Video: Legal Analyst: Re-Arresting FBI Ex-Informant Highlights How ‘Terrified’ Prosecutors Are

Politics • Views: 11,940

Here’s the latest news on Alexander Smirnov, the former FBI informant who was trumpeted by the Republican Party as a “bombshell witness” in their attempted impeachment of President Biden — until he was found to be lying.

Oops.

CNN legal analyst Elie Honig calls the re-arrest of Alexander Smirnov, an ex-FBI informant who lied about President Joe Biden, “unprecedented” and breaks down the seriousness of his re-arrest, calling it a “black eye” for the FBI. #CNN #News

I’ve been pondering Trump’s VP pick. He will pick some version of Mike Pence. Someone who won’t have more press coverage than his orangeness would be his first priority in picking a running mate.

As far is picking a woman or person of color, I think that’s a non-starter in Trump’s addled brain. I might be giving him too much credit, but I assume he understands that the VP could potentially replace him. No way does he want to give the impression that a woman or person of color could replace him.

Pence was basically Reek in Trumpworld (until Jan. 6), but at least he’s a white man.

replace him assumes he’d consider himself vulnerable and mortal

Because they never should have listened the guy and started this prosecution of Hunter Biden. It was all bogus and based on Russian agitprop.

It was a Russian election interference effort, and the FBI fell for it, as did every last motherfucking GOPer in Congress that could get their hands on it - especially Comer, Jordan, and the truly Trumpers.

The FBI should be looking at investigating everyone up and down the chain of command who allowed this “informant” to spread this BS, amplified his BS, and even look at the prosecutor himself for misconduct.

That’s the part that I have trouble including in my thinking. I imagine narcissists don’t spend much time contemplating their mortality.

This “black eye” arrest is going to turn out be the lynchpin for getting a lot of Trump ass-licking criminal accomplices out of the FBI and other Federal agencies.

It will also be the evidence and witness used to launch a massive massive lawsuit from the Biden family against Fox News, numerous right wing toadie outlets, and individual Republican Congress monsters whose only purpose in life is to spread cruelty and empower liars, thieves and cowards.

And speaking of heartless, disgusting pigs—

Russian authorities sharply increased the pressure on Alexei Navalny’s mother on Friday to agree to bury him in a quiet, private funeral — issuing her a three-hour ultimatum and threatening to inter him on the grounds of the prison colony where he died suddenly last week, a former top aide to the late opposition leader said…

Navalnaya, 69, insisted on her legal right to claim her son’s body from the morgue in the Arctic city of Salekhard, where it has been held for more than a week, and to bring him to Moscow for burial.

This week, she signed his death certificate, in which authorities said Navalny died of “natural causes.” His family and his team say he was murdered and that authorities have withheld the body to cover up the evidence.

Alabama hospitals and reproductive care centers closing their IVF facilities because of the threat of lawsuits, ending hopes of AL residents trying to have children because of the asinine decision handled down by the Christian fascist state supreme court.

They’ll chase away any competent health care providers and professionals, because who would want to work in a state where caring for women could land you in prison. The people who’ll suffer the most are the women and families seeking IVF treatment in the state who cannot afford to move out of the state to get care.

There’s a reason that AL is among the worst states to live for education outcomes, health care outcomes, maternal life expectancy, etc.

The fascist GOP are intent on making lives worse for all residents.

Meanwhile, the NRSC sent out a statement to senators on how to “navigate” the AL IVF decision, and it’s as asinine and backwards as you’d expect from the lying propagandists running that GOP org. They just want to keep lying about how they support IVF, all while they back far more extreme anti-abortion methods that formed the basis of the anti-IVF outcome we saw.

Every last motherfucking GOPer is out to control women. They want to deny them agency over their bodies. They want to limit their reproductive care options. They want to limit their ability to have children. They want to limit their ability to have housing/food/education. They are doing everything possible to roll back decades of progress on civil and human rights.

Because GOPers in power want to accumulate power in the handful of rich white guys who run the party. They’ll lie and rely on a bigoted base that buys in to every conspiracy theory and lie thrown their way, even if the GOP acts against the base’s own interests (like with the infrastructure bill, CARES act, etc.)

If you read the actual document it seems like more than just talking. In one instance Willis calls Wade at 11:30pm at which point his phone moves from the his residence to her condo, is stationarty there until 5am and then goes back to his residence. I mean, that’s a booty call if I’ve ever seen one, and it happened months before he was hired as special prosecutor.

Every last one of the Christian fascists he put on the bench has every reproductive care option on the chopping block, because they believe that life begins at conception.

