Well, his petro-state buddies certainly do.

Which is where the other half of Trump’s problems come in: The court-appointed monitor who’s access to all his financial info and thus would notice if he suddenly “found” half-a-billion in his back pocket to sock in escrow for the duration. And again, is the House of Saud prepared to put that sort of money in Donny’s hand, knowing that they’ll never get it back and with no guarantee that he’ll be in any position in a year’s time to make good on whatever promises he makes to secure it?

That leaves us back where we started, which is that obvious reality that a man who is purely about appearances would not be putting himself in this position if he had any other choice. Which can only lead one to the conclusion that he has exhausted his options and is unlikely to have an 11th hour savior given the present circumstances.

Which means he could theoretically be compromised to hell and back (if he’s not already there) by Election Day.

After that, the next step is editing out bad recessive genes and being free of those diseases forever. GATTICA comes many years after that, requiring knowledge of the genome far beyond what we know today.

historically, a presidential nominee getting a shitton of money for a foreign government would be the sort of thing to take a campaign. Also, in the case of Saudi Arabia, Hungary, and Israel… they’d be risking potential sanctions and otherwise damaging relations with the US. That’s not the sort of bet any of them are going to take.

That’s the other big problem, moving that sort of cash through deniable back channels or shell companies takes time to avoid tripping various alarm bells with federal and state agencies, time that Trump doesn’t have and the courts have made clear they won’t grant him. If any of his foreign “investors” could just cut a check and thus have his ass on loan for half-a-billion dollars, they’d have done so already.

Jared has 2 billion lying around — or at least somewhere. Or is it deposited in a fund that has strict governmental oversight? The Saudis owe Trump a lot for all he did for them. Didn’t MBS want to give Jared a lot more money but the Saudi wealth fund advisors managed to reduce the amount by 80% or so. Certainly another half billion is nothing.

as I saw someone say on Threads… that money Jared got is in an investment fund, and it’s not Jared’s… it belongs to the Saudis. Jared moving that money without their permission is the sort of thing that does not end well for people like Jared.

I don’t think it’s quite sunk in yet: If he had access to easy money, he’d have used it. He spent months claiming he had the money just sitting in a back account accruing interest, yet the moment the courts told him “put up or shut up,” he’s back in front of them begging poverty, that nobody will spot him a loan, and please don’t make him sell his properties to free up the cash to put in escrow. If he suddenly showed up with a check tomorrow, there is no way in hell the state of NY would just shrug and accept it without question.

And even more to the point:

Trump now has one goal - to show to his marks that he is above the woke libruls who want to throw him in jail and take his money.

This then becomes the goal.

Running for President is the program, but running to be emperor is the real goal.

And one can’t become a dictator unless one can show superiority.

But we all know that won’t happen because Trump isn’t man enough to debate. Or is just a chicken.

I mean, since he’s in perfect health, 30 years younger than Joe Biden, has an IQ of 167, and plays 5 dimensional chess in his sleep with Jesus, those are the only reasons Trump wouldn’t debate, right?

I sort of wonder if the scale is part of what is throwing people off, that we’re acting as if the ruling was just yesterday and the argument is over way less money than is on the line. The reality is that the ruling is almost a month old, and in that time Trump’s lawyers have filed a series of motions arguing everything from “This bond should be way lower” to “We can’t make bond without selling stuff that our client will never get back” to today’s “PLEASE DON’T MAKE ME POST A BOND!!!”

Yeah, playing the victim is a big part of shtick, but the bigger part is “I’ve got more money than God and can drop enormous sums of money without breaking a sweat.” Yet he doesn’t and he isn’t. Why would he be doing that if it was as simple as calling Riyadh or Moscow and telling them to cut a check?

The bond is big for an individual.

Yet again, Jared would not have to come up with all the cash.

Jared may only have to come up with say a quarter of it, and some company may take that to offer the full bond, as long as some assets were put on the line from Trump Org.

Unless you believe the Trump Org. is upside down, which AFAIK was not made evident during the trial.

I sort of think that our society has become so used to the idea of the rich and powerful being so far above punishment that it can never happen that when it does we simply can’t accept it. We keep waiting for that 11th hour reprieve that we’d never receive to come, for them to once again slip out of the net and leave us feeling foolish for thinking anything would change. So that even as they’re being marched off to prison or their wealth ripped away, we “know” that they’ll just be back on the street tomorrow or their money returned with apologies.

