British Branch of the ‘Anti-Jihad’ Movement in Full Meltdown

Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller are oddly silent
World • Views: 42,537

The two most visible “anti-jihad” bloggers in the United States are probably Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller. They both appear frequently on Fox News as “experts” on Islam; Geller writes for Andrew Breitbart’s Big Government, Newsmax, and World Net Daily, and they’ve recently been touring the country showing their “Ground Zero Mega Mosque” horror film. Their anti-Muslim group “Stop the Islamization of America” was recently listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, for obvious reasons.

Spencer and Geller are also notorious for their enthusiastic support of Britain’s far right English Defence League, well known for their riots, fascist roots, and thuggish intimidation of British minorities.

Two examples: Geller gushed about the EDL here:

How I wish I could be there to stand with the English Defense League.

And Robert Spencer has called for “all free people” to support the EDL:

The EDL deserves the support of all free people.

So I have to wonder how Spencer and Geller will react to the latest news about their British allies.

First, the news that one of the EDL’s leaders, John “Snowy” Shaw, has suddenly realized that he hates Jews as much as Muslims, and is raving about the infamous antisemitic forgery “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion:” HOPE not hate blog: Infidel leader praises the Protocols.

With “the Protocols” Shaw has immersed himself in one of the most vile and dangerous forgeries of all time.

According to Shaw, the book has already begun to make things “click” in his head, and he advises “all true British patriots take the time to read this”.

Despite the book being discovered as a forgery, it has long been viewed as definitive proof of a Jewish conspiracy by Nazis and antisemites ever since. Adolf Hitler even had put it in the school curriculum in Nazi Germany. More recently, it was even among a selection of books that the BNP recommended for “patriots” during the 1980’s because they insisted it was still of historical interest.

The book is a crude record of the supposed minutes of a meeting of the Jewish community in the late 19th Century where plans for their world domination are discussed.

The book first surfaced in Russia in the early 1900’s and was used as a justification by antisemites to carry out pogroms against the Jewish community. It’s popularity spread as far as notorious Jew-Hater Henry Ford of Ford Motor car fame, who had a further 500,000 printed for distribution in the United States.

Having opened the book, Shaw is convinced by its authenticity. He is now adamant that both Jews and Muslims are conspiring together and that he “must stop them destroying our country”.

And second: hardline activist and leader of the EDL’s “Jewish Division,” Roberta Moore (a sort of British version of Pamela Geller), is very publicly bailing out of the group because of “the Nazis within:” EDL Jewish division leader Roberta Moore quits.

The hardline activist at the forefront of the “Jewish Division” of the extreme right-wing English Defence League has announced that she does not wish to be a part of it any longer because of Nazi elements within it. …

Although she described the EDL as “doing a fantastic job” she said the party had been hijacked by elements who wanted to use it “for their own Nazi purposes”.

Ms Moore said she still supported the EDL leaders and “all the genuine patriots out there who struggle to get their voices heard” but added that she no longer wished to be a part of it. “I sincerely hope that the leaders will get the strength to squash the Nazis within,” she said.

Mark Gardner, from the Community Security Trust, said: “This latest development shows, yet again, why Jews should not be involved in such circles.”

I cut ties long ago with people like Spencer and Geller precisely because they were willing (eager, in fact) to make alliances with the farthest of the far right, up to and including people with neo-Nazi connections — people like the English Defence League.

There’s no comment so far from either Robert Spencer or Pamela Geller on these developments.

Anybody who didn't see this one coming a mile away must have been blind. I mean, look back at the history of British anti-semitism. Read the comments at the Guardian website. There's no English equivalent to the Israel-loving Right in this country -- like, Bachmann actually did spend a summer on a kibbutz. But the English far-right was never going to be the Friend of Jews, no matter how deluded this poor Roberta Moore may have been.

Oswald Mosley would be proud!

Not that the Guardian exemplifies the Right! I'm just talking in general terms about a nasty undercurrent in Britain (speaking as an Anglophile, mind you).

As far as Pam goes, it's the ape in the tuxedo thing.

The ape songs, dances and even uses a knife and fork. In the end the only one who believes the tuxedo is camouflage is the ape.

She can spin it any way she likes, but when all said and done, no one will by her justification for supporting the EDL but herself.

Here's her resignation: The world is our oyster

Dear all, I have been made a great offer yesterday and therefore I am stepping down from the Jewish Division in order to take up that offer, which will take most of my time. While we are aware that the EDL is doing a fantastic job, but there are elements within that have hijacked the EDL for their own Nazi purposes.

I do not wish to be part of it any longer, but I will however help their genuine cause in whatever they need now that my arena has increased to an international level.

