Saudi Arabia Building 100-Mile-Long “Linear” City, Architectural Digest

Saudia Arabia is planning to invest between $100-$200 billion to build a green oasis in the desert—a futuristic city with no cars, no streets, and zero net carbon emissions.

Do we cheer? MBS is behind it.

Hmmmm…from CNN Business:

From CNN Business’ Matt Egan

GameStop mania didn’t happen in a vacuum. It’s just the most glaring example of the bubble-like behavior running rampant in the financial markets.

Long before an army of Reddit traders sent GameStop, AMC (AMC) and other stocks “to the moon,” evidence of extreme market speculation had been mounting.

Shares of Airbnb, DoorDash and other unprofitable start ups have gone straight up on their first day of trading. Shell companies with no operating assets have raised gobs of money thanks to a phenomenon known as SPAC mania. Tesla (TSLA) is now worth nearly $800 billion — more than every other major automaker combined.

None of this is normal. Rock-bottom interest rates are forcing investors to take extraordinary risks — and for some, this will end badly.

Richard Fisher, the former president of the Dallas Federal Reserve, told CNN Business:

“I think we’ve had a bubble for some time. This is just icing on the cake. When things get out of control like this, it is a sign that you should be very worried.”

As was pointed out to Ted Cruz, it’s possible to deal with more than one thing at a time, and those who can’t shouldn’t be in government.

This is pretty easy. Sign a one sentence EO that reverses or nullifies Space Policy Directive-4 and returns the USAF Space Command to status quo.

The DoD can figure out the rest.

Next.

They rode the Benghazi horse into a Trump victory over Clinton. Well before Comey and her emails, friends were attacking her because there “obviously” was something there — how else explain all those hearings. The Republican party has been a malign institution for most of my life; yes, there used to be a moderate wing that was the home for Rockefeller, Brooke, John Lindsay, Colin Powell, Chuck Percy. Even some conservatives were not terrible people and worked with Democrats. But that party is dead now; I’m not sure what can revive it. I suppose the Libertarian Party could become the home for people who are fine on non-economic issues. But our nation will not survive another Republican administration as long as this party remains in thrall to ALEC, Fox, and Trump.

Chrissy Stroop:

Christian nationalism after Trump remains a powerful and destructive force

This is not a time for unity in American politics. It’s a time for accountability.
With Joe Biden finally inaugurated after a rocky transition period and a dubious first for America—a non-peaceful transfer of power—elite American influencers and legacy media outlets will no doubt be tempted to take their eyes off the festering fascism that brought Donald Trump to power. One key constituent element of the toxic brew that became Trumpism is Christian nationalism. It was prominently on display in the January 6 storming of the Capitol in the form of prayers, Christian flags, “Jesus 2020” signs, crosses, and more, and it will remain a powerfully destructive force in local, state, and national politics. Will the media do the responsible thing and continue to shine a spotlight on it?

For the life of me I cannot understand why Marjorie Taylor Greene has not yet been expelled from Congress.

I can. Republican voters have not risen en masse to protest behavior like Greene’s or the coup attempt. Also, our precious ‘independent’ voters are just keeping their heads down, hoping this will all go way.

The GOP has basically gotten tacit approval to keep doing what they’re doing.

I mean, we are literally 22 days out from a fucking coup that was precipitated by the then-sitting GOP president. I’m a broken record on this, but Trump did what all our enemies, real and perceived, could never do: destroy our standing as the world’s only democracy that believed in a peaceful transfer of power.

And they’re fine with it. Look at that stupid bill in AZ or the new voter restrictions they’re trying to pass in GA. All GOP-led. They’ve seen that nearly half the country is willing to throw the Constitution away as long as it results in a permanent GOP super majority.

Half of this country wants their ‘side’ to start a dictatorship. How the fuck do you fight something like that, other than civil war?

re: #90 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))

I still wake up in the middle of the night remembering that Trump got more votes in 2020 than he did in 2016 and only massive record turnout on the part of the Democrats kept him from winning a second turn.

And even then it was not a done deal until noon on January 20th…

We were more than 2 points behind. Ask Senator Jones.

So why is the rank of major higher than a lieutenant but a lieutenant general higher than a major general?

(thought you’d never ask)

So it seems that the rank of “Major General” was once styled as “Sergeant Major General”, whereby a sergeant major is inferior in rank to a lieutenant.

Are you referring back to the days when the government imposed 55? We have 75 mph speed limits on Interstate 80 and 70 mph on divided highways.

Wyoming interstate speed limits are set to 80 outside of cities.
