Trump can’t simultaneously be a dementia addled incoherent liar and keen purposeful orator. That the MAGAs interpret it in some other way is not my problem. The MAGAs don’t matter in this election. It’s about the independent voters.

I never said he was keen and purposeful, and he is an incoherent liar. Yet the fact remains that he has a habit, formed over decades, of speaking in mob code. There’s nothing subtle or clever about it, but the public has decided to grade it on a curve for reasons I can’t understand and pretend that we can’t ascertain the true meaning of stuff like this.

Hint: when Henry Hill says in Goodfellas that you just “light a match” he was talking about insurance fraud. It isn’t a requirement for him to say that explicitly. We got it from the context.
