Europe has Socialism for all

The US just has Socialism for the rich and corporations.

Everyone hates socialism until they need it.

I’m thinking of the wealthy suburbanites around here who get a significant property tax break for growing hay on their 25 acre ranchettes.

So after the February eruption created a lava flow that ran over the main road that goes down to Grindavik, Iceland decided to plow through the still cooling lava and make an operable road (though I believe there were minimum speed requirements to make sure rubber tires did not melt.)

Well, tonight that repaved road went up in smoke:

Reykjanes volcano 16 Mar 2024

Meanwhile, another lava flow is heading for Grindavik itself:

Reykjanes volcano 16 Mar 2024

The lava is piling up at a berm. In the foreground is lava from the January eruption, the greenhouse that survived because of its local berm, and then you can see workers’ lights on the berm farther East that is currently holding back the latest lava.

Supposedly today’s eruption came from a nearly 4 kilometer long set of fissures, and the flow was the largest yet. That’s why there are flows of lava both south to Grindavik, east to an empty field, and west over the road and eventually piling up by the geothermal power plant.

Icelanders are working hard to save their little port town, but I suspect by the time this period of eruptions complete (in a few decades?) that the Reykjanes peninsula will have changed.

It’s been a drone kind of news week-

1. Confirmation that Langley Air Force Base has been buzzed by unidentified drones for the past 3 months.
The Warzone:Mysterious Drones Swarmed Langley AFB For Weeks

2. The attacks on Russian Petroleum Industry facilities discussed earlier.

3. Reported drone attack on Russia’s Buturlinovka Airfield

UKikaski Xitter post
Last night, unknown mystery drones reportedly attacked the Russian Buturlinovka Airfield (50.793132, 40.609030) in Voronezh Oblast, Russia, which appears to be home to a fleet of Su-34’s.

4. Russian National detained in Moscow

Reuters:Russian national detained in Moscow for launching drones for Ukraine
MOSCOW, March 15 (Reuters) - Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Friday that a Russian national had been detained in Moscow on suspicion of treason and had confessed to assembling and launching drones on behalf of Ukraine.

5. ” “Mark my words - in six months to a year, both sides will begin to produce enough FPVs to target every single soldier”

(Quoting Ukrainian expert on drone warfare Serhii Flesh)

Bendett Xitter post

Ukraine’s Sergyi Flesh: “Mark my words - in six months to a year, both sides will begin to produce enough FPVs to target every single soldier - all will be detected and destroyed day and night in a zone of up to 5-8 km. All infantry will retreat underground, and all surface activity will belong to ground robots.”

6. Myanmar drones
January Guardian article: ‘We killed many … drones are our air force’: Myanmar’s rebels take on the junta from above

A rebel drone squadron drawn from engineering students and hobbyists, who gain battlefield training partly through YouTube tutorials, is proving decisive in the struggle against Myanmar’s brutal military government

As the drones flew silently over western Myanmar’s Chin hills, the junta did not know what was about to hit them. Their operators were hidden a few hundred metres away in the dense forest. As the images on their screens indicated the drone fleet was hovering exactly above the target - a key military base in the town of Lailenpi - they hit the button on their controllers and bombs began to fall.

“We had precise hits,” said Noah, 20, one of the specialist drone fighters in the Chin National Army (CNA), one of the ethnic rebel groups who have been fighting Myanmar’s military for almost three years. “It took them by surprise. We killed many, including the second-in-command of the base.”

Very True

And of course the MAGAts will be pushing Iran and Saudi to raise oil prices. Fortunately, we are among the top producers of petroleum, if not the top producer and exporter.

This could also affect grain supply. Fortunately, we are again among the top, if not the top producer and exporter in food. Including grain.

As usual, the poor countries of the world are the ones who are most likely to feel the effects. And to lack the infrastructure needed to allow timely delivery and distribution of aid and support.

OTOH, if Russia achieves hegemony over Ukraine, Russia will control 30% of the world’s grain supply.

Are the drumbeats of war getting louder?

There is going to be a limit to what Ukraine can do, without greater support from the US and NATO.

Putin is not so much a mystery as he is an immovable object.

This war is about resources, papered over with religion and revanchism.

What will happen if the US gives Ukraine the ability to totally eliminate the Russian Black Sea fleet?

