“Sopranos” actor John Ventimiglia’s daughter Odele died on Jan 12. She was 25.

Odele’s mother, Belinda Cape, shared the news in a recent Facebook post, writing that she and her family are “heartbroken” over the unexpected loss.

“Heartbroken to have to post our darling Odele’s funeral notice. Her sister Lucinda and I have been overwhelmed by the messages of support and love we have received, and your remembrances of how cherished Odele was to so many,” Cape wrote.

Saving energy is “woke” and liberal. True Conservatives measure wealth and prosperity in terms of how many resources we consume, not how efficiently we consume them.

We need a Sub-Ministry of Spin as part of the Ministry of Fairness and Balance.

Which of course, would itself be a sub-section of the Ministry of Platforming, which would have the power to regulate any social media site with more than 50K users.

you can work as long as you like. there is law that says you must stop.

you can choose not to receive social security benefits. ever. there is no requirement.
(as opposed to ira/pension rmds etc)

of course rick is full of shit, cause no one said this to him.

changing the system in any way (what he’s implying) would do nothing to address this huge problem he thinks we have

The average social security benefit is about 1550 dollars a month. By an interesting coincidence this is also about the current cost of a guillotine.
(It was $1200 three years ago but there has been quite a bit of inflation and all, especially in the cost of lumber.)

re: #23 Backwoods_Sleuth

Institutionalized racism takes many forms and is layered on centuries of mistreatment and criminal justice policies.

Cops are a tribe unto themselves, and they’re more likely to stop and mistreat persons of color than other groups.

Criminal justice disproportionately comes down harshly against persons of color. That includes cops who are accused of killing people while in the line of duty. Prosecutors will often make the claim that they’re following the evidence, but we’ve repeatedly seen that evidence lead to undercharging white cops accused of killing black victims and charging black cops to a greater degree - in an attempt to show that they’re “color-blind”.

Cops should be fired and prosecuted for murdering Nichols. That this is the exception rather than the rule shows how prosecutors and cops have institutionalized racism and still engage in racism even when the cops are also persons of color.

Well Chauvin was. It may depend on just how bad the behavior of the cops appears on the video. For white cops, you have to be obviously murdering a defenseless individual.

Once Mastodon was identified as the best bet, our Esteemed Host began building the infrastructure to integrate it into Little Green Footballs.

Trump Has Completely Lost His Grip on Reality

Charles C.W. Cooke: “Let’s check in on the shadow primary for the 2024 Republican nomination. Nikki Haley is putting together a finance committee, and suggested last week that she’s ‘leaning in’ to a run. Mike Pompeo has just published a book called Never Give an Inch, and told CBS yesterday that he’ll decide whether to enter the fray over the ‘next handful of months.’ Governor Ron DeSantis has continued to pick winning fights in Florida since being reelected in a November landslide, and has stayed assiduously quiet about his future.”

“And then there’s Donald Trump, who, despite being the only candidate who has officially announced his bid, is … well, ranting like a deranged hobo in a dilapidated public park. No, don’t look at him — he might come over here with his sign.”

“There was a point in time at which Trump’s unusual verbal affect and singular nose for underutilized wedge issues gave him a competitive edge. Now? Now, he’s morphing into one of the three witches from Macbeth. To peruse Trump’s account on Truth Social is to meet a cast of characters about whom nobody who lives beyond the Trump Extended Universe could possibly care one whit.”

Remember trump made it a felony to mishandle classified dox
he signed Public Law 115-118
A felony to ‘knowingly removing classified documents.’
would seem to let Pence and biden off the hook for having documents.
Biden esp for documents that predate the new law.

Yeah for the BWCA!

Some context - BWCA is the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Northern MN and is adjacent to the Quetico in Canada. It’s a large wilderness area of over a million acres of lakes, forests, rivers, wildlife, and fish that is primarily explored by canoe (and occasionally kayak). No motors allowed and is adjacent/part of the Superior National Forest. There are plenty opportunities for day trips into the area but most people overnight camp and you can also hike in if you’re a bit odd like me.

This puts Twin Metals (a copper mining outfit) by Ely on hold for 20 years but does not directly impact PolyMet mine (a copper-nickel mine) south of the area but still in the watershed. News article: mprnews.org

American Law.
You or me or any other regular American makes a mistake, commits a crime or criminal act you either end up beat up, missing or dead.
American politicians commit a crime, lie, cheat, steal, injure and threaten…They get YEARS to ignore subpoenas and the actual Law.
I hate that my childhood attitude was proven correct.

Arizona Republic: “New records show Trump received direct updates from people at the coliseum, his allies pressured the lead contractor on when to report findings, and that contractor asked people close to the former president if he could help pay for it. This all happened as leaders of the state Senate publicly denied Trump had any involvement in their effort.

“While messages from those working on the audit indicate they intentionally kept the president at arm’s length to avoid the appearance of his influence, behind the scenes they sought Trump’s approval — and money.”

Historian Carter Woodson studied 1830 census data and found that among free blacks who were eligible to own slaves, 16% owned black slaves. He found even higher percentages in certain states.

They “owned” MEMBERS OF THEIR OWN FAMILY that they had to ransom from the white enslavers.

This isn’t difficult.

I haven’t seen that yet in any of the grocery stores in the Los Angeles area. Still see the plastic rings on six packs of all sodas and beer.

The Russians have a number of T-34s they use on display parades such as the Red Square events in May each year. A lot of them have been purchased from countries which were equipped with them during and after WW2 and they’re always looking for more of them, for parts if nothing else.

I like Amazon because I can shop for things I cannot get here.
Had very little problems and when I did it was a seamless fix.
So I had a memory jog of a certain candy.
Turkish Delight.
Long ago and far away I had some.
Like the fabled Argentinian strawberry fruit filled candy.
Uhhhhhhh.
So I ordered a box.
Got it.
Four flavors, very nice sugar bombs the first time.
Nice nice nice.
Ordered another, not from the same seller, but Amazon fulfilled. And only orange.
Because.
Even had a pop up ask if I wanted “ Amazon packaging” hiding what it was.
Yes. Good. Do that.
Came today a day early.
No packaging.
Just a box of candy sliding on the floor of a few trucks.

Nice.
Even better

The flour coating was blowing out as you squeezed it.
I can return it.
No you can’t.
Yes I will.
So crawling through I talk to Shivanna from Mumbai and she is such a sweetheart (I hope) and we are smiley face and all good and warm and fuzzy and I must wait another week and such is small disappointments.
They were not going to accept reimbursement.
Thank you Shivanna.
Now I wait again for a small treat…..
bastards….
I imagine the call desks in India.
“What is a good American name?”
Steve?
Shivanna was a good one.
Now I wait…..grrr

Copper mines are nasty. I lived between 2 of them in NM.
