re: #483 PT Barnum

I think that’s an assertion I’d have to see actual evidence for other than your say so.

I can think of several industries that would be severely hurt because they depend on bulk mail or on standardized pricing no matter where the material is being sent.

Direct Marketing
Print Media
Mail order companies
Ebay (some things are much less expensive to ship via USPS than UPS YMMV)

Direct Marketing—wouldn’t mind if they went away. These SOBs account for most of my mail anyway—mail I don’t want. They are about the only thing keeping the USPS afloat these days. That and the taxpayers.

Print media— going away fast…should just go online. It’s cheaper than print. Why subsidize wasting all that paper/killing all those trees?

Mail order companies/Ebay—can still deliver via UPS or Fed Ex.

The USPS is an outmoded, expensive, and unnecessary organization that has outlived its usefulness. It encourages the wasting of paper, energy, and taxes. Shouldn’t left leaning folks like the idea of reducing paper, saving energy, and reducing cutting of forests? The point of the postal service was to ensure communication for our country when modern means did not exist. We have other ways of doing that without them now.