That will get Putin’s attention for sure.

I suspect that is a question that will have to be answered before the November election.

Also, it sounds like the Biden Administration and a bunch of other NATO members are getting tired of Orban’s crap. Particularly since Orban dived into the middle of US internal politics.

Reuters:US envoy warns over Hungary’s ‘close and expanding’ links with Russia
BUDAPEST, March 14 (Reuters) - NATO allies are warning Hungary of the dangers of its “close and expanding” relationship with Russia and if this is Budapest’s policy choice “we will have to decide how best to protect our security interests”, the U.S. envoy to Hungary said on Thursday.

Relations between Budapest and Washington have soured because of Hungary’s foot-dragging over the ratification of Sweden’s NATO accession - finally passed by Budapest last month - and also over nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s warm ties with Moscow despite the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“These legitimate security concerns - shared by Hungary’s 31 allies - cannot be ignored,” U.S. Ambassador David Pressman said in a speech marking the 25th anniversary of Hungary’s membership in the NATO military alliance.

I think that you are correct. And not only the US , but all of Europe as well.

My guess is that what Macron is trying to do is get Europe to agree on a unified approach to Russia. One that includes the possibility of armed force and one that would work in the event of tfg getting elected. It requires agreement as to what Russian-Ukrainian War outcomes are unacceptable.

This all under the theory “We possibly could be hanged together. But we will most certainly be hanged separately.”

Germany is a bit of a weak link because of its WW2 legacy and the cover the US has provided it until now. Europe is going to have to agree, 80 years after WW2, what they find acceptable regarding the Germans and military action.

Biden response to bloodbath

Wonder if this will have any impact on Latino votes? How will anyone of them prove they are American citizen when millions are being rounded up?

They won’t, that will be the point. They’re going to get grabbed by cops and state troopers who are under pressure to make quotas, tossed in overcrowded cells while they await their turn in front of a judge, and any documentation they have on them confiscated and labeled “fake.” Keep that last part in mind every time your racist uncle asserts that an “illegal” can get a US birth certificate for a few pesos at a bodega in Tijuana, then pick up a driver’s license and government check in Los Angeles.

Don’t look for these sorts of ads yet on MSM. They are all over social media, etc. Over half a million people have seen several of the Biden-Harris HQ ads (Ie the bloodbath, etc.) at Twitter in the last 5 hours.

There are also several regular ads that are on youtube, threads, instagram and other outlets. He is hitting the places where the youngsters are. The ads for the oldsters take a little more time to get through the MSM sausage but they are coming. I read there is a $30 million ad buy on the way.

Here is an example of what they are doing. I hitnk it is brutal even as it is an incredible story:

I used to have friendly arguments with my wife about the realism of The Siege. I felt that it was a fun movie but we would never see something like that in the US.

Now millions of Americans are following a tyrant who wants to make this scene a reality:

Fuck them all. We will never allow this to happen.

Seriously, which sounds more realistic: A guy from Eastern Europe applies for a work visa through his local consulate, flies into JFK on his way to his new job in the States, overstays the 90 day grace period after he gets fired from said job, and yet avoids the deportation process for several years until his driver’s license comes up for renewal?

OR

Same guy flies to Mexico, then spends thousands of dollars and risks his life to sneak into the US without proper documentation so he can work in unskilled labor for money under the table knowing that at any time he could get ratted out to immigration by his “employer”?

Biden is already having an effective, IMHO, rapid response effort. They have out videos every day within hours or minutes of Trump saying it. Same with the White House response to something like the bloodbath comment.

They are getting this stuff out before there is any time for a response fromn the oither side. This all makes it easier gtom lazy MSM guys to ask any Republicans about say the bloodbath comment by asking for a reaction the the WH.

I think the ad blitz that is going to hit in the next few months will be awesome.

Community defense organizations need to build a viable drone force, and train with it, by election day.

They also need to practice drone defense, including detection, jamming and capture, and low tech solutions like nets and birdshot.
The proper use of drones could be a decisive advantage in the “disturbances” that are sure to follow a Trump defeat. There would be exceptions of course, but Trumpite vigilantes and insurrectionists are just not tempermentally

Not sure if Jews would be targeted given the religious background of his Son-in-Law and his favorite daughter-wife. Plus, The evil clown pushing all of this, Stephen Miller, is himself Jewish. This will me targeted against those from sh*thole countries in Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America.
Trump isn’t going to target White immigrants like his wife.

