LYRICS:
this is it
now you know
this is where the little moments go
this is it
now you know

this is nice
getting deep
slightly dirtier than airplane sleep
this is nice

this is this
yes and?
the f—- is that so hard to understand?
understand

not a star
that’s way too far
but ill be blowing kisses from above, the bar
i don’t know, maybe i do

good is good
fame is more
the world we live is what we asked for

f—-ing boom
give me room
heavy as a feather on the moon
I try for real
I try for true
I mean what do you want me to do?

thoughts like this they come to me
I like these thoughts I let them be
if we’re doing honesty
I know this isn’t only me

can you help?
I can help
to impress myself

never wrong
not always right
its alright

alright (repeated)

yeah im just trying to say

b-tch
im still the same
I will never change
that is why Im tight

swim up the stream
cuz I have different dreams
that is why Im tight

you think im weird
but im still f—-ing here
that is why Im tight

right now at least
cuz sometimes i hate me
but right now it’s alright

right now it’s alright

peacefully
killing spree
working for my single drop of the sea
working for, my little piece, of free

a little dark
white as fuck
I just reflect the sun, you’re not star struck
you can look, its alright

love is big and life is small
annoying motherf—-ers hear my call

I do my part
I fight for s—t
equal rights for male angler fish
I don’t know, maybe I do

thoughts like this they come to me
I like these thoughts I let them be
if we’re doing honesty
I know this isn’t only me

can you help?
I can help
to impress myself

never wrong
not always right
its alright

alright (repeated)

yeah im just trying to say

b-tch
here is a taste
recording my own face
that is why Im tight

I give a f—-
and dont give a f—-
that is why Im tight

above the hope
and below the hype
that is why Im tight

right now at least
cuz sometimes i hate me
but right now it’s alright

right now it’s alright

Well it’s all in the supertitles, innit?

An absolute modern dance hootenanny.

It’s almost like Johnson is working for the Barnes campaign, he is giving them so much material for attack ads.

How the hell do you “misuse” Social Security? You pay in during your working life, you apply when you’re eligible, the government gives you your old age insurance monthly. Does Sen. Johnson want to tell you how you must spend your money?

Hah!

The Louis Cole song was definitely a good follow-on to last thread’s discussion.

I was amused by the headers which provided fake titles of the supposed dance moves. Particularly in a couple of places when actual dance moves were being done under a fake names.

I assume that they were satirizing the Jazz vocabulary of terminology and moves. But I suspect that all professions have a shared vocabulary and terminology, including, I am told, pornography.

re: #140 EPR-radar

There’s always an outlier. June 7, Mendocino CA, gas price well over $9 per gallon.

abc30.com

It’s probably a one gas station in town monopoly situation, with the owner perhaps also being a wingnut well paid under the table by Republican ratfuckers to make headlines this way.

The station in question is the only one in town and it is a fair distance in any direction to another station. Also, there is no convenience store to subsidize the gas. People swear a lot about the prices, but they must cave in and buy gas there or it wouldn’t be in business.

Texas Gas Prices
The price decline has stalled briefly, with very little change from yesterday, 3.432 today, down from 3.436.
There is a new leader in the lowest priced county contest, though. Cameron County, in the extreme southern tip of the step, is down to 3.122.

I suppose it’s possible the Russian corvette is being used to transport the Army SAM system someplace, but having seen how Russia is trying to prosecute this war, probably not.

I imagine there are a whole lot of Ukrainians trying to figure out where this ship is so they can sink it.

Plus, would a ground-launched SAM even work correctly on a ship? I never designed weapons, but I would think that naval SAMs would have to include pitch and roll of the deck, whereas Army SAMs don’t (making them cheaper to build).

I did indeed like the video.

On the appreciation/despising thing. You raise an interesting question.

I guess that I have never seen any other music video seem to so explicitly focus in that way on the choreography. The other music I remember even referring to choreography uses it for other purposes. Such as “All that Jazz”.

At a very amateur level, I have worked with a few choreographers. The best set standards as high as they could, given the group they were working with, and then worked very hard to enforce those standards. It was not always fun, but it did result in a good production.

On the other hand, I could certainly be wrong here.

What is your take on it?

Just found out that I have until October 1st to get everything moved to the new server. So I’m gonna have to crack down, put the nose to the grindstone, and burn the midnight oil.

