What the actual fuck is this crap?

A Miami school is not allowing teachers who are vaccinated to teach in person.

The Centner Academy, a fee-paying school, is located in Miami’s Design District. Annual tuition begins at $15,160 (£10,898) for pre-school students and goes up to nearly $30,000 for middle school students, who are around 13-15 years old.

Co-founder Leila Centner informed parents on Monday that, when possible, the academy’s policy is to not employ anyone who has received a Covid-19 vaccine at this time, CBS Miami reported.

In a letter last week to staff, first reported by the New York Times, Mrs Centner said teachers must notify the school if they had already received the jab.

“We cannot allow recently vaccinated people to be near our students until more information is known,” Mrs Centner wrote.

Teachers who wait to get vaccinated after the school year ends will be allowed to return only when clinical trials on the vaccine are completed, assuming a position at the school is still available.

Mrs Centner also repeated a false claim of vaccinated individuals affecting unvaccinated people, saying three women in the school’s community had their menstrual cycles “impacted after having spent time with a vaccinated person”.

These people are fucking lunatics who don’t understand facts, logic, science, statistics, and have no business educating anyone, except as an example of what not to do.

Forget it, Jake. It’s Wingnuttia.

Seriously, the lady in question looks like she must be an anti-vaxxer nutjob. She believes that vaccinated people magically radiate evil juju that will harm a woman’s lady parts. It’s so far beyond stupid it makes even my head hurt all the way over here.

“…In her letter to teachers last week and a second note sent to parents on Monday, the school’s co-founder alluded to misinformation about the vaccines’ impact on fertility and menstruation in women and girls and inaccurately suggested that vaccinated individuals “may be transmitting something” to unvaccinated people. Experts agree that vaccinated people cannot “shed” the vaccines and spread their effects to unvaccinated individuals.

None of the coronavirus vaccines approved for use in the United States have been linked to infertility, miscarriages or any other adverse impact on women’s reproductive health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends pregnant women get a coronavirus vaccine, after observing “no safety concerns” among 35,000 women vaccinated during their third trimester. All of their babies were also healthy following the vaccinations, according to the CDC.”

“…David and Leila Centner identify themselves as “health freedom advocates,” and their school has posted guidance to help parents file for exemptions to state-required vaccinations. In late January, they invited Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a prominent anti-vaccine advocate, to speak at the school.

Two prominent anti-vaccine advocates also publicly endorsed the school’s decision on Monday and said they have relatives enrolled at the Centner Academy.”

April 27, 1944 In Labor History: FDR Seized The Sh*t Out Of Montgomery Ward (Wonkette)

On April 27, 1944, Attorney General Francis Biddle arrived in Chicago to order Montgomery Ward head Sewell Avery to either extend his workers’ union contract so they would not strike during the war, or have his company seized and run by the American government. When Avery refused, Biddle had the military physically remove Avery from Montgomery Ward offices, and the process began that led to the government seizing the workplace. This remarkable incident shows just how hostile some corporate heads were to unions, even to help win the war.

Many corporate heads originally embraced the New Deal, in particular the National Recovery Administration, because it offered a government-led solution to the problem of over-competition without really forcing them to give up most control over their daily decisions. The Blue Eagle, at least under the pro-corporate NRA chief General Hugh Johnson, was amenable to many corporations. But not all. The corporate fundamentalist ideology was that any government interference was a massive violation of liberty. A minority of corporate leaders held to this position no matter how far the economy had fallen.

The fascinating story continues at the link. I was unaware of this action against Montgomery Ward’s CEO during WW2.

I know there was a Florida attorney who encouraged Florida Republicans to lie about their address and vote in the Georgia runoffs.

Secretary Raffensperger Launches Investigation of Florida Attorney Looking to Fraudulently Register and Vote in Georgia’s Runoff Election (Georgia Secretary of State Website)

(ATLANTA) - Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is investigating a Florida lawyer who was caught on tape planning to - and encouraging 2 million others to - move to Georgia before the January 5 Senate runoff elections and to register and cast a ballot. Only true Georgia residents can register to vote and cast a ballot in elections in Georgia.