They’ll be allowed to pick from two options: Conversion to the “truth faith” or deportation to their “homeland” of Israel, so that when they’re kicking people as white a Klansman’s sheets out, they can stress that they gave them a “choice” and any who refused obviously aren’t “true Americans.”

It is reported that Trump’s new sober tone is due to a shocking study warning that 2 million Americans could die if no measures are taken to slow infection. On this day, the death toll is 105.
Four years later, despite many measures taken, 1.1 million Americans have died of Covid 19.

A couple months ago, this one couple checked in and the husband brought up the election and asked me if I looked forward to Trump being back in the WH again. Since I was at work I couldn’t tell him more than “No,” and he asked me why not because “everything was cheaper!” When I pointed out that everything was “cheaper” because everybody was out of work, he mumbled about how that was just COVID and then walked off.

I used to have friendly arguments with my wife about the realism of The Siege. I felt that it was a fun movie but we would never see something like that in the US.

Now millions of Americans are following a tyrant who wants to make this scene a reality:

[Embedded content]

Video

Fuck them all. We will never allow this to happen.

Reminds me of the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Santiago, Chile. It was used as a site for mass imprisonment, torture and murder during the Pinochet dictatorship after the 1973 coup.

And to be blunt, I am reminded that people left Chile to avoid getting killed, but that there were extraterritorial executions, including that of Orlando Letelier and his coworker Ronni Moffitt. The execution of Letelier was ordered by Pinochet. It is also strongly believed that poet Pablo Neruda’s death is very suspicious and should be investigated.

This is the kind of thing that could happen here. It’s crazy not to admit the possibility exists there is a list of people that people like Stephen Miller want to round up.

Now folks, perhaps we’re looking at this all wrong. I mean really, Trump could tell folks about all the great things that happened back in 2020 that they’ve forgotten:

- The weeks/months long vacations they got from their jobs!

- Everybody suddenly visiting their relatives in the hospital!

- Parents getting to spend more time with their kids at home!

- The economy doing so great that basic goods flew off the shelves!

- The public suddenly showing care and support to service sector employees!

- And oil prices so low that we had to beg the Saudis and Russians to cut production!

Trump’s words:

“We’re going to put a 100% tariff on every single car that comes across the line, and you’re not going to be able to sell those guys if I get elected. Now, if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole - that’s gonna be the least of it. It’s going to be a bloodbath for the country. That’ll be the least of it.”

The bloodbath was basically in context of the auto industry and the economy as a whole. I think we need to be careful in extending comments to more than their intended meaning, because we lose credibility.

IOW, the sort of low-information voters who listened to the MAGAts in their social circle screaming about how Obama said white people “cling to guns and religion” or that Hillary said anybody who supported Trump belonged in a “basket of deplorables”…and couldn’t be bothered to look into the context of those statements but instead took them at face value.

Sorry. Trump is incoherent. I do not see it as in the context of the economy as a whole. He said that he would put 100% tariffs on cars from China if elected. And if not elected it would be a bloodbath. For the whole country. How in the world does that follow? If there are not 100% tariffs on the cars, there will be a bloodbath? No, he was not clear at all and the context is negligible, IMHO.

Making excuses for his incoherence, trying to interpolate what he really means is not our job.

Sometimes, we outsmart ourselves. At this point, we have to use every tool in our possession. War is hell and lots of bad shit happens during a war. Sometimes we have to be lawyerly rather than fully honest. Sometimes we have to resort to rhetorical tools that are more logical fallacies than we would prefer. This is a relatively minor kerfuffle and will likely not result in anyone’s death. Not like Trump’s rhetoric.

And remember, we are all on the same side trying to accomplish the same thing. We may not always agree on the tactics but we must keep our eyes on the prize - destroy Trump as a viable candidate and break the GOP into pieces. We do this and America can move on.

Yep. and the response if anyone brings up context should be that Trump is very unclear with what he says and what he means. Followed by some real examples. Politics is not always fair and it is not our job to interpret the tea leaves about what he REALLY means. He needs to be clear so people do not get confused. Isn’t that what we want in a President?

