It’s an intentional strategy to run out the clock.

I’ve done the same thing in the past at press conferences, when there were certain questions that I did not want to have asked in public. So you ask some friendly/dumb reporters their questions, knowing you will get a softie, and then just ramble on and on, then look at your watch and say “Look at the time” and walk away.

I do that with my wife. In that case it doesn’t always work, but it does work better on the phone I might add. Well at least till I get home and have to pay the piper?