Biggest immediate issue - the PEAR database abstraction library I’ve been using for years to do pretty much everything may not work with the latest version of PHP/MySQL. And MySQL is now MariaDB, supposedly compatible. I have a lot to investigate.

MariaDB is not the successor to MySQL. Oracle bought MySQL, and MariaDB is the fork from that. (Why the fork? Because Oracle. I don’t need to explain further.)

Functionally, all is the same, and you manage MariaDB just as you would MySQL, with the same command-line client.

I have a very broad and liberal view on what is “art”.

And that, pretty much, is it. Whether it is music or theater or dance on the live action side or sculpture, painting, or pottery on the sedentary side, I’m there to enjoy the experience.

I love it all. It’s creativity. It’s inspiration. It’s the result of what humanity can, ultimately, create.

And it is just majestic.

Semi-bummer news from the NY-12 D primary: longtime Congressional fixture Jerry Nadler beat out another longtime Congressional fixture Carolyn Maloney for the D nom in a newly redrawn district. It’s really too bad that they couldn’t find room for two senior Dems (solid progressives both), but them’s the breaks…

And worse because New York lost a House seat at the 2020 census - by coming up just 87 people short in the final count.

That’s what happened to eighty percent of my wife’s pension fund from Digital Equipment Corporation after DEC was sold to Compaq and they were bought by HP. Somewhere along the line a depositor bank mixing its money with its investment side somehow managed to evaporate over $200,000 of her money.

On the Season Two finale of “Only Murders in the Building,” I’m not a big murder mystery fan, but my, the reveal of the murder in the middle of the episode was very good. I was guessing until the murderer in the story was actually caught by a small clue revealed much earlier in the series.

The last part of the episode was the set-up for next season.

Tom Harkin only left office in 2015.

Obama carried Iowa in 2008.

What happened?

I can think of three things:
1) increased radicalization of Christians, who were convinced that Democrats are going to get rid of Je$u$;
2) increasing numbers of Mexicans being employed in the food packing plants;
3) the educated ones (Iowa historical has had very high literacy rates and has many colleges) moved to the big cities on the coasts for jobs.

Iowa was rather progressive from it’s founding as a state.

Most of the turn towards the hard right I ascribe to religion. Like with many of these middle-of-the-continent states.

Russian Claims On Killing Of Dugin’s Daughter Prompt Skepticism, Speculation About Kremlin Infighting

(more at the link)

Russia’s speed at “solving” the car-bomb assassination of the daughter of prominent Russian far-right ideologue Aleksandr Dugin, who has played a prominent role in justifying and drumming up support for President Vladimir Putin’s geopolitical ambitions, has attracted considerable skepticism.

Just two days after the killing, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) claimed that an agent of Ukraine’s secret service had planted a bomb under the car of Darya Dugina, Dugin’s 29-year-old daughter, at a festival outside Moscow on August 20, killing her as she drove home. Dugina herself was a rising star in Russia’s far-right community and a familiar face on right-wing media and at far-right events.

The FSB, however, does not have a reputation for solving political killings quickly or telling the truth.

The murders and attempted murders of prominent Kremlin opponents have remained unsolved or only partially resolved even after decades. No investigation was even opened into the near-fatal poisoning of opposition politician Aleksei Navalny in August 2020.

But Dugina’s case was supposedly cracked in less than 36 hours.

The FSB claims Natalya Vovk, a 42-year-old Ukrainian, entered Russia by car with her 12-year-old daughter; rented an apartment in the same Moscow building where Dugina lived; tracked Dugina for weeks; planted the bomb during the festival; and later that night fled to Estonia in the same car she brought to Russia, changing the license plates along the way.

Moscow further alleges that Vovk is a member of the Azov Battalion, a right-wing group the Russian authorities claim is neo-Nazi and banned as “extremist.”

Whoa… just looked at my local grocery store weekly flyer and coupon deals for the week… and seeing “sale” prices have jumped to higher than the regular prices I have been paying the past month or so, for items I regularly buy.

Other items, such as in the bakery, are now being packaged with half the count of items they did just last week. Then there is a “sale” price that is less than the price last week… until you double it to get the same count and one realizes the price has gone up by 25%.

This is crazy inflation.

This will affect the election.