1. Doesn’t need a significant portion of the voting population to affect the outcome: a change of fewer than 80,000 votes in 2016 would have led to a Clinton Presidency and a change of about 40,000 votes in 2020 would have led to re-election of Trump.
2. The issue isn’t that someone would research Trump’s statements — it’s that they would be subjected to Trump ads disputing those remarks or articles directly “refuting” the statements and the result would be like me with the current state’s attorney race in Illinois: dueling ads that attack the other candidate and I ignore both sides.
3. However, I do have to say that if the ad directly shows the video of the candidate saying something, it has more weight, even if the quote is taken out of context.

But that’s not really an argument about credibility, it’s an argument about attention spans. If a voter’s first instinct when met with opposing views from two parties is to tune them both out because they can’t be bothered to decide who is right and who is wrong, then it doesn’t really matter if you lie your ass off or not because they’re not listening.

I appreciate your viewpoint. It is people like you who will keep us from falling too far down tha rabbit hole in combattig MAGA and become the monsters we fight. As to your points, we are not fighting the same battles as 2016 or 2020. Dobbs and the GOP House have changed things a lot. As have demographics. This has been going on for a while now, on and off. Civilian GPS around Kaliningrad is being jammed, with hundreds of flights going through the area.

Any airliner has multiple navigation systems running, including inertial navigation, so the nav system will notice the problem and give the pilots a warning while retaining a pretty good location estimate. However, this is an electronic warfare attack, and a real potential risk if something else happens on one of these flights.

I appreciate that the GOP is essentially making the ads for us as we go along. I’m not saying that we’re going to change the minds of many that have been caught in the webs of Newsmax and Faux News because they’ll never see any bad press about Trump and many of them by this time will call it a hoax.

What these do accomplish is that they take those short attention span theatre types that tune into CNN once every couple of weeks and expose them to shit that Trump (and other GOP candidates) actually says. I’m sure that a good number of them may still discount what they see and hear, yet the young vote is still coming out Democratic in outlook and Dobbs has pissed off a lot of people (and continues to do so and the GOP is STILL stepping on that rake) and post COVID, they’ve killed off a significant number of their voters. Couple that with a strong recovery, the GOP coming after your SS and Medicare and screwing Ukraine and refusing to deal with guns, reneging on their own border deal… if none of that suits anyone with a pragmatic bone in their body, then guess what, they are so flawed a person that what is the likelihood that they can even be bothered to fill out a ballot?

I think the “bloodbath” context is that of the auto industry but the context of January 6th where he told his followers to march on the Capitol: “We’re going to walk down there and I’ll be with you” is clear.

91
Targetpractice  Mar 17, 2024 • 3:03:31am

To me, if the question is one of credibility, then the answer is simple: Trump has none. It’s not 2016, it’s not even 2020, the man has been nattering on without a filter for nearly a decade now. If you’re someone who still believes that anything you hear about him should be treated with skepticism and would think negatively of someone who told you something he said without context…then what’s it like living at the bottom of the ocean?

I honestly find it more realistic that there are tens or hundreds of thousands of Repub voters who can be coaxed into voting Dem or staying home than I’m willing to believe that there is an appreciable number of fence sitters who are willing to believe that Donald Trump still deserves the benefit of the doubt.

When it comes to the “bloodbath” comment, I don’t think the context matters very much. Regardless of what he’s talking about, the subtext is clear: It’s a threat. “Vote for me, or something very bad will happen to this country.” Regardless of whether it’s physical violence or economic ruin, that’s mob boss talk. An actual presidential candidate should not be out there saying, “Vote for me, or else,” regardless of what the “or else” is.

Another semi-frequent FYI from the dude chilling at your hotel’s front desk: Ask for a late check-out no later than the night before you need it, do not wait until the morning of check-out assuming that they’ll grant you one if you just ask. Keep this saying in mind: “A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.”

Perhaps it’s something that goes with having a brain that functions above the brain stem, but I always have most of my stuff packed the night before, so that I have time the next morning to make sure the things not packed are ready to go long before check-out. It’s fair for President Biden to say, “Vote for me or the alternative will be the end of democracy as we know it.” That’s not fear mongering given what Trump (and his supporters) has promised to do should Americans be deranged enough to reelect him.

