I did a tour of Europe with Al Jarreau on a bus that had been rode hard and put away wet, and one night in the middle of the night I woke up in the bunk, stretched, and touched an exposed electrical wire I didn’t know was there. Oh man, was I ever mad.

“If anything happens, it’s not suicide,” said Boeing whistleblower before he was found dead in truck

He was due to give s deposition against Boeing on the day he was found dead. This is starting to smell.

Great song! Great concept too! But that set does seem a bit large for a bus.

Had a dental x-ray in a van parked in a lot in west Houston this morning, unfortunately the sound track was Christian radio instead of Lawrence.

While I doubt a conspiracy, what I don’t doubt for a second is that Boeing is sitting on documentation that shows they either knew these plugs were unsafe or that their inspectors were signing off on shoddy work just to make quotas. Either one would be a MASSIVE lawsuit in itself as well as the FAA up their asses while the entire fleet was inspected bolt-by-bolt at Boeing’s expense.

Boeing overwrote security footage related to the Alaska Airlines door plug blowout, investigators say

Boeing says it cannot find the physical records of who installed the door and signed of on it. And all the security tapes have been overwritten.. So apparently there is no documentation of any kind.

The European Parliament approved far-reaching EU regulations governing AI, with the goal of facilitating innovation while protecting citizens from the risks associated with the fast-developing technology. The so-called AI Act will impose stricter requirements on riskier systems, with bans on the use of AI for predictive policing; most real-time facial recognition in public places; and biometric systems used to infer race, religion, or sexual orientation. The text is slated for endorsement by EU states next month, with publication in the EU’s Official Journal expected as early as May.

Unfortunately, I doubt FAA rules and regs would allow the punishments I’d like to impose:

1. Fine Boeing for failure to produce the requested documentation for the afflicted aircraft, doubling it if they cannot prove that the person(s) responsible for record-keeping have been disciplined for the failure.

2. Fine Boeing again for “taping over” the security footage as though they’re a third-rate 7-11 and not a major defense contractor.

3. Require every aircraft of the type involved immediately grounded and inspected from stem to stern for faults at Boeing’s expense. Any aircraft found with faults that the company cannot conclusively prove are due to operator error/negligence must also be fixed at company’s expense and all relevant documentation related to the faulty equipment submitted for review. The aircraft will remain grounded until all repairs have been completed and certified, and Boeing will be fined for said faults and any “missing” paperwork.

4. If 10 or more aircraft are found to have entered service with faults that cannot be traced to operator error/negligence, the entire type will lose certification and will be deemed unfit for service until Boeing can prove to the FAA’s satisfaction that the type is safe for service and whatever manufacturing issues are causing this failure rate are resolved.

Suvi Verho, lead scrub nurse at the U.K.’s Cromwell Hospital in London, recently assisted in a spinal surgery while wearing Apple’s Vision Pro mixed reality headset. Equipped with software from eXeX, vital information was superimposed on the headset’s virtual screens, allowing Verho to monitor the surgery and determine which tools to give to the surgeon. Apple said its visionOS has been incorporated into several other medical apps, including Stryker’s myMako, which helps surgeons prepare for joint replacement procedures, and Siemens Healthineers’ Cinematic Reality, which provides interactive holograms of the human body for medical student training.

I’m not sure we want to find out what Biden would do for a Klondike bar.

Klondike bars only made it down to Texas when I was off to college in CA - mid 70s. What I loved were the original Eskimo Pies. Same no stick Ice Cream bar. Could only get them from the Ice Cream Truck as those in the store had sticks. They are now called Edy’s Pies.

But Klondike bars were made in Youngstown OH and Philadelphia PA, starting on 1922. So you can bet that a boy growing up in Scranton got Klondike bars long before they were distributed nationwide. I imagine that young boy did some amazing things for a Klondike bar, things I never got the chance to do because they were not in Texas.

37% of Boeing business is in the form of US government contracts, with another 3% going to foreign governments (which would require US government approval)

So they are already to a great extent just a privatized arm of the DoD.

Macron is doing the heavy lifting with keeping the pressure on Putin while the US takes a back seat thanks in large part to one of our presidential candidates being a Russian asset and his entire party being complicit in helping Russia.

Three more will do it I think. McCarthy’s replacement will be GOP as will Buck’s, so we’re stuck with Mikey. I’m sure he’s looking forward to having to give up the gavel in January so he can go back to being a quiet back-bencher who just collects a paycheck and uses his position to increase his personal wealth.

3- stage ballistic missile with a history per Wiki.