I do wish the EDL the best of luck in this fight, as they surely need it. And I sincerely hope that the leaders will get the strength to squash the Nazis within, for they will destroy this movement if allowed to remain, and thus lose the fight against the Islamization of their countries.

Meanwhile, I shall carry with me the voices of all those warriors who are genuinely fighting for justice and human rights around the world. My support remains with the EDL leaders and all the genuine patriots out there who struggle to get their voices heard, and I shall make their voices a deafening scream in the International arena.

I took a vacation to Canada earlier this year to visit family. While there, I took a walk around my neighborhood. During that walk, I passed by a man clearly singing in Arabic. He seemed to be in a good mood. No one so much as gave the man a second glance.

I couldn't help but wonder if this same situation played out in the Southern U.S. where I now live how different the reaction would have been. There's practically no middle eastern population down here, it's primarily white, black, Latino and Asian. I'm sure that man would have some haters on him in no time.

There are Floridians who call the panhandle "South Georgia". Usually, I've found, it's the types who do not call Florida "the south".

I am proud of my country for being so diverse and multicultural. That's how a strong society should be.

Murfreesboro, Tennessee has a big Muslim population. Over the last few years, as Islamophobia has risen, mosques there have been the target of racist attacks, arson and vandalism. The Muslims have had that mosque for decades with no incidents.

I don't know where you are, but there are plenty middle-easterners here. The most visible are the restaurant owners; we have probably as many middle-eastern restaurants here in town as we do seafood restaurants, all owned by folks from one middle-eastern country or another.

And here's a story from a neighboring town not known for being particularly tolerant:

A Muslim man owns a restaurant in that town, has for years. Right after 9/11, he was interviewed by the newspaper and admitted being nervous about how he and his family would fare. He was most appreciative to find, the day after 9/11, his regular customers lined up at the door, ready to come in and give him their business. They all showed up on the same day, wanting to show him he had nothing to fear as re: their reaction to him and his family.

So - there's a gen-u-wine southern US story for you.

When are people going to learn that haters are always going to hate? They never stop hating, they just find different groups of people to hate when other groups of people become politically incorrect to hate. But the hate never goes away and if they get comfortable enough they will be back to expressing their hatred for you. If they don't consider you to be "one of them" they will never, ever accept you or like you. Pam Geller apparently thought that hatred of Muslims would protect her from hatred of Jews. She teamed up with bullies and thought the bullies wouldn't bully her anymore. I'd point and laugh at her if I could, if it wasn't so damn sad. Trying to gauge how the "right" (ugh) in this country feels right now... but I'm realizing that several of the so called "right" blogs/news-sites are in a kind of puffery mode that really, really makes it hard to gauge what people think.

WND can't get much lower on the scale of credibility, and all the Bratfart empires of blog outlets are no different than the Salem Communications empire, which aren't any different than the Murdoch (much more massive) empire of outlets. They are all echo chambers for each other.

Meanwhile, I'm discovering that Wells Fargo is trying to gin me out of some money (I wanted to close a safe deposit box I had at one branch but they wouldn't let me, if I wanted the balance of the rent back, unless I talk to some VP of something or other...), the price of my food selections are still going up, Trader Joe's continues to degrade the quality of their packaging (in this case on bottles) to save a penny here or there, etc. etc. etc.

The real issue in our society today is inflation... or perhaps more accurately price inflation, where "price" doesn't mean a nominal price of an item but the real cost/quality. Service being one such product that seems to be increasingly scarce.

The obsession with Weiner's wiener was pretty good evidence that people didn't want to discuss real problems but were looking to escape reality.

Just today the IEA mentioned that they may have to continue the release program of oil from strategic reserves. That ought to raise alarm bells.... but it gets nary a whiff of attention.

And so on.

Recent Pew survey shows that most people in this country don't pay attention to "politics", by which they mean anything important that has to be settled in the public realm (through governance of some sort.)

Someday we'll realize we can't escape reality.

One needs a vendor license to give away food? Sounds like more of a "public image" law. Being so close to Disney, we can't have any homeless people in view.

Dunno if it's been mentioned yet, but Pam has issued a statement. Money quotes:

the EDL was aware of neo-Nazi attempts at infiltration, and had a policy of expelling anyone who expressed any kind of antisemitic or neofascist sentiments

However, it has become increasingly clear that the EDL has morphed and diverged from its original course. They now have clearly been infiltrated by the worst kind of influences, something that had successfully staved off for years, and they're no longer staving it off.

the neo-fascists that had infiltrated the administration of the group

But whatvever the case may be, the EDL has done a Charles Johnson.

Spencer wholeheartedly agrees.