Because of my long-standing habit of being a morning person, when I do go to a hotel, I am usually packed up and ready to leave before the place starts serving breakfast. Even if I plan on staying in the area past checkout time - which has frequently happened when I take my solo vacations - I’ll just load my stuff up in the car and go find a public park or something to hang out at until I’m ready to head home. The sense of entitlement some people have, especially as regards staying in a hotel, is mind-boggling.

If you’re someone who scrambles at the last moment to get things out of the room so you don’t get charged, then you’re an idiot and an asshole.

Even when we were still with Marriott, it said clearly on the benefits charts “Based upon availability,” i.e. at the manager’s discretion. 30+ departures in a single day? Not a fuckin’ chance.

Remember when the line was “Facts, not feelings”? When you could be sure that, in any argument with a conservative, they’d dig through a pile of pig shit to find some decade old report to “prove” to you that pools were more dangerous to kids than guns? Or find some obscure medical journal that had published a report saying that cigarette smoking was less hazardous than bungee-jumping?

Ever since 2016, it’s “I just KNOW that it’s more dangerous in my neighborhood than it used to be!”

I think the “bloodbath” context is that of the auto industry but the context of January 6th where he told his followers to march on the Capitol: “We’re going to walk down there and I’ll be with you” is clear.

The normalization of violent rhetoric has been Trump’s MO for a long time and has been increasing. Normalizing his frequent usage of words or phrases containing “blood”, “killing”, “vermin” is preparing his cult to act on their worst impulses and dehumanize others so his dictatorship can take hold. What’s more is that he also consistently praises his own ability to evade law, taxes and regulation giving his followers an understanding they too should follow his example.

Just bought this set of coffee tables for the living room.

While the wife was still alive she needed room to maneuver her electric mobility chair around the first floor, so we got rid of the coffee table that was taking up a large part of the floor space in the living room. Since she passed at the beginning of the year I have been thinking of getting a new one. Saw these nesting ones and they will be perfect. Don’t take up a lot of space and also act as 2 separate pieces if needed.

There’s enough real stuff to hang around Trump’s neck that we shouldn’t need to take things out of context. Is taking things out of context helpful in this situation? If so then do it; all’s fair in love and war and politics. I’m just not sure that it’s helpful in this case.

re: #92 Nerdy Fish

When it comes to the “bloodbath” comment, I don’t think the context matters very much. Regardless of what he’s talking about, the subtext is clear: It’s a threat. “Vote for me, or something very bad will happen to this country.” Regardless of whether it’s physical violence or economic ruin, that’s mob boss talk. An actual presidential candidate should not be out there saying, “Vote for me, or else,” regardless of what the “or else” is.

Bloodbath is commonly used in finance to describe a major selloff. If you search Bloomberg or WSJ for the term you’ll find plenty examples of it from times of financial crisis. Using it in terms of the auto industry makes sense from that perspective, though I think that he’s completely wrong about it.

Sex, Lies, and Murder: GOP Candidate’s Former In-Law Goes Scorched Earth on Her

Elizabeth Helgelien’s ex-mother-in-law torched her in a scathing op-ed on Wednesday, accusing her of being a liar and adulterer who “raised a murderer.”

A wild feud between a rising GOP star and the mom of her late ex-husband erupted into public view on Wednesday when candidate Elizabeth Helgelien’s infuriated former mother-in-law accused the MAGA-centric Nevada politician of being a liar and an adulterer.

Daniel Halseth, Christine Halseth’s son, was stabbed to death in 2021 by the couple’s teenage daughter, Sierra Halseth, and her boyfriend, Aaron Guerrero. The pair are now serving life sentences.

In a scathing op-ed published Wednesday in The Nevada Globe, Halseth pleaded with Helgelien to drop out of the race for the state’s 3rd Congressional District “for my family’s sake, and out of respect for voters and the office she’s seeking.”

“Elizabeth raised a murderer, was forced out of office after a series of sex scandals, was caught in a series of lies, posed for lewd photographs, and has already proven to be unelectable,” Halseth wrote. “…We cannot, in good conscience, allow Elizabeth Helgelien to represent honest, decent Americans in Congress.”

“I don’t care about the politics,” Halseth told The Daily Beast on Thursday. “I just want to stop her.”