I know may Democrats are hoping that anger over abortion will be enough this fall to hold onto the majority in Congress, but with inflation that I am now seeing I doubt it will be enough.

Voters will respond to the rapidly increasing prices.

Carl Paladino, The Donald Trump Of Western New York, Loses GOP Primary For Congress

Paladino has praised Hitler and hoped for Obama to die of mad cow disease.

Carl Paladino, the GOP candidate who recently called for Attorney General Merrick Garland to be executed, has lost his primary for Congress.

New York state Republican Party Chair Nick Langworthy, a former Paladino ally, won his party’s nomination in the conservative 23rd Congressional District.

Langworthy, 41, pitched himself as a supporter of the policies of former President Donald Trump — but didn’t have the baggage and drama of Paladino and his “three-ring circus.”

“Carl’s candidacy is a big reason why I decided to do this,” Langworthy told The New York Times, calling Mr. Paladino “a huge detriment” to other Republicans running in the state, including Rep. Lee Zeldin for governor. “We’ve got the best shot to win in 20 years, and the three-ring circus that he brings to the table, with the way that he handles things and himself, will basically be held against every candidate in the state.”

We’ll have to see. The abortion ban was beat back both in Kansas, and just now in Nebraska. (I haven’t noticed significant price rises in food here, but that might be only me.)

As more horrors come out from Republican cruelty, that will keep the abortion issue in the news through the election and beyond.

There are a lot of one-issue voters on the Democratic side as well. “Do I vote GOP or stay home because of a 35¢ rise in the price of bread, or do I want my wife and daughters to be rendered in the Christo-fascist meat grinder?”

The BLS report from a couple of weeks ago noted the increase in food and housing prices:

bls.gov

The food index increased 10.9 percent over the last year, the largest 12-month increase since the period ending May 1979.

Since Carter.

And Reagan won in part by exploiting the inflation problems.

re: #82 Anymouse 🌹🏡😷

35 cents would not be too much for me. But right now I am looking at bakery items increasing by over a dollar in a few months and doubling in price since two years ago.

Fried chicken at the deli jumped from $5 on sale to $9 on sale. That’s a big jump.

In the case of the bakery and the deli the problem is one that the store can’t keep employees, or find them in the first place. I assume the store had to raise wages to lure in new people.

The big battle in Congress, when they return from vacation, will be over COLAs for next year.

Sure, abortion will be on the table for the Dems but the battle over 2023 expenditures will be fierce.

Social Security COLA algorithm is encoded in law, but the federal employees, military, retirees, etc. are all pawns in the game.

For retirees living off of private pensions (union or company) - you better hope equity markets don’t crash.

It is not a secret that the biggest time bomb economically for this country is the pension problem (government or private.)

How a Secretive Billionaire Handed His Fortune to the Architect of the Right-Wing Takeover of the Courts

The lede:

An elderly, ultra-secretive Chicago businessman has given the largest known donation to a political advocacy group in U.S. history — worth $1.6 billion — and the recipient is one of the prime architects of conservatives’ efforts to reshape the American judicial system, including the Supreme Court.

Through a series of opaque transactions over the past two years, Barre Seid, a 90-year-old manufacturing magnate, gave the massive sum to a nonprofit run by Leonard Leo, who co-chairs the conservative legal group the Federalist Society.

The donation was first reported by The New York Times on Monday. The Lever and ProPublica confirmed the information from documents received independently by the news organizations.

In the NY-19 US House special election (conservative upstate New York), that is the first congressional race since Roe v Wade was scrapped. The race was viewed by pollsters and pundits as a Republican gimmie due to inflation (price gouging).

While the Democratic candidate ran with women’s rights as the centrepiece of his campaign, the Republican candidate put inflation front-and-centre.

Inflation lost badly to women’s rights tonight.

For the worst shyteshow in US House elections, you look back to 1854 and 1855. The Democratic Party was being pummelled over the Kansas-Nebraska Act, the Whig Party was disintegrating over slavery but still viable, the Know Nothing (American) Party was running their campaigns on religious hatred against Catholics and racism against Irish and Italian immigrants, the Free Soil Party was still viable, independent anti-Nebraska candidates also won, along with the People’s Party of Indiana (a populist party), the still-organising Republican Party and independent candidates also made gains. All those other parties coalesced as the Opposition Party (opposing slavery expansion in the territories but no other platform planks because none of those parties had anything in common with each other).