Their religious beliefs contradict medical science as well as other religious beliefs (such as Judaism). Therefore, limiting IVF is a violation of my 1A right. It is an unconscionable restriction of medical care that should be available based on my religious beliefs.

Trump doesn’t care what happens with IVF or reproductive care. He continues to seek and get support of the Christian fascists, and they got the judges they wanted. They will continue to impose their religious beliefs on everyone else through judicial fiat.

And the Burgess Shale fauna did rise from lightless depths and seek the dwelling places of Kenshereem and Bekaleth to bring the gifts of Dagon to the dwellers
who grew hideous of aspect. And God spake unto David and commanded him to raise an army of Israel. The people of Israel rejoiced and many spears were cast by the sons of Benjamin and Caleb to expel the fauna back. Dagon spread many unclean offerings to the unfaithful, who became as fishmen themselves and turned away from God with bulging eyes and wet skin, but David heeded their croaking not and truly they received their reward.

1 in 10 women have sought fertility services according to Pew. But just 2% of those who sought fertility services actually went through with IVF (mostly because it’s expensive as heck and most insurers don’t cover it particularly well - or at all).

Also, 1-2% of all births nationwide are result of IVF services.

Families seeking fertility treatment will now face higher costs, loss of providers in states where the GOP are pushing ahead with life at conception laws, and it will actually drive fertility rates down, especially in the South.

I don’t think Trump cares about abortion or any social policy. He saw the social conservative/Christian Nationalist movement as something he could exploit for his own gain - so he did. Yeah, I’m trying to figure out why anyone would take Trump at his word for any dang thing. He’s a proven liar. The only facts he has told are his first, middle and last name. Everything else he claims is a lie.

Alabama Supreme Court justices effectively banning IVF is the logical conclusion of equating fetuses with babies. I assume SCOTUS, with its rightwing majority, will support Alabama’s decision if it’s appealed.

As far as I am concerned it isn’t, except that now they have both testified under oath that the relationship didn’t begin until after Wade was hired as a special councel, and if the judge determines they perjured themselves I don’t see how the case doesn’t get handed to someone else.

to split a hair:
lots of people have sex who arent in a ‘relationship’

and then later some are
others never are

(of course depends on how the questions under oath were asked)

Grr. I just got in from my little driveway. On Wednesday our trash was collected and one bag broke open across the way from me. Today I went out to check my little driveway and someone had tossed the junk onto my grass. I put it into a large trash bag and into my can. Hopefully no one else dumps trash onto my grass.

With regards to the ‘bama SC insane declaration that frozen embryos are people, maybe it is time for people to start ignoring the court and it’s rulings. Once the justice system loses its credibility and starts to make rulings based on religiously motivated rationales, sane people may declare that the court does not speak for them. Is that good for society as a whole? Hell, no, but neither is being forced into one dictated by religious extremists.

Doctors would need to risk arrest. They have a lot invested in their doctorhood. The country’s trend is that more doctors are becoming employees of large corporations, and fewer are independent business people.

I don’t suggest that there isn’t risk involved. Black people risked arrest when they sat at the front of the bus or at the Woolworth’s lunch counter, or tried to go to school, for god’s sake! Look where civil disobedience got them. All I know is that if I were selected for a jury to judge a doctor for disobeying such a ruling, I’d vote not guilty all day long.

People that lie under oath in Republican fishing expeditions should be getting medals for civic service, not dragged through the mud in scandals.

Sad news from Lubbock. Isiac (spelled thusly), a semi-feral tomcat who had been living around the guardshack at an industrial plant SINCE 1998, was found dead this week. There was no obvious cause other than extreme old age. He had reportedly slowed a lot but was still mobile and able to catch birds and rodents right to the end. The receptionist at the plant noticed him as a kitten, started feeding him, and turned the job over to the security director when she retired in 2014. They buried him in a corner of the flowerbed outside the office and reportedly ordered a nice marker.

A pox on both houses:

NPR did a story about a Gaza blogger who fled south with his family after the Hamas attack on Israel. When the Israeli special forces rescued the two men recently, the Israeli Air Force did a massive bombing campaign as a “distraction” and, in the process, killed his mother, father, brother, and twin nieces. He happened to be sleeping somewhere else that night.

I’m pretty sure some jabroni can’t just walk in off the street to Verizon or T-Mobile and say, “Hey, buddy - I need ya to pull up the records for (phone number) and print those off for me. Capiche?”

I dunno, it has a Hunter’s laptop vibe to it.
