Kentucky Republican primary, we got loons running against Rand!

First up, a carpetbagger!: John Schiess (Republican Party) is running for election to the U.S. Senate to represent Kentucky. He is on the ballot in the Republican primary on May 17, 2022. Schiess was a 2018 Republican candidate who sought election to the U.S. Senate from Wisconsin.[1] With Donald Trump (R) winning Wisconsin in the 2016 presidential election—the first Republican win there since President Ronald Reagan (R) in 1984—incumbent Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D)’s seat was considered in play for Republicans.[2] It was one of the top 10 most expensive Senate races of 2018.[3]
Schiess was a 2016 Republican candidate who sought election to the U.S. Senate from Wisconsin. Schiess dropped out of the race prior to the primary elections.[4] Schiess was a 2014 write-in, Republican candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 7th Congressional District of Wisconsin.[5][6] John Schiess lost the general election on November 4, 2014. He was a 2012 Republican candidate who sought election to the U.S. Senate from Wisconsin.
Biography: John Schiess was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Schiess served in the Wisconsin National Guard. He earned a degree in physical education from the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point. Schiess’ career experience includes working as a teacher, conservative talk show host, professional driver, and courier.[7]

Next, another carpetbagger!
Tami Stainfield (Republican Party) is running for election to the U.S. Senate to represent Kentucky. She is on the ballot in the Republican primary on May 17, 2022. Stainfield was a 2014 independent candidate seeking election to the U.S. Senate from West Virginia.[1] Stainfield withdrew from the race.[2] Tami Stainfield was born in Keene, New Hampshire, and lives in Marion, Kentucky. Stainfield earned a B.S. in computer science from Indiana State University in 1985. Her career experience includes working in the banking, education, healthcare, and information technology industries.[3]

And three other people who couldn’t be bothered to let Republican voters know who they are.

Then we have an actual Libertarian!
David Biery (Libertarian Party) is running for election to the U.S. Senate to represent Kentucky. He declared candidacy for the general election scheduled on November 8, 2022.
Biery completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey in 2021. Click here to read the survey answers.
Biery was born in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. He earned a certificate from the Six Sigma Global Institute in 2017. His career experience includes working in program management and as a church pastor.[1] Biery has been affiliated with the following organizations:[1] National Association of Evangelicals, Church of Christ, and Libertarian Party

Yeah…he sounds nice…O_o

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) said that Donald Trump’s Twitter account should be reinstated, the HuffPost reports.

Said Collins: “Although I obviously don’t agree with a lot of President Trump’s tweets, I do think he should have his account back. To me, it’s ironic that we allow Russian government sites to be on Twitter but we don’t allow President Trump.”

that’s because the ‘russian government sites’ that are on twitter tend to obey twitter’s rules

“Newly obtained text messages and recent court filings fill in significant gaps about the key role a little-known Pennsylvania Republican congressman played at almost every turn in scheming to reverse or delay certification of the 2020 election,” CNN reports.

“The texts, which were among those selectively provided by Donald Trump’s former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows to the House select committee, show Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) pushing to have the nation’s top intelligence official investigate baseless conspiracy theories and working to replace the US acting attorney general with an acolyte willing to do Trump’s bidding.”

“Perry, a five-term congressman, is a retired Brigadier General with nearly 40 years of military service, including flying combat missions in Iraq. Given his extensive background, he is likely familiar with the inner-workings of government intelligence.”

5 terms in congress
40 years military service

how so many this deep in government and the military were so damned eager to sign on to this.

and with trump as the first ‘leader’ they thought was worth doing it for

Yeah but his name is Schieß, not Scheiß. That means more or less “shoot” or “fire” (as in a weapon).

He’s 59 years old. He was a state rep in PA from 2007 to 2012, so 5 terms in Congress = 10 years, combined total is 15 years.
+ 40 years military service = 55 years

Ah…PA Army National Guard since 1980 (when he was 18 years old)! And a Brigadier General!

I’m waiting for Michael Tracey to tell us about how much the Amish support Russia, like he did with the sketchy Amish4Trump in Pennsylvania.

Here’s where Truth and Reconciliation is most needed in the US — a searching examination of the Republican Party, in the context of the Union winning the Civil War but losing the peace afterward.