The Opposition Party held 100 seats in Congress, making them the largest party caucus, ensuring dysfunction.

That was the only time in US House history a third-party member became Speaker of the House. It took 133 ballots to select Know-Nothing member Nathaniel Banks from Massachusetts as Speaker.

For anyone who tells you more parties in Congress is a good idea, they are full of shyte. This arrangement lead to the absolute dysfunction of Congress so that it was unable to try to head off the Civil War.

That fascinating shyteshow is detailed at Wikipedia.
en.wikipedia.org (with map of the districts and gains, losses, or holds for each party—the Democrats lost half their seats in the US House).

I’d think the bigger issue is the aspect of attack to the aspect of the SAM defense radar. Parking that SAM system on the back means that any attack from the front is blocked until too late. Only an attack from the rear has a chance of being adequately intercepted. Radar is a line of sight thing - it sweeps the air and if you’ve got a big object blocking radar wave path, you get nothing - and the entire superstructure is present.

I’m sure the Ukrainians have duly noted this if/when they decide to go after this ship.

Or they’re making hay out of Clinton’s 33,000 emails - which weren’t classified at all. Only 5 were classified after the fact. And those were returned and there were originals for all on State Dept servers.

GOP Congressional investigations found nothing to charge. Sessions and Barr found nothing as well. It’s all a witch hunt, and merely mentioning the name is enough to get the rabid GOP base to froth.

Here’s a little story about some Qandian Qcumbers and their “Queen”:

She travels Canada in a flag-draped RV with an entourage. She greets supporters in small towns, who eagerly film the encounters on mobile phones. She’s called on her disciples to execute healthcare workers and politicians who support mass vaccination campaigns.

To her more than 60,000 followers online, she’s the newly installed Queen of Canada. But to law enforcement and national security officials, she represents the threat that online conspiracy theorists may be all too capable of inflicting real-world harm.

Romana Didulo, a leader within a fringe Q-Anon-linked movement, has claimed sovereignty over Canada, gaining limited but growing popularity amid an erosion of trust in the country’s democratic and civil institutions.

Last week, Didulo made national headlines after her disciples attempted to make a “citizen’s arrest” of police officers in Peterborough, an Ontario city nearly 300km south-west of Ottawa. The stunt prompted warnings from experts that similar events are likely in the future as online groups become more emboldened to act.

These fucking fascists don’t accept any election where they are on the losing end. They must treat them as a conspiracy that they lost, even though they’d have no problem accepting if they won with the same exact people voting and counting/certifying.

It’s the same way these fucking fascists aren’t questioning any of the down ballot choices in any of the states Biden won the president, but voters went for the GOPers in local races.

If the ballots were to be thrown out because they were fraudulent, all of those choices on those ballots would need to be thrown out, not just for Biden. None of the GOPers would insist on that, because they were fine accepting the wins on the down ticket races.

These people are dangerous fuckers who need to be treated as such.

In NYC metro politics - Nadler beat Maloney handily in race to represent NY12 where two longtime members of Congress duked it out for seat as one of their districts disappeared. Dan Goldman won his race for NY10. Otherwise, it was status quo as the incumbents won across NYC.

Oh, and Trumpist Malliotakis of Staten Island’s NY 11 will be facing off against Max Rose yet again in November. Rose was a former Congressman who lost to Malliotakis, so this is a rematch.

Texas Gas Prices
The price decline has resumed after a near-stall yesterday, with the state-wide average now at 3.422. Perhaps more importantly, HIdalgo County has reclaimed its status as state (and national) low price leader, at 3.109.
This is important because Hidalgo is the 8th most populous county in Texas, with 861,137 residents in 2020.

This is the same crowd who thinks Trump could issue a blanket declassification, and not have a paper trail involved for any of it. Or that you can declassify nuclear secrets (something that you can’t actually do because of their very nature).

None of that makes Trump’s crimes go away. It’s just a distraction.

A reminder: Trump could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and not lose any supporters. There is no evil he can commit that would lose anyone in his base. OTOH, if he actually says/does something honest or decent, he may get booed by his base — for example the few times he ventured to endorse vaccinations, his base was not enthusiastic.

