Folks, I have a request.

You may have noticed that a lot of things are getting more expensive, and LGF’s web hosting is no exception. For the first time in a long time, the blog fund is falling short of our monthly charges by about $200. So I’m asking you (again, for the first time in a long time), if you can spare any coins to help keep the lights on at LGF, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for anything you can contribute.

Attention-seeking idiot gets convicted.

Katie Sorensen, a 31-year-old mom influencer, was convicted on one count of making a false report of a crime after she claimed a couple tried to kidnap her children at a Michael’s store in Petaluma, California, in December 2020.

On December 7, Sorensen took her kids to Michael’s, made a purchase, got into her car with her children, and left the parking lot, according to the Sonoma County District Attorney’s press release. Shortly after, she called and reported to the Petaluma Police Department that a couple had tried to kidnap her kids. A week later, she posted a video to Instagram, which subsequently went viral, discussing the attempted kidnapping “in an effort to raise awareness” and gave viewers more detail than she’d originally given to police, according to the press release. (Sorensen’s Instagram account is currently private, but snippets of the video have been reposted across social media). Sorensen also appeared on local news, reiterating the false claim that a couple had tried to abduct her children and describing the perpetrators as not “necessarily clean cut.”

When police followed up with Sorensen, she identified a local couple from the craft store’s footage as the perpetrators.

Following an investigation, however, Sorensen was charged with three misdemeanor counts of making a false crime report — to a police dispatcher, to a police officer, and to a police detective.

During her trial, Sonoma County prosecutors successfully argued that Sorenson’s story was false, and the jury returned a guilty verdict on one count of reporting a false crime. (She was acquitted on two other related charges).

A mom influencer with QAnon leanings was convicted of lying about an attempted kidnapping of her kids (Insider)

But today at the Brookings Institution, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan outlined a very different vision of the global economy and American economic leadership. First of all, just the fact this happened is significant: Sullivan is a national security advisor, and he was talking about economics. He outlined how Biden’s “core commitment,” “his daily direction” is “to integrate domestic policy and foreign policy.”

I found this to be a very interesting column, about a topic of global significance that I just have not heard about.

Instead of confronting him and holding him accountable, they just buried it while giving him a platform.

I really hate the media sometimes for magic balance fairying every-fucking-thing.

The Post is the one who reported this. They spin this as somehow flattering liberals or otherwise encouraging libs to vote for RFK.

I see it as malicious cover for allowing a known antivaxxer to have an undeserved platform to spread toxic BS. Right wingers are hoping RFK peels off voters from Biden to enabler a GOPer to win the WH in 2024.

“…I realized that even the law firms who were Jane’s clients had nowhere to go. They were being asked by the spouse of the chief justice for business worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, and there was no one to complain to. Most of these firms were likely appearing or seeking to appear before the Supreme Court. It’s natural that they’d do anything they felt was necessary to be competitive.”

Donated. Don’t be a stranger.

Earnings were mostly good. GDP was positive but only 1%. Stock prices move essentially randomly with an upward bias over the short term. Housing numbers were pretty awful this week and lumber is trading at post covid lows. Still lots of headwinds. I think that a recession happens this year. Hopefully it won’t be long lasting.

They put peas in guacamole. Because green is green, right?

The only problem with that on a shirt here in Texas is most people wouldn’t get it. I have two shirts with politics on them. I notice that only about 5% of all people even read shirts with words. And then it splits about half vetween those that like it and those that wish they hadn’t read it.

re: #264 mmmirele

The Fed kept wires open until 19:30* today, apparently in an attempt to stave off the collapse of First Republic Bank, but apparently that’s not going to work and the FDIC is preparing to take the bank over. First Republic’s stock dropped 43 percent today (lost $2.68, closing at $3.51) and is apparently still dropping in after market trading.

*Normal closing time is 19:00 ET.

so when the FDIC moves in, what does that mean to the ordinary depositor? Are my automatic paymentsfor my insurance premiums, or my Hulu subscription, still going to go through? Will my ATM card still work the same?

re: #284 Nerdy Fish

It says “wanker.” If you don’t know what that is, it is a (primarily British) derogatory slang word.

the British word wanker translate to the American is jerkoff.