They can’t handle the truth.

JFC

Ron Ferguson, a Republican from Wintersville, cosponsored House Bill 63, the COVID-19 Health Care Professional-Patient Relationship Protection Act. The bill’s primary sponsor, Kris Jordan, a Republican from Ostrander, did not respond to comment.

The four main drugs that the bill includes are ivermectin, hydroxychloroquine, azithromycin and budesonide. Each is an unapproved method to combat COVID-19. The bill’s language also requires doctors to promote and increase distribution of any other drug or therapy that “may be proven effective or deemed beneficial” by the patient’s “treating health care professional in consultation with the patient or patient’s legally authorized representative.”

snip

“More options, better health care,” Ferguson said. “That’s what people are always looking for in the healthcare space.”

Although doctors say options are important, there’s a difference between a drug proven to work and one that isn’t.

“There’s absolutely no benefit from ivermectin,” said Dr. Donald Dumford, medical director for infection prevention at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center. “If you would take ivermectin or take a sugar pill and you’re hoping to prevent COVID, you’re going to get just as much of an effect out of that sugar pill.”

Once I got it I realized I got a lot of other shows…so I looked up a show I used to watch 22 years ago when I lived in the UK - Waiting for God - about a couple of retirees living in a retirement community that has a bit of a Faulty Towers feel to its management. Super funny show. And she loves it, which makes it even better. I suspect the five seasons won’t last long though.

The senior officer ranks in the National Guard are basically political in nature. It’s a good way if you want to get into state politics.

I have to buy the tomato plants at Lowe’s or Home Depot. They don’t grow themselves and I do not save heirloom seeds from year to year.

I got these plants at Costco. The two runt plants in the greenhouse come out in two weeks when the peppers are big enough to need more space. Those I got at Ace and it was probably too early in the year for them.

No heirlooms this year I don’t think…might sneak in some weed for fun. Will pick up starter squash this weekend at the farmer’s market so I can have squash blossoms by late May - love making squash blossom quesadillas and squash blossoms filled with ricotta, dipped in batter, and fried.

Russia is sort of an anomaly on this planet. The result of a vast land that is mostly not very kind to human habitation, and given several centuries of European wars to move boundaries around, what ends up is a political state where most of the people and nearly all the power to control the country ends up in the far western part of the state.

Looking at a map, youngsters in school may get an impression that Russia is some giant monolith. But it is not.

I for one have no idea of what life will be like for Russians in 50 years. I suspect life will be much harder for them. Then after another 50 years I wonder if people will even think of themselves as part of a Russian state, at least for those in the far flung east.

There are many parallels between Putin’s gang and the white-grievance specialists here in the US.

Canada shares that with Russia; it is the 2nd largest nation on earth by area, most of which is not kind to human habitation. And it is far less populated, per square mile. There, the large majority of the population lives near the southern border, rather than the west.

If Russia ever got its act together — under leadership that was not corrupt — it would have the ability to be a cohesive and, with its natural resources and educated population, wealthy nation. After all, with modern technology, those living in the far east can be in instantaneous contact with others throughout throughout the country. But sadly that does not appear to be its likely fate. We cannot even manage our nation properly and we’ve had a much superior leadership over most of our history; but now we seem to remain on the verge of imploding, thanks to the same type of corruption that poisons Russia.

We have to continue the struggle and hope we can pull through, and find some way to help Russia survive too.

It may come to that if Putin falls to outsiders rather an underling in the same gang. New guys might have a strong interest in destroying the Putin faction’s western support by revealing the FSU/GRU influence files. We can’t imprison the top hundred thousand Repugs and their media, can we?

The guy who runs Counter Social is a monster just like Elon musk is. I’m not going to CS. I wish people did a little more research on this.

A couple of years ago a bunch of my circle of acquaintances wanted to find somewhere to tell Facebook to take a flying leap. They all ran to MeWe. I setup an account and almost immediately was greeted with a welcome message from the CEO and Founder that was a free speech absolutist screed. I noped the fuck out because I know where that idea comes from and where it leads.

Like MeWe, I’ll leave my account around on Twitter to keep idiots from shenanigans* but I’m not going to use it. I only use it to view now anyway. Haven’t posted anything on it in like 8 years.