Regarding taking Trump “out of context.”

Trump has no context. He meanders from topic to topic several times in the same sentence. He throws out buzzwords that communicate ideas without actually saying them. He calls the J6 criminals “hostages.” He calls immigrants “not human.” He calls liberals “vermin.”

So when he says there’s going to be a bloodbath and we won’t have another election if he loses, I see zero reason to extend some sort of translation service to his words. He said it. If he meant something else, let him explain it in more detail and I’ll decide if that checks out. It won’t. Meanwhile, hammer the shit out of him because he’s threatening more violence and is in fact trying to make it happen.

Somethings I’m loving about Lucifer that aren’t the usual things that I think might be on most fans radar:

Gunshot wounds _HURT_. That alone is better than the vast majority of TV.

They take real time to heal. Ditto.

They leave scars. The shower scene in season one where you see the exit wound on The Detective’s back? Astonishing for mainstream TV. To show these physical and psychological scars like this is astonishing.

Weapons have effects appropriate to their actual physical capabilities that are much more accurate than 99.999% of Hollywood productions.

So much supernatural stuff and yet so much is very carefully in accordance to a certain take on a set of that mythos. Not always the usual western mythos but it is an internally consistent one and that’s no small thing.

There is still so much that is rule of cool and rule of smartass. But in the end, it’s well written and certain aspects are so much better shown than anything I’ve seen on TV in forever…

Just waiting for a Muslim org to sponsor a prayer on FNC. Personally, I recommend Ayāh al-Kursī (Surah 2, Verse 255):

“Allah! La ilaha illa Huwa, the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter. And they will never encompass anything of His Knowledge except of that which He wills. His Throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.”

Those clowns would choke having to read that on the air, LOL. Also, bonus point or two if they can read it in the Arabic original 😄

None of this changes that I don’t see a point in running with the bloodbath thing. Doing so just provides (IMHO a justifiable) example of ‘both sides’ exaggerating/lying about what the other side says/means.
Do I think that both sides do it to the same degree? Of course not. It’s not even close. But I’d be willing to bet good money that over the next 2 months someone will use this as a counter point when I point out that the GOP is lying about Biden.

I never said he was keen and purposeful, and he is an incoherent liar. Yet the fact remains that he has a habit, formed over decades, of speaking in mob code. David Corn explains it well:

At this point in the game, trying to parse a word like bloodbath strikes me as being entirely absurd,” he added. “In the same speech, he calls hundreds who beat up cops, unbelievable patriots. When he says the word bloodbath, he knows what he’s doing, whether he means an economic bloodbath or something else in the same speech. He is endorsing political violence and when he says we’ll never have another election if I don’t win, well, that too, has a tone of violence to it as well.”

YIKES!

Colorado Man’s Cause of Death Was His Pet Gila Monster

A Colorado man was killed by his illegal pet Gila monster’s venom, according to an autopsy report—the first such fatality in nearly a century. Christopher Ward, 34, and his girlfriend bought Winston and another Gila monster named Potato at a reptile show in October, according to the Associated Press. In February, Winston bit Ward’s hand with immediate consequences: vomiting, loss of consciousness, and difficulty breathing. The animal’s bites are not usually fatal, but by the time Ward got to a hospital—he waited two hours to call an ambulance—he was in dire condition and suffered several seizures before dying. It’s believed that Winston latched onto Ward’s hand for four minutes. “They bite, they hold on, and they chew, and that’s how they deliver their venom,” Kevin Torregrosa, curator of herpetology at the Bronx Zoo, told The New York Times. Ward had underlying medical conditions that contributed to his death, the autopsy found.

Alabama Senator Tuberville: ‘We’re Losing Our Kids to a Satanic Cult’

And Coach Dumbass held a copy of the Constitution upside down when he uttered this inane shit on Twitter.

