Questionable footage has displayed the “nasty” process behind creating the McDonald’s McRib burger, with many customers vowing to never order the item again.

A video shared to Twitter this week evoked repulsion from thousands of viewers after it showed frozen blocks of the “rib” product being slapped onto a grill in batches of six.

Once thawed, the items, which had been preformed into riblike shapes, were taken from the grill and placed into pullout containers filled with thick brown sauce.

The slabs were then placed on top of onion and pickles on a lightly toasted bun before being closed into a box and sent down a chute to fulfill an order.

When I had my brief job at a McDonalds, that was how all sandwiches were made (without the brown sauce).

The pullout drawer warmers are still in use today: McDonalds rules (when I worked for them) said items could not remain in the warmer more than ten minutes (there is a timer on each drawer). The warmer drawers themselves go to the dishwasher as soon as they are empty.

The warmers help during high-traffic times like lunch.

I don’t know why the Post says the process of making a McRib (or any other sandwich there really) is “nasty.”

It’s to play off the popular conception that fast food is inherently unsafe. The Golden Arches have been a favorite target for “ZOMG did you know THIS ONE HUGELY POPULAR FOOD has THIS CRAZY INGREDIENT in it?!?” type conspiracies for decades. Look, we get it, fast food isn’t a paragon of nutritional virtue. Anybody who goes to a fast food restaurant and expects a well-balanced, thoughtfully prepared meal is trolling for clicks.

There may be some question about the efficiency and safety of cleaning processes at fast food restaurants, but that would usually apply more to individual franchises; a national chain with poor sanitation ends up like Chipotle, where people will openly question your will to live healthy when you say you eat there.

Just watched the video, never been a big McRib fan, but that seems like pretty much exactly the process I would expect. While not the most appetizing thing in the world, how else would anyone think they are made. No grosser than most fast foods.

Although I am sure the processing behind the McRib is not a pretty thing. Probably much like the McNugget, only with pork.

There’s actually an interesting story behind the development of the McRib, its removal from the menu in the mid-’90s, and semi-triumphant annual return as a sort of Spirit Halloween pop-up menu item publicized solely by viral word of mouth. And why McDonald’s keeps bringing it back “for a limited time,” but never quite making it official.

Why would this process be considered unusually “nasty”? Thawing frozen stuff, then grilling it and slapping it together to order is SOP for an enormous number of fast-food outlets throughout the country (or world, for that matter). As long as the “manufacturing” process is sanitary, and the frozen storage conditions clean - not to mention the prep/serving environment - what difference does it make?

PS: Bias disclaimer: I like the McRib. A nice change from the burgers, IMO. Even without the bones.

Many in the Roman military were from the provinces. Military service was the path to citizenship for those who were not born a citizen of Rome.

So if one wants to go with the gospels as based on real events (not a given but here let’s run with it) the father could just as well been a blue-eyed, blonde haired dude from Gaul.

They think that Biblical morality states that any non-cisgender-heterosexual identity is sinful and unnatural, so therefore, while those are all OK - none of those violate their idea of Biblical norms - gays, transgendered folk, cross-dressers, and the like are all “sexual perverts” and therefore must be shunned. (Or worse; see, e.g., the literal crusade against transgendered people, where certain groups of evangelicals want to literally murder them all.)

75% of pediatric hospital beds are full, thanks to a variety of respiratory diseases hitting kids. RSV is among the worst of those, but there’s a whole raft of viruses that are hitting these kids.

Hospitals are also discharging kids from ICUs, instead of stepping down to regular units because space is at a premium.

Oh, and separate from that story is fact insurers are also not picking up respiratory virus panels - disputing the charges, claiming that they’re not necessary or don’t objectively change the treatment. Mind you, the doctors wanted to know what virus was involved, because it could change the treatment, or identify risks to the kids involved.

That adaptation was pretty damn good; I really liked it too. There’s plenty of Lovecraft stories that could be made into films (granted, some would have to be short films, which would work great in an anthology-type series, like “The Haunter of the Dark” or “The Rats in the Walls” - though the cat’s name would be, shall we say….problematic).

I don’t necessary look at these a weaknesses, just limitations of the current system. And the community itself calls it machine learning to separate it from actual intelligence, artificial or otherwise.

Now, what’s actually interesting is to think of those in terms of what people would create, even if they were taught to draw. Could most people create Escher’s works?