The missile’s flight test programme was problematic. Until 2009, there were 6 failures in 13 flight tests and one failure during ground test, blamed mostly on substandard components. This led to the missile’s chief designer, Yury Solomonov resigning from his post in July 2009.[citation needed] Aleksandr Sukhodolskiy was appointed as the new general designer of sea-based ballistic missiles at the Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology; Solomonov however retained his post of general designer of land-based missiles.[24]

re: #23 Targetpractice

Something like this would also have the airlines who are losing money due to their planes being grounded suing Boeing into non-existence as well.

The airlines being mass grounded is also why I expect this will not happen. Too many people in authority willing to trade off the possibility of additional lives being lost against companies losing money and some inconvenience being caused.

Fun story.

Grace Community Church is in Sun Valley and I grew up down the street. When I was in my teens, a group of friends and I used to show up in their parking lots on our bikes and do annoying teenager stuff like blast Motley Crue, play basketball, and ride our bikes through the halls. Invariably, some church member would arrive and start trying to preach to us, which we’d mock, and while we thought it was fun, they clearly didn’t. We were punks and I’m sure they hated us, but it is what it is.

However, instead of telling us to leave, one day they grabbed my friend Freddie and dragged him inside one of their office buildings. In solidarity, I insisted I join him while my brother went for help. Suddenly, their “deacon” showed up and revealed that he was an LAPD cop (I later saw him pictured in a Darryl Gates book as a high ranking captain, if that tells you something)

This cop informed us that he had witnesses (including one of the guys who nabbed Fred) that would testify that we had broken into the rooms and stole things. My dad showed up a few minutes later (again, we lived just down the street and you could walk there in 5 minutes) and demanded to know who these alleged witnesses were and what we stole and when. The guy who had nabbed my friend walked by the office and my dad asked him if he saw anything. I look back at Cop Deacon and he quickly shook his head at the guy. I caught it. Then they guy says “oh, I can’t talk right now and runs away.” My dad challenges the whole thing as bullshit.

Realizing his whole production was crumbling as my dad was pointing out that I came back voluntarily and how they couldn’t even point to a single thing we’d stolen or any witness and that they were just mad at us for riding bikes and being annoying, the Cop Deacon said we’d only be welcome back if we converted to Christianity and went to services.

This is my experience with this piece of shit church. And cops, for that matter. It’s no wonder I dislike both. They are fascists who think nothing of abusing power. This doesn’t surprise me in the least.

Anyone from PA know what’s going on with this?

FAIRLESS HILLS, Pa. (AP) — Authorities have issued a shelter-in-place order following the shooting of multiple people in a suburban Philadelphia township.

Middletown Township police said Saturday morning that there were “confirmed shootings” in neighboring Falls Township that resulted in “several gunshot victims.”

Police said it wasn’t known yet if the shootings were “targeted or random.”

U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, a Republican who represents Bucks County, said in social media posts that there had been “a carjacking and a shooting in two sections of Falls Township.”

He said he was “in touch with law enforcement officials as they pursue the suspect.”

Bucks County issued a shelter-in-place order around 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Police said Oxford Valley Mall and Sesame Place had been told to close until further notice. The area’s Target store and other businesses had chosen to close as well.

The county’s scheduled St. Patrick’s Day parade was canceled following the shelter-in-place order.as well. The county’s scheduled St. Patrick’s Day parade was canceled.

Further details about the shootings and suspect or suspects weren’t immediately released.

Memories of when Isaly’s in Western PA sold the REAL Klondike bars and they were so good. Then Michael Milken had one of his pals do a hostile takeover of the company and overload it with debt. Isaly’s assets were scooped up by other companies.

Just another victim of that fucking parasite Millken.

They made wonderful ice cream with flavors nobody else had such as chocolate marshmallow ice cream. Damn I loved that when I was a kid!

Oh, we all called bullshit on that op-ed the day it came out. It was hilarious at the time, before 1/6, before we knew just how far he was willing to go to stay President.

Memories of actor Anthony Eisley doing commercials for them, “Hey! Me, Anthony Eisley LOVES Isaly’s!”

A visit to Isaly’s was an upscale treat, and only they had the “conical” 10 cent cone. At one point we lived a couple blocks from the main plant in Oakland. You have the Klondike enshittification right. They used to be thick cream, the ones I still buy are watery milk.

re: #103 BeachDem

Also —minor point:

By the 1970s, stewardess had generally been replaced by the gender-neutral alternative flight attendant. Also, during the 1980s and 1990s, more males were allowed to apply as flight attendants, helping to create more usage of this term.

PanAm had Stewards, Stewardesses, and a Purser on it’s International Flights, much like an Oceanliner would have.