*story of why I have Twitter in the first place: There are 3 people who have the same last name and first initial as I do that for some reason think my email address is theirs. I constantly get emails for them, including verification mails and very important personal shit. I could several times have been an asshole and canceled flights and hotel reservations if I wanted to.

Anyway, in 2009 or so one of these people setup a Twitter account using my email address. Since this would stop me from doing so in the future if for some reason I needed or wanted to, I requested a password change and stole the account. I’ve sat on it ever since because of an idiot.

These guys better hope that they never have to leave Russia. And that a putinesque administration always remains in power there. Or, maybe, privately cut a deal with the US.

[Embedded content]

I am more sure than ever that the tail wags the dog, and understanding this is the key to crushing the Great Putin-GOP Treason.
We (the Rule-of-Law West) may yet get our hands on these scuds. How would the Russian public react to seeing them extradited? Is it even conceivable that they would accept it?
I think it might be. The same would be true of Putin’s western collaborators.
A post-Putin regime could easily justify handing them over by representing Putin and his gang as tools of a western oligarchy, rather than the other way around. It is even true in many respects. The Republican leadership and its gentry supporters are collectively far wealthier than the Russian oligarchy with which they have allied themselves. The Russians were able to provide services that the Repugs could not provide for themselves, either because they lacked the know-how or because it isn’t legally possible or concealable in the west. In return, the Russians receive a massive effort to weaken the West by every possible means, including the exploitation of a lethal epidemic.

The Army announced plans last November to start working on a replacement for the Stinger, but the “Requests For Information” (RFIs) didn’t go out to interested companies until earlier this month. Meanwhile, the pre-Ukraine plan was only to extend the life of existing stockpile to 2030. Raytheon probably had to dig through file cabinets covered in an inch of dust just to find the designs for missiles.

This always was and continues to be a war of conquest. The whole “denazification” bit was to justify removing Zelensky and his supporters from power, putting puppets in their place, and then jailing/executing any who would not pledge loyalty to the Putin regime.

Some data on the “Twitter is the new public square” nonsense: Only 22% of Americans are on Twitter, according to Pew, and 10% of them are creating 90% of the content. Don’t really think we should be pinning our hopes for democracy on 280-character posts from ~2% of the public

But our media find it cheaper, quicker and easier just to get some unpaid Intern to glean the Internet rather than pay for investigative reporting.

So “Trending on Twitter” has become a news item in and of itself: anyone who can get a story floated out there long enough will see it picked up by the MSM and treated as if it had some merit whether it does or not.

People like Matt Drudge, Steve Bannon and Breitbart made their careers on this approach.

Russia has about 7 days before the economy will potentially completely freefall depending on how good they are at using “creative accounting”. Missing it’s sovereign debt obligations put it into kind of a grace period. After about May 4th, it’s on. If they are really good at playing 3 card monty with bullshit and fairy dust, they might be able to float it for a few months, but there’s a reasonable chance that it will Mad Max-ish there in a week or so.

There were some amazing shows on UK TV decades ago: The Young Ones, Rising Damp, Keeping up Appearances, The Good Life, etc.

An ammo dump getting shelled in Luhansk is really a good indicator of just how poorly prepared the Russians are for what’s coming next. And if they don’t know the exact coordinates to turn into red paste, we’ll happily provide them because we’re invested in seeing Russia reduced to sporting less military power than a third world banana republic.

I have questions.

A passenger jet that crashed killing all onboard was brought down by the pilot having a cigarette in the cockpit, an investigation has found.

The pilot onboard EgyptAir flight MS804 lit a cigarette in the cockpit, causing oxygen leaking from an emergency mask to combust.

A total of 66 passengers and crew died when the Airbus A320 which was travelling from Paris Charles de Gaulle in France to Cairo, Egypt in May 2016 crashed into the Mediterranean Sea south of the Greek island of Crete in mysterious circumstances.

The plane made violent swerves before falling into a “death spiral” over the Med.

Among the dead were one Brit, 12 French tourists, 30 Egyptians, two Iraqis, and one Canadian.

Oxygen itself does not burn but a fire needs oxygen to start and to keep burning. When more oxygen is in the air, the fire will burn hotter and faster.

