Well before Comey and her emails, friends were attacking her because there “obviously” was something there — how else explain all those hearings. The Republican party has been a malign institution for most of my life; yes, there used to be a moderate wing that was the home for Rockefeller, Brooke, John Lindsay, Colin Powell, Chuck Percy. Even some conservatives were not terrible people and worked with Democrats. But that party is dead now; I’m not sure what can revive it. I suppose the Libertarian Party could become the home for people who are fine on non-economic issues.