“Make no mistake, individuals who attempt to undermine the integrity of Georgia’s elections will be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” said Secretary Raffensperger. “Those who move to Georgia just to vote in the Senate runoffs with no intention of staying are committing a felony that is punishable with jailtime and hefty fines. They will be found, they will be investigated, and they will be punished.”

During a November 7 speech to the Bay County Florida Republican Party, Florida Attorney Bill Price said he was moving to Georgia and moving in with his brother in order to register to vote and cast a ballot in the January 5 Senate runoff elections. He exhorted those in attendance to be “his roommate in Georgia” and also register to vote fraudulently in the state.

The Secretary of State’s office has launched an investigation of Bill Price’s actions. He attempted to register to vote fraudulently, but his registration is still in pending status.

Secretary Raffensperger has issued warnings repeatedly against individuals looking to move to Georgia solely to cast ballots in the Senate runoffs. Raffensperger recently announced investigations into third-party organizations soliciting registrations from dead or out-of-state voters. He has also warned that groups that are looking to help others move to Georgia to vote fraudulently could possibly be prosecuted as well.

Sears was an online pioneer as they began online sales via Prodigy. The problem was they never figured out how to make this work for them. Amazon got the online sales/distribution and lost tons doing this before figuring out the volume model, but now needs brick/mortar locations to distribute from (and former Sears, JCP, and KMart locations all look like prime spots to make distribution work).

I was working for Sears at the tower when Prodigy was a thing. Some people were very excited about online marketing, but the leaders botched it.

re: #57 lawhawk

Sears was an online pioneer as they began online sales via Prodigy. The problem was they never figured out how to make this work for them.

Sears, like every other existing retail business, saw the internet as an adjunct to their existing business with its billions of dollars of land, trucks, distribution centres, retail stores, sales offices etc. The internet was just a method to get a few percent more customers and a few percent more sales. Basically they saw the internet as an extension to their mail order services — remember the days when you’d fill in a form out of the back of a paper catalogue and mail it off in a postage paid reply envelope? Something like that but electronicky.

Jeff Bezos saw the internet as the basis and underpinning of what Amazon was to become, no land or distribution centres (to start with), no retail stores and sales staff, just wires and servers and automation up the wazoo and no envelopes. He was right, they were wrong and they kept on being wrong while Amazon made billions in losses each year for a decade or more as they grew the company at an explosive rate. Now it’s Amazon and The Seven Dwarves and Bezos is funding a space program out of his spare change jar.

Sears didn’t even seriously try to compete online. They had all these catalog fulfillment centers that could have been Amazon, but they shut down catalog just as other people were building the Internet. That failure to see where we were going doomed Sears.

In concept, I agree with the idea of an NFT and the ability to copyright and authenticate a digital work of art. I think, however, that using the blockchain to do this authentication is a terrible idea and that the implementation of NFT’s is seriously flawed. Ideally, it would be something woven into the technology, such that the digital certificate of authenticity is actually that - something that only the creator of said piece can validate, similar to a public/private encryption key (which is a hell of a lot cheaper). Currently, anyone can slap an NFT on something, if they have a bitcoin mining rig, and call it “theirs”.

It would be persistent, which means it could/would be passed on as part of the estate. My take on it is from the perspective of an artist; a painter gets copyright of his works and exclusive licensing to sell his individual paintings as he sees fit. Why should that not apply for someone who spends many hours laboring over, say, a computer animation?

I agree with the original intent of copyright: A limited time license to foster creativity. I’m not going to argue over the flaws of the current copyright law, but without some way of getting a return on the time you put into creating a work, there’s little incentive to put in the work. It’s not just the artificial scarcity of reproduction that’s at play here.

Farming Robot Kills 100,000 Weeds per Hour With Lasers

A person can weed about one acre of crops a day. This smart robot can weed 20.

The farming robot looks like a large cube on wheels.

As it drives itself down rows of crops, its 12 cameras scan the ground. An onboard computer, powered by AI, identifies weeds, and the robot’s carbon dioxide lasers then zap and kill the plants.

The Autonomous Weeder can eliminate more than 100,000 weeds per hour and weed 15 to 20 acres of crops in one day — for comparison, Myers said a laborer can weed about one acre of his onions per day.

