Fuck Boehner. Grow some courage, coward, and call out the lunatics that run your caucus.

Completely irresponsible. Unbelievable that they have the nerve to do that.

That inscrutable thing is chiefly what I hate; and be the Democrat agent, or be the Democrat principal, I will wreak that hate upon him. Talk not to me of blasphemy, man; I'd strike the sun if it insulted me.

The breitbrats are already trying to paint this as Obama scuttling the deal with his "insults". Weak minded cry babies, they haven't seen insults yet. Wait until the GOP congress critter's constituents see their first paychecks of the year decrease -- then they will see some real insults.

So it's Obama's fault because he insulted them.

re: #3 Lidane

It's the optics, not the outcome.

Get to the same point (tax rates) but by opposite means. One is the result of the reset and then a deal to cut the rates. The other would have been to allow certain rates to lapse but keep others.

The President understood this, and it works to his benefit too. He gets the hike he wants on the rich, and now gets the GOP to have to defend why the top tax bracket deserves a break, and now the GOP has to explain why everyone should get a tax cut but one that is conditioned on the top bracket getting its cut.

Hopefully it will be unemployment notices for them. I really want the Democratic House committee to recruit some strong candidates to give Boehner and Cantor a scare. Those two don't deserve to be our legislature's speaker and Majority leader. They're terrible at what they do.

If only Obama had told them off and said they were a bunch of complainers, then he'd be just telling it how it is. Fucking Republicans. They insult middle class Americans left and right, and they can't handle when POTUS criticizes them for not doing their jobs.

What was that again Speaker Boehner?

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) bristled at President Obama’s claim Sunday morning that Republicans were holding up a deal on the “fiscal cliff.”

You know what's really pathetic is that many right wingers think Boehner's not "conservative" enough. Yeah they want more of this. Hell, let Cantor take Boehner's job and let the idiot find out he's in way over his head.

Makes perfect sense as we basically voted for the same set of asshats for the Congress and Senate as neither chamber flipped.

And the best part? Both parties are guilty for this outcome as they both agreed to the conditions that allowed this potential result to actually occur.

Yeah. They keep on doing that and expecting the Senate to pass it, and even if the Senate passes it? Do they seriously think Obama's actually going to sign it? It's so stupid. Really, I hope the people who voted the GOP House majority in 2010 are happy. Pelosi/Hoyer weren't perfect but they were a lot better at doing their jobs than Boehner/Cantor are.

Slightly OT, but I'd like to wish all of lizardom a Happy New Year ahead in 2013. The fireworks are going off all over the place here in the eastern Czech Republic, and we've got 90 minutes to go. The big show will get started around 23:55 local time.

The House GOP effectively raised taxes on people making 250K to 450K today. The reason being that the compromise was set at 450K. I doubt that any future tax cut bill brought forth later this week would include 450K and will instead be set on the traditional 250K.

On a positive note, I just realized we never took our jar-o-coins into the bank this year. We traditionally have saved spare change and then used it to defray or cover the cost of Xmas.

It's like a windfall in January.

I wonder how Congress would spin that?

Austerity (additional spending for xmas) in December leads to a Prosperous (spending mistakenly forgotten money) January?

Just guessing here but 2012 seemed like a good year for you, best of luck in 2013, it seems your efforts have been rewarded.

It had its ups and downs.

The ups included finishing grad school and getting a new job. I like what I do and who I work with and things are starting to come together in a way that makes sense to me. I've got an opportunity in the planning stages right now that would be huge if I land it. And the CES thing is flattering. I didn't expect them to go with it when I suggested that someone should go, but they agreed and I'm one of the two people being sent.

The downs, OTOH, included looking for that new job and all the anxiety about money that goes with it. It took me months of searching, including having to move three times in five months -- first at the end of July because my lease ran out and I needed a place to live while I found a job, then to a temporary place in October when I started my job, then three weeks ago when I found a permanent address. I also have to figure out money and how to pay back the student loans and bills that piled up this past year. Oy.

Overall, though, not a bad year. I think 2013 is going to be great year.

Overall, though, not a bad year. I think 2013 is going to be great year.

House moving, is there anything worse?
I'm happy for you, enjoying your work is a blessing.

Not sure how student loans are set up in the states but here in Australia, you get a government load for tertiary education at very low interest, and are not required to pay it back until you are earning over x dollars per annum.

I'm thinking its about 35 grand a year.

May 2013 be your best year yet!

The name Obama care has stuck.

It would be awesome if the new tax cuts get called the Obama era tax cuts. It will drive the GOP bonkers or is that more bonkers.

98 blueraven  Mon, Dec 31, 2012 1:54:09pm

All my best to Secretary Clinton.

And to the assholes who made jokes about this...just fuck you all. Krauthammer, Bolton and most of Fox news. Including Bill O'Reilly and Laura Ingraham, two so called Christians, who laughingly referred to this as Hillary's "immaculate concussion". They really had a good laugh and thought that was so very clever.

99 palomino  Mon, Dec 31, 2012 1:54:21pm

Might have been a smart political move for Obama to say a deal is "within sight", even if that's not totally true. Makes the House GOP look even more obstructionist, as they've been the main impediment to compromise all along.

Not surprising that Boehner can't (or won't) hold a vote. If Plan B failed (at 1 million), why would House Repubs go along with a deal at 400-450k?

Next question is whether House GOP is so extreme it will vote against tax cuts for 98% of Americans since the 2% of Americans they really care about won't be getting a cut.

This sounds more like a subdural than an epidural. Epidural is usually associated with big trauma--Natasha Richardson died of one after a ski accident, and MLB pitcher Brandon McCarthy needed surgery for one earlier this year after he took a batted ball to the head.

"In the course of a routine follow-up MRI on Sunday, the scan revealed that a right transverse sinus venous thrombosis had formed. This is a clot in the vein that is situated in the space between the brain and the skull behind the right ear. It did not result in a stroke, or neurological damage. To help dissolve this clot, her medical team began treating the Secretary with blood thinners. She will be released once the medication dose has been established. In all other aspects of her recovery, the Secretary is making excellent progress and we are confident she will make a full recovery. No, the Vegas cast of the Broadway show 'Rock Of Ages,' which became the Tom Cruise movie.