Alabama senator Tommy Tuberville described his opponents as a “Satanic cult” in a speech he made on Friday in Utah. Armed with an upside down copy of the U.S. constitution, the diehard Trump ally addressed about 100 GOP delegates. “I’ve traveled all over the country—all 50 states—I’ve been in good places and bad places. The one thing I saw, we are losing our kids to a Satanic cult,” Tuberville said. He was campaigning for Trent Staggs, one of the Republican candidates vying for Mitt Romney’s soon-to-be-vacated senate seat. Tuberville added that the 2024 election was really a contest of “anti-American versus American.” “There’s not one Democrat that can tell you they stand up for God,” he said, before launching into tirades about transgender people, immigrants, and left-wing mobs. He also claimed the justice system was corrupted by the federal “cult” to let criminals walk free but hunt “innocent people who really love this country”—an apparent reference to Jan. 6 rioters.

Even if Trump intended his words to refer to the economy, his people hear “civil war” “kill or imprison anyone against us” Look at how they heard and still hear his January 6th messaging.

When Bill O talked about “Tiller the killer” he never said go out and kill George Tiller, but that’s what people heard. Did everyone hear it that way? No of course not, but enough people heard wild bills message as a call to kill and made it happen.

I find trumps people to be more fanatical than they were 4 years ago. So nothing is off the table for their behavior and his messaging…except decency.

If there’s something out there that resembles an independent voter, how do you think they took “Obama beat Biden” and all the other weird assed shit that came out of his piehole?

I, personally, think it’s weird af that you even try to add context to his insane ramblings like you’re the trump whisperer. He could have spewed whatever nonsense he said based on a thought he had six sentences prior or one that’s currently spinning up in his ever more twisted mind.

I know it is St Patrick’s Day and everyone is celebrating that. It is also St Gertrude’s Day and she is the patron saint of cats. I know the cat lovers at LGF are happy for that.

I think it’s the opposite. The people saying that he meant bloody revolution by that statement are the ones acting as Trump whisperers.

When I hear folks say an “old man” doesn’t know how to govern I remind them of Jerry Brown returning to the Governor’s mansion in 2011 and how he proceeded to undo the damage Ah-nold had inflicted.

It took Jerry a couple years to stabilize the state’s finances but he did it and he was competent in handling the state’s affairs UNLIKE RED INK AH-NOLD!

My favorite moment of Jerry’s tenure was the pain on his face when the orange buffoon kept referring to Paradise as Pleasure (what a name)

Christ on a cracker, are we still on about the “bloodbath” comment? I think we can universally agree it was a bad remark to make. Also, since context is important, there’s the additional context that most of his audience is sympathetic to the 1/6 insurrection, so using the word “bloodbath” is kind of loaded to evoke that kind of imagery, regardless of the context in which it is being used.

Again, he has given us enough examples of how dangerously unqualified he is to hold office, I see no need to linger on this latest utterance.

After sitting through hours of jokes about his age at Saturday’s Gridiron Club and Foundation dinner, President Biden turned the tables on the journalists putting on the skits.

“The big news this week is, two candidates clinched their parties’ nomination for president. One candidate is too old, mentally unfit to be president,” Biden said. “And the other is me.”

GOTV for Joe. This is what all of us have to do.

and make sure those votes get properly counted, registered and certified. I am convinced that the GOP sees their only chance of winning in getting as many votes “lost” or “compromised” through “irregularities” or “suspected voter fraud”.

Expect to see a lot of bamboo shavings being strewn about polling places.

I have never had a living room coffee table. I have end tables for the sofa, but never a central piece.

What I’ve kept as my living room table has been in the family since the mid-50s. Pretty simple slab of redwood with three simple legs underneath. A bit ragged along a few edges but I recall it from the house as I was growing up.

I am assuming my father purchased, or potentially made it himself, while in California in the late 50s right after he left the Navy.

re: #145 JC1

Bloodbath is commonly used in finance to describe a major selloff. If you search Bloomberg or WSJ for the term you’ll find plenty examples of it from times of financial crisis. Using it in terms of the auto industry makes sense from that perspective, though I think that he’s completely wrong about it.

Tariffs on Chinese auto imports are already over 25%. And it seems to be less aimed at complete cars* as compared to automotive parts, especially batteries and parts for EVs. Thus some of the tariffs and the Biden Administration trying to get US battery and associated industries established or otherwise built up to properly compete.

* - The joint venture schemes and brand/name mixtures for automobiles seems to be a pretty complex thing. So there are probably Chinese produced autos being imported, but the name and brand might not be obvious. Plus apparently they send cars and parts to Mexico for further assembly before they are imported to the US that way.