These imaging AI networks are geared towards two-dimensional images. Something like Escher, who portrays impossible 3-D objects on two dimensional, will require 3-D modeling of impossible objects that the AI just don’t do.

It’s analogous to the problem with literary AI. They are fine for essays and copy-work, but they don’t do as well with irony because irony depends upon the reader’s own context.

Going local will give you a better idea of what actually happened at State College with that “comedy show” that was nothing more than a Proud Boy event.
Cops did nothing.
My surprised face.
Where is it.

As I said above, always assume they are the enemy. You’ll be right 9 out of 10 times.

Forget the inanity of i “heard”

On what line in what precinct(s)?
Getting back in the same Long lines …never coulda happened,1+ hour waits

If the lines were short they’d have been id’d and caught instantly

Driving to other precincts? Really?
Somultiple fake IDs.
And again, that kinda time…

Why do I bother?

Catching up:

On Dr. Oz: shouldn’t he be sitting in a dark room joylessly eating açaí berries one at a time instead of trying to Snake Charm rural Pennsylvania? It seems a better fit for all of us

On rings: I nearly tore off my finger trying to repair my car back in 1991 when a ring got caught on a spring. Then I started driving coworkers crazy with horrible percussion habit tapping it on-a metal coffee mug during meetings—and my hand hurt every day. I stopped wearing the ring 10 years ago. Wife slightly disappointed and I offered to try a silicone ring but I really hate wearing jewelry. I am an old guy with an average body who tends to blend in without a dog. No one tries to hit on me, believe me so I stay ringless

On dogs: see photo

i have a different opinion

i started out with Bell full faces, Snell rating etc
i did eventually go open face because it was just too damned hot
when i moved to florida, i started riding helmetless
i thought Jeb’s move was a good one
you had to be of age to make an ‘informed’ decision
and you had to carry adequate health / accident insurance, so expenses wouldn’t automatically fall on ‘everyone else’

to me it was the height of personal responsibility
you make a decision, you pay they price

i was lucky(?) to have never crashed nor been hit.

Jon Mark actually did lose a finger in Hawaii, climbing a palm tree, when his wedding ring got caught somehow and he fell. Ripped all the flesh off his finger, to be way too graphic. But that’s what happened. Really felt sorry for the poor guy.

I never climbed a palm tree again after that.

Keith Richards fell out of one and conked his head (true story). It was difficult to determine when he had fully recovered.

Getting close to generating the Hellraiser cube.

You know, I’ve never watched the Hellraiser movies, but I saw a video years ago making fun of horror movie tropes, and it had a kid peeing on a cube. Now I understand where that trope came from. Thanks!

I haven’t and will never ride a motorcycle but I did bicycle for awhile and always wore a helmet. Years before we met and before there were bike helmets, my husband was in a bicycle accident where he sustained 7(?) skull fractures. The doctors were initially unsure whether he would make it but he was fortunate to survive without any long term mental or physical damage. Once helmets were available, he wore them religiously.

A very different situation from riding a motorcycle, where impacts are usually at much higher speeds.

Do not google the term for what happened to his finger. One very good reason I take my ring off when climbing outside.
Mark Almond is a name I have not seen in a long time! I do have have 3 or 4 vinyl albums in long term storage. “The City” being one of my favs.

Broken record here! Broken record here! As a glass half empty type of person, I always tend to believe bad news and discount good news. In the contemporary world, I haven’t believed polls are worth the pixels that display them for many years. It doesn’t matter how many responses a poll has if the responses are not from an accurate reflection of the voting community. People do not answer phones, they ignore emails and letters, and they won’t talk to those knocking at their doors.

What happened in Kansas re the abortion referendum may happen nationwide: the polls were totally ineffective at predicting the actual vote. And in the current world with breaking news (when it’s really breaking) potentially turning everything around on a daily basis and a devastating war in Europe with potential threats of nuclear weapons, all we can be certain about — is that we cannot be certain about anything. We will know what happens after the votes are in and counted. The fact this is so close is appalling for our democracy and the future of this world.

Going to disagree here.
Yes, you were lucky.
Watched my mom and aunt lose a cousin and a neighbor. My husband had to watch the EMTs unwedge an unlucky motorcyclist from his wheel well — hit by another car, flew over the hood, skidded across the intersection — while he sat there and thanked God he was able to stop before he ran over the guy’s head.

They made the decisions.
Their families paid the price.