Most cancers are a disease of aging. Not many 25 year olds getting cancer or a wide range of other diseases.

Telomere issue is easily solved, but doesn’t seem to do much to rejuvenate.

I think that the most viable full body rejuvenation will come from something akin to the yamanaka factors coupled with better engineering.

Or it’ll come from something yet unknown. Progress has been disappointingly slow. Though things like CRISPR and billionaires starting bio labs has potential.

An immortal ruling class wouldn’t be much different than what we have now. Just that the individual would replace the family. And they would still die. Being a ruler is probably more deadly than being a lumberjack.

Not if you rebuild telomeres so they never run out. More cell replication means more errors and more cancer though, so you need to repair more than the telomeres.
I may be wrong, but I expect that in a few hundred years of life everyone would get cancer as errors pile up over time.

As JC1 points out above, this isn’t going to roll back the clock, but built into a person from birth, it might keep people in their prime.

Some discussion downstairs about canine karyotypes and 78 chromosomes. The problem is that a lot of the dog’s chromosomes are single arm and very small.

Canine chromosomes. Male and female

The arrows point to the XX and XY chromosomes. But if care is not taken in rupturing the cells, lots of the chromosomes could be lost. Or human chromosomes for comparison could be broken.

So staining is critical but hard to do with canine chromosomes. Using FISH and other immuno-techniques helps. So probably just easier to break into pieces and look for SNPs.

But there are a lot of syntenic regions between dogs and humans (ie regions where the gene order is the same between the species). So, if care is not taken, a canine SNP may look like a human SNP. And thus the confusion.

Best thing to do is sequence something like ribosomal RNA first. Relatively easy to do and can allow rapid bar coding of species

It’s how I would do it. Especially since it might be eally easy to contaminate home collected smaples with human or feline DNAs.

GOP 2.0?

Is Trump to become the cudgel with which compassionate conservatives reinvent the Republican party?

There are probably a lot of memes on this.

But so many non-maggat goppers keep hoping that the deceased party will suddenly come back to life and be exactly like they want to remember how it was. (blech!) Sort of like being in the first stage of mourning, denial.

Of course, I never saw any compassion in most of them.

Trump will never, ever debate Dark Brandon. There is zero upside in it.

He will, however test the limits of making threats on the life of a sitting president. He could be the first presidential candidate to give his concession speech from behind bars.

He’ll do as he’s done in the past: As soon as the debates are agreed to in principle, he’ll demand veto authority over the venue, the timing, the rules, etc. And the first time he’s told “No,” he’ll pull out while screaming that the whole thing is “rigged” against him.

Something like this might be useful. Just quickly rebuilds telomeres then disappears, so telomeres begin degrading again. In vitro it allowed another 40 replications from one treatment.

I think we will have immune-modulators controlling cancer in the near future. Most cancers evade the immune system, so re-invigorating the immune system will help.

I know we’re all excited about the prospect, but as I said earlier, in all likelihood, he gets a stay from the appeals court. Given that there’s a financial monitor in place, and his money is already so tied up that he can’t even give it away to secure a bond, the risk to the State of granting a stay is low, and it preserves the status quo.

To be blunt, NY isn’t going to accept a check. They’re going to want a wire. And the thing about sending a wire is that it goes through sanctions screening first. Yeah, you can try to hide the source of funds, but it’s not as easy as it used to be.

That said, based on my personal experience, a half a billion dollar wire is a lot of money to just about everyone, but in the flow of money sloshing around the international financial markets, it’s 0.0X percent of what changes hands every day.

I feel there really needs to be a debate between Biden and Trump. A real debate where the moderators can press a button, and make Trump inaudible.

*snark*

Really, I’m waiting for Dark Brandon or someone else to taunt Trump into accepting a debate.

Not worth it since Trump will have so many preconditions regarding the venue, questions, audience, and moderation that it wouldn’t be a debate. And everything for month before Trump refuses to do it would just be a PR fight over the debate itself and not about policy, Trump behavior, or other items of much greater political importance.

He was already denied a stay from a single judge, so his only hope now is a full panel reverses that decision. And I suspect that their decision will weigh heavily upon whether or not they believe the appeal has any chance of succeeding. If they feel he’s only delaying the inevitable, then they’ve no reason to grant him a stay.

SCOTUS told Navarro to pack sand (and your bags for the hoosgow), so there’s that.