Embargo ON!

Russia opened a new front in its war in Ukraine on Wednesday, cutting two European Union nations that staunchly back Kyiv off from its gas, a dramatic escalation in the conflict that is increasingly becoming a wider battle with the West.

One day after the United States and other Western allies vowed to speed more and better military supplies to Ukraine, the Kremlin upped the ante, using its most essential export as leverage. European gas prices shot up on the news, which European leaders denounced as “blackmail.”

In a memo, state-controlled Russian giant Gazprom said it was cutting Poland and Bulgaria off from its natural gas because they refused to pay in Russian rubles, as President Vladimir Putin had demanded. The company said it had not received any such payment since the beginning of the month.

Russia instigated a war with Ukraine that Russia thought it could win quickly. Turns out that they’ve been caught in a quagmire where their path forward involves genocide and war crimes while claiming defending against Russian aggression puts peace at risk.

Fifth Column activity will be ramped up to the greatest possible level, including outright terrorism if possible. Most of their American accomplices are cowardly grifters but those accomplices do provide Russian planners an open channel to large numbers of psychotic fanatics who might be manipulated into violence. We saw this on 1-6, and that did not involve their most fanatical fringe so much as their allegedly respectable middle class contingent.

Awww….

Michigan state Rep. Matt Maddock, R-Milford, an ally of former President Donald Trump and the husband of Michigan GOP co-chair Meshawn Maddock, was removed from the House Republican caucus Tuesday.

Gideon D’Assandro, a spokesperson for state House Speaker Jason Wentworth, confirmed Maddock was kicked out of the caucus in a text message. He did not provide an explanation, writing that “the caucus doesn’t discuss internal issues.”

Maddock did not immediately respond to a voice message seeking comment.

Caucuses typically include all members of a party elected and serving. It is rare, but not unprecedented, for a member to be excluded.

The websites for the Michigan House of Representatives and the Michigan House Republicans no longer list Maddock as member of the GOP caucus.

Maddock was first elected to the state House in 2018 and was reelected in 2020 to represent an Oakland County district that includes Highland, Milford, Springfield, Waterford and White Lake townships. He is currenlty seeking a third term and had been vying to serve as the state House’s next GOP leader.

He and Meshawn Maddock have strong ties with Trump.

The pair have peddled misinformation about the 2020 presidential election. Both were among a group of Republicans falsely claiming they were the state’s presidential electors and tried to enter the state Capitol the day Michigan’s Electoral College votes were cast for President Joe Biden. Meshawn Maddock signed a fake certificate of electors to try to award the state’s votes to Trump.

There’s a lot more to that story…. A lot.

They’ve been signaling overruns for a while now.

Trump interfering in the acquisition process is just one part of the whole picture. There were covid costs, and a subcontractor that fucked things up badly, adding to time and cost to the project. Then one of the subs went bankrupt last year, adding costs/time.

The supposed savings by taking two pre-built planes and converting into new VC-25s didn’t occur; it may have been same cost or cheaper to build from scratch.

I’d argue that Trump had little to do with this.

Boeing is a mess, between its civilian program with the 737 Max debacle and recent crashes to its military program and trying to convert 2 excess 747 planes into new VC-25s. Even before this program got underway, Boeing was citing overruns due to inefficiencies. Then they had a subcontract go bankrupt, adding another 300+ million in costs. Then there’s reports that while trying to prep one of the planes in Dallas, they put it on a stand that wasn’t set to handle the weight, which could have wrecked the plane entirely. Mismanagement appears to be endemic to Boeing right now.

Historically once the bean counters take over at an aircraft company, it’s the beginning of the end. Once Donald Douglas retired in 1957 it took less than 10 years for McDonnel to swallow them up (and later by Boeing).

The only reason Boeing is propped up is the military contracts that can’t go anywhere else. But you see the results in the 737 debacle…

re: #338 lawhawk

I remember hearing about some of this but had completely forgotten all the screw ups and the “piss on it” attitude that had crept in.

re: #301 Eclectic Cyborg

Tillis is a Republican. Interesting to see him go after Cawthorn.

Did he say a word in the past when all the insider trading in regards to the initial Covid briefings came to light?
