pumped up Donald Trump took the stage at the Radisson Hotel on Friday afternoon.

The system “might not be as rigged as I thought,” the Republican presidential nominee told the big crowd that had waited several hours to see him.

[…]

This “bombshell” (the term used in the article) also provides Drumpfskind a way to leverage his “rigged” allegation in two ways:
1) if the FBI director is forced to come out and walk back any allegations, that will provide proof for Drumpfskind that the system is “rigged”.
2) if this “bombshell” keeps exploding, then all that brouhaha over Drumpfskind not accepting the election results fades in the background and Drumpfskind can take credit for forcing the issue of EMAILS! to the front which forced the FBI to further investigate.

It’s win-win scenario for Drumpfskind.

Politico runs this story at 5:38PM (eastern?), hours after more information is available:

Clinton can no longer coast to the win

Now the whole story is written as an anti-Hillary polemic, and the whistle went out and the comments show the dregs of the internet.

My point is - Politico when it was created and in its own explanation of its purpose, was explicitly intended to generate controversy. Politico in this regards was just a notch more honest, or at least more revealing, as to why it was created. It was created to generate heat, not light.

It never was going to be easy or as simple as coasting. I just don’t see this as a huge game changer. Maybe it will be closer than it otherwise would have been but I just don’t see it convincing enough people to go over Trump’s way. Maybe if he had presented himself as a serious candidate but he hasn’t done that.