Reemerging into the spotlight after a buyout and a bankruptcy, movie subscription service MoviePass is coming back in a new form—but if you’re hoping for the return of all-you-can-watch movies for $10 a month, it’s not going to happen. The beta for the revamped service launches on Thursday morning, and will provide a tiered, credit-based system for ticket purchases, rather than the ultimately unsustainable “watch all you want” deal the service offered before it shut don in 2019.

Users who sign up for the beta can choose one of three pricing tiers—$10, $20, or $30 per month—in exchange for an as-yet-unannounced number of credits to see movies. While there is no unlimited tier, MoviePass cofounder Stacy Spikes said the company plans to allow unused credit to roll over to future months. There are also plans to let users earn free credits by watching advertisements through the PreShow platform, a facial recognition technology designed to make sure you watch every second of the commercial.

I would never use any product or service that incorporated such technology.

Unpopular opinion: races like this are problematic. Jones is high-profile, sure, but in a gerrymandered district like FL-1, she has approximately 0.0 percent chance of actually flipping the seat, even against a shitstain like Gaetz. (Ask Stonekettle. It’s his district.)

If Democrats had unlimited resources, this would be no big deal - but that’s not the case. Whatever dollars Jones raises online will be dollars that don’t go to the less exciting races in actual swingy districts that will actually decide control of the House. And we desperately need every edge we can get in those winnable races to avoid Speaker McCarthy next year.

“Clearly, what Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was going for was a comparison to Tom Cruise,” the Washington Post reports.

…..

“What are DeSantis and his team getting instead? Comparisons to Michael Dukakis, the Massachusetts governor who made one of the most-mocked campaign photo ops in modern political history while running for president in 1988.”

if this ends up making a difference, it’ll be the biggest self-own this year on style.

it would also be proof the guy isnt presidential material.

A competent lawyer would’ve told Trump not to draw attention to a document confirming he mishandled over 700 pages of classified information. The problem for Trump is that it doesn’t appear he has any of those in his orbit these days.

That assumes that 45py listens to advice at all, regardless of whether the source is competent or not.

This is why I’ve been reluctant to accept a promotion out of my current position. There would be a bit of a raise of involved, but I’d also be out of the union and hence not have the associated protections anymore.

Regretfully, I’ve come to the conclusion that I will have no choice but to do it sooner or later as I have no desire to remain in my current job for the rest of my working life.

I can confirm this opinion about Florida voters and can add that there is a strong feeling of “fuck you we don’t have to suffer any consequences”. Florida residents are highly reliant on tourist $$$ spending and taxes to negate the need for State Income Tax and other taxes that would directly affect the local population.

In short, tourists pay for just about everything here. Florida residents are coddled by a large cushion of geography and climate. “Fuck you” comes easily to those who only need sit back and largely let outsiders pay for their infrastructure and government services.

I went to undergrad, grad school, and law school. Paid off all my loans.

I don’t have a problem with any of this, because I’m not an asshole who thinks that the status quo on student loans is good, given that costs of education are out of control, there’s no way to discharge education debt in bankruptcy, and that we’re supposed to value educated people.

Debt relief would give people more security to buy homes, cars, start businesses, etc., and helps grow economy.

Our educational system is broken, and it has driven costs up far higher than is at all reasonable. We tell people they have to get a degree to get a good job, then we rob them blind for that degree causing them to start adulthood deeply in debt.

Going for Trump level flailing excuses, he must have something big to hide.

if it was unconstitutional, you would have led with that in the first place

I went a community college. I have two degrees. I have no student loan debt.

I’m absolutely fine with debt relief for others.

i bought my car a month before the dealer had a sale
i want the sale price

i just paid off my car loan
new buyers are getting no interest, no payments for the first 6 months.
the bank should pay me back six months and all the interest

A few years ago I found my 2-XL robot (image not mine) in the basement closet. For fun I played the 8 Track tape of Star Wars that I have.

re: #221 ipsos

However, if as a result of Dobbs, this becomes a blue wave year, even safe districts are vulnerable, especially in an off-year election.

Wow. Who the fuck needs 10 houses?

I could, at most, see myself having three: A primary residence, a cottage / lake house and maybe a home I keep overseas for use when I travel, but that’s it.

Now you are talking.
I play this out in my lottery dreams.

This image is mine, and I expect your 2XL looks more like this than the white that it started as. I have a tape for it too somewhere, but expect that it would fall apart if I ever used it.