Because he wasn’t charged with sedition or insurrection, he was charged essentially with trespassing and interrupting/preventing official proceedings. You don’t hold someone indefinitely without bail unless the prosecution can prove he is a continuing danger. The judge decided the note he left didn’t meet the threshold. Bail isn’t punitive it is just supposed to make sure the guy shows up for trial.

There’s an Apple blogger I read frequently who covers other stuff besides Apple. You could comfortably describe him as liberal for the most part.

The last month he’s had a huge bug up his ass about getting the CDC, the feds, etc., to rescind wearing masking outdoors in public. He and his family have been vaccinated, so that’s driving a lot of it. The guy was not a COVIDiot or anything, and was really pushing mask wearing this time last year.

If I’m parsing his complaints right, if you meet certain criteria (vaccinated, still practicing a modicum of social distancing, etc.), you shouldn’t be require to wear a mask. The guy hasn’t crossed into Tucker Carlson territory yet, but goddamn, it’s close.

I’m like, “I’ll wear the mask until December until the CDC makes a sound rational decision.”

I just don’t get people. Dude lives in Philly but roots for the Yankees and the Cowboys, so he obviously has his issues.

re: #115 Dangerman

even if the cdc says when vaccinated you may not ‘have to’ if you’re willing to take the risk, that doesn’t mean you cant or shouldn’t

seat belts and air bags
sunscreen and a hat
an awful lot of folks wear belt and suspenders (ok maybe bad example)
wtf is wrong with these people?

It’s a mask. It’s a piece of paper or cloth. At this point, it should take you 2 seconds to put it on and be second nature to wear it if you’re not doing anything strenuous. Just wear the goddamn thing until there’s a valid reason not to. It’s the least you can do for your unvaccinated fellow man.

I’m with him, based on the science outdoor mask use unless you are in a large crowd never made any sense. Some people say a simple one rule “always wear a mask outside of your house” is simple and easy to understand. IMO unwarranted draconian rules make it less likely people will follow the reasonable effective rules.

walking up and down the aisles of walmart or publix, or a bar or mall, how can anyone else tell by looking at you that you’re vaccinated?

collectively, we’re not near the finish line yet.
until then, there has to be one simple, consistent, easy to follow, non intrusive rule for everyone. that’s how we get closer

With that, on further review, it turns out that meat is lacking in the carbohydrates that ferment into alcohol. That doesn’t mean it can’t be done, but only that it’s going to be a lot more complicated (basically, figuring out how to digest the proteins and fats into simple sugars, that can then be fermented).

If it was only about guns they’d spend time at the rifle range. No, this is about killing and hanging parts of the things they killed on walls.

Not exactly meat based though.

So while it is technically possible, the point still stands that Kudlow is a fucking idiot because that’s clearly not what he was referring to.

April 27, 1944 In Labor History: FDR Seized The Sh*t Out Of Montgomery Ward (Wonkette)

The fascinating story continues at the link. I was unaware of this action against Montgomery Ward’s CEO during WW2.

The photo of Sewell getting carried out by soldiers while still sitting in his chair is iconic. Think I first saw it in a book of photos published in Life Magazine.

Brewmasters and distillers all over the U.S. are going to rise to the challenge.

I can certainly see adding meat flavor to alcohol easily enough, although yuck. But actually using meat as the base to ferment would require some serious enzyme additives.

Bakon Vodka, made from potatoes.

Rogue Brewing has done that, with bacon.

Okay, serious question. I’m asking here because I’ve seen the incredible and esoteric knowledge the Lizard community possesses. Can one make alcohol from meat?

Not from meat but it was used as a flavoring agent.

No one had ice cold meat beer on their 2021 menu.

I thought it needed to be heated to an internal temp of at least 160 degrees Fahrenheit…

What the actual fuck is this crap?

A Miami school is not allowing teachers who are vaccinated to teach in person.

These people are fucking lunatics who don’t understand facts, logic, science, statistics, and have no business educating anyone, except as an example of what not to do.

The online information about this institution is very confusing, unless it’s a different institution — it looks more like a place where Marianne Williamson would find a home, not members of the Trump cult.

Happy Bday. I haven’t made my Target pickup run yet today but that usually results in me coming home with a Raisin’ Cain’s chicken fingers box meal. I’m lucky that they’re too far away to visit without the Target run.
